Thread: Face the fact range weapons in this game is a waste of time

Very interesting discussion... I am actually fairly new to SWG, I remember buying the game the day I got the1 year aniversary picture in my inventory.

Since then I have been trying to find a profession that is fun and I can stick with it forever. The problems I'm running into with combat are basically the lack of character customization.. Two Teras Kasi Masters with no additive fencer skills, are almost like clones fighting.. /intimdate2 /intimidate2 /unarmedstun1 /unarmedstun1 /unarmeddizzy1 /unarmeddizzy1 /unarmedlunge1 /unarmedcombo2SPAM ... etc

Even if you someone manage to loot those awesome NS Vibromotors, that give +70 damage, and are left with a 100-250 damage Vibroknuckler, it still only boosts your damage about 300... And if you pay the insane amount of credits of getting tapes and krayt weapons, they break within a weeks worth of use.. I am still searching for a professoin that has a large amount of character customization, and is fun.

So I went through ALL the combat professions, Mastered 90% of them, then dropped them because they were so boring. TKM, Talk about Star Wars: Clone Wars. Fencer: Yawn.. I'd rather not have a fetish for stun batons Swordsman: Too overpowered, Pikeman: Pretty entertaining, lots of character customization, but the multipliers on the attacks are quite low... and the only way to deal out a substantial amount of damage in PvP is to use ... *shiver* DoT Pikes.

On the ranged side.. (excluding commando) Rifleman: Wow, what a pain, before every hunt I had to go and spend 10 minutes mind buffing, 15 minutes in a buff line, literally eat crates of food, all just to keep my mind cost under 10 per shot.. Also I feel kind of akward carrying around a huge T21 As a little blue Fish..

Pistoleer: Didn't complete, pistols just are not my thing..

Carbineer**: I am currently Working on carbineer ... (0043 Carbineer, 0400 BH) I'm not sure what, but something about this profession is so entertaining.. Maybe its the fact that everyone rubs their eyes when you walk by trailing the corpses of 100 squills, making sure that that is actually a carbine your wielding..

The only problems I'm having right now as a carbineer, is the fact that deep down, I'm doing it because no one else is, but after thinking about it, I really want to do an RP teras kasi. (with my teras kasi I never touched a piece of armor) I agree carbines are fun, but you really need to be commited to the profession to have a good time. Carbineers are GREAT Group players, sadly I don't have any Reallife friends that play SWG, so it is sometimes hard for me to form up a group.

Anyways, I have been thinking about my profession for about 5 days straight, and still have no idea what I'm going to do, but it's definatelybetween Teras Kasi or Carbineer..

Hey,

Make the best of it, people. Just drink up some Brandy. Eat some Synthesteak. Get buffed. Watch some entertainment. Nibble some KD food. Pull out your Krayt Carbines or any other good stuff. Off you go.

You probably get spanked if you get too close, but what a heck are you doing shooting carbines at point blank anyway? I think Lunge2 range is 30m or so. Good thing! Our carbines have highest accuracies near 30m.

Speed is an issue. But note that Swordsman and Pikeman can't reach speed cap either. (We aren't only the soar losers, as you put it.) You will really need +90 to reach "cap" with cripple, but I think you can reach cap with FAS2 with +75 or so. I am a BH mixer, but I have to tell you capped cripple doesn't kill faster considerably. Sometimes, I rely on good ol' FAS2 even when I got cripple capped.

Look at it on the bright side. You CAN dabble with BH carb. That is great! What's wrong with that?

Nothing wrong with doing TK/Carbineer. I think that is a great combo, almost as good as Carbineer/Fencer.

TK HAS always be far way too strong, they easily reach the speed cap and get those huge unarm damaged mods.

Seriosuly, saying that we should master TK with Carbiner is stupid, might as well drop carbiner for something better like fencer.

Absolutely nothing in my book. I am a BH that master Carbines and uses a lot of pistoleer. I love my profession(s).

The very top of Combat will always be those that SMARTLY dedicate 250 Skill Points to their combat goals. By all means, add to your "main" profession in all possible ways....skill points and SEA's and equipment.

And remember the Combat Upgrade is coming....eventually.....

Good, you go pure Melee and then I can kite your arse till the cows come home......

The serious PvP'er takes both Ranged and Melee in their template. There is a time and place to use each one, TACTICS will eventually be KING

My template is not even purely dedicated to combat (since smuggler is a hybrid prof) and people still boggle at the fact carbineer has an area kd, most people I talk to have no idea what a carbineer's abilities are. So ya, the melee stacker (we all know hes either going to go for the dizzy/kd or head hit) sees a guy holding a carbine, he thinks you are a complete noob and youdont know what you are doing, who do you think has the advantage here?

I agree...I converted and I LOVE IT! It is a very fun profession and I have even heard one of my friends,a Master Swordsma, call me an exploiter and cheater for using carbines against him. I Dizzy/KD him and he never stood up.

I used to do that before I knew the truth... And to all the SOLO comments by others... this is an MMORPG not JKA

Darth...I'm not sure what you mean by this is not JKA. I'm pretty sure the name of this game is SWG!

Through I would level up TK but I refuse to grind anymore in this Everquest skin.

Plus I don't think a Mon Calamari does so well with TK.. maybe so so with powerboost at best

YOU call ME a NOOB????

You really have no idea who I am around here do you? Glance left and look at my Title....and my registration date.....

Corellian Brandy is for kids, grab some Thak if you don't want to get KD'd.....oh but wait, look out for that PD

Now a proper Defense Stacker doesn't even need either of those as their NATURAL DEFENSE is enough to NEVER get put on the ground. Being a Carbineer I have stood toe to toe to more than one Melee template PvP'er and laughed at their utter lack to do one darn thing to me

BTW, I take exception to CM's and Jedi as I refuse to PvP such out of balance professions....but I will tackle a Rifleman just to show him that he isn't uber And you are welcome to come to Chilastra to see me in PvP Night on Thursday.
