Note the final listed attack I received was the standard attack when the queue ran out. Also notice the damage listed is MOST CERTAINLY WRONG because the PSG I have does not have one single stat higher than my armor so it could not possibly stop more damage......like we keep saying the damage reported in the Combat Log is wrong on ScatterShot1/2.


And on that last attack, yes with the PSG and armor I was only receiving single digit damage as the Combat Log reports correctly for the standard attack

This shows a varying number of hits from ScatterShot2, which I don't believe as I don't ever see it hit more than 3 pieces of armor. At this point I have to assume the duplicates are wrong.....

Wow....you need to really think about what you are saying here.....that is NOT how the Combat Log works....


ScatterShot damage is reported wrong thus the 1 damage. All attacks and all defenses get listed seperately (NOT seperate hits).... With your logic the following Combat Log of my testing would mean ScatterShot2 "hits" me 7 times.....yeah right....


Also note I think the log duplicates some defense lines when writing to the file or server sync issues....

Aha, I see what you are saying. You are working off the assumption that the initial report of 1 damage is flat out wrong. The log should say something like "scatter shot hits you for 100 damage, you prevent 20, you prevent 20, you prevent 20", and the 1 is a strange system glitch. In other words, scattershot is still counted as a single hit.


However, I am going off the assumption that the initial report of 1 damage is correct, and that there is a seperate section of "invisible" hits which toggle the armor protection. (The back end being that the 1 point of damage is necessary for game mechanics, but the real damage is dealt through ansecondary piece of code, so each block can be identical, and they can easily change the probabilities of pools being hit to 33/33/33). So, for example, one scatter shot 2 might cause 100 health damage, 100 action damage, and *101* mind damage (the 1 point from the inital hit). I never paid enough attention to the numbers floating above the target's head to confirm or deny that they are divisible by 3 (removing all forms of armor, resistance, damage mitigation, and PvP damage reductionfirst, of course, to get clean numbers).


One question your argument made me think of is why the 1 point of damage is not prevented by armor. Do we know if damage prevented is rounded to the nearest whole number, or always rounded down (or up)? Maybe they are not rounded at all andthere partial hit points, the numbers are just rounded in the logs? I have no idea how to test this though, except find a buggedfencer weaponwhich has max=min damage to play with...

TA, just a thought. If your PSG is absorbing damage first, is that not implying that the armor you are wearing is then blocking the percentage of the remainder, resulting in a lower amount blocked?

I wouldask "if scatter shot is really combined into a single hit, why would a single piece of armor take effect twice"? It is possible the logs are just bugged, and the initial hit should be for 200 damage not 1. However, I would suggest it is plausible (and probable)that the initial hit and three blocks of damage from scatter hit are actually being treated as separate hits by the system (for the reasons I mentioned previously), the evidence being the existence of the 4 damage prevention statements (even if the amount of damage prevented listed in the logs is suspect).

That first line should be (if it worked properly) the overall amount of damage done by the attack, the lines that follow are the PSG and the Armor blocking the three parts of the initial damage.

Very true and I am not sure the order of the defense, but normally the armor is first then PSG/Food.

ScatterShot2 does THREE hits.......and we know the Combat Log is borked for ScatterShot2 but even if it was working the Chest Plate could take all 3 hits


All I ask is that you go look at your Combat Log when NOT using ScatterShot2 along with the damage taken and see if you change your theory.

So how do you explain the extra "[Combat] 11:27:23 Your DMAX(v4) Composite Armor Chest Plate-DCORP armor prevented 1 points of damage." (the 4th reduction)?



In looking at your log of a regular attack:


[Combat] 11:27:27 Ibac Feania shoots at you and hits for 63 points of damage.
[Combat] 11:27:27 Your Imperial Test Prototype PSG 64% / 30% 2743 shield prevented 41 points of damage.
[Combat] 11:27:27 Your DMAX(v4) Composite Armor Helmet-DCORP armor prevented 20 points of damage.



By my count, 1 composite armor prevention = 1 PSG armor prevention (because the composite didn't absorb it all) = 1 hit. I recall seeing the same thing in my logs as well (although I don't have them handy right now).


Am I misunderstanding what you are saying?

As I said, I think the Combat Log is bugged on the number of defenses for ScatterShot2.....potentially making it deal LESS DAMAGE than it should.


And yes all you NERF HERDERS out there I have proof of this ScatterShot2 bug that means the Devs should INCREASE the resultant damage. Boy won't this shock all those liar rumor starter types that screamed ScatterShot2 was over-powered.....



Or the Combat Log is really borked.....not sure but if we believe the Log then ScatterShot2 has an8X Damage Modifier and will makefrom 1-6 different hits, but the grand total not exceeding 8X. I get this from the multiple defense stops by my armor.


But the more likely explaination is the Combat Log is borked and the Damage Modifier is NOT 8X and NOT hitting more than 3 times.



Only a Dev can answer this.....

Well, I'm still not entirely sure what is wrong with my logic. However, I just ran a few tests using scatter shot 2 on some enemies, and the damage is not exactly 33% to each block. I saw this because for example, I did 446 total damage to a creature (without armor or resists), which is 148-149-149 damage. I would guess the system is calculating the total damage and then randomly deciding which HAMs to hit (doing 1/3 of the damage to each block), rather than calculating damage per block then adding it. I'm not sure why the combat log is so messed up then...

However, I'm inclined to agree with you TAfirehawk, in that there is no real way to tell what is happening in the back end without a dev telling us. The best/worst part is that it doesn't really make a difference which one of us is right as functionally both ideas have the same end effect.

The damage is not allways 33/33/33. It can be 33/33/33, or any combination of 67/33/0 (2 hits to one pool, one hit to another, and no hits to the 3rd), or any combination of 100/0/0 (all 3 hits to one pool, and none to the others). This info was confirmed months ago, and is even in the description of the attack.


Also, I would never use the combat log to try and calculate damage for this attack, as it is allready known that the combat spam for the initial attack is borked, thus implying to me that all related calculations relating to this attack are as well.

When I said 148-149-149, I was refering to the damage blocks, not the actual HAM damage. My point was that each block of damage was not identical. I know you can hit for 33/33/33, 66/33/0, or 100/0/0 HAM damage.
