Thread: Carbineer/Jedi Hybrid

Not wise to screw around with mixing normal and jedi professions. They don't work. If you are unlocking jedi then get it done to full template. Use your unlock as a support for you jedi. My support template for unlock is Mcarb/Mdoc. This is my buffer and hunter of normal loot. Also my krayt killer. My guild members like it when the doc hits the scene. His damage is consistent and he can tank a krayt if needed. Most times he fires at krayts from a prone position and rezzes anyone who dies. Jedi love him.

The bigdog of our guild, MDef/0404Sab with Enh & Heal, loves knowingmy Jedi/Rifleman iscovering his back with the big damage numbers andsome support healing(like when he needs to be pulled out of the hole before AI ends...)By being Hybrid, I can stand nearly side by side with him so that Idon't draw the agro far from him, and I don't need to worry about getting killed by groups of things that would gut any pure ranged template. When it comes to PvP, I've stood through 4v1 and come out on top. Of the more than 50 BHs that have come to punch my ticket, only 4 have managed to do it. I'm not invincable, those who know how to break me make short work of doing it (and other Jediseem to beexceptionaly good at it...), but the odd combination throwsthose who don't know how to deal with it, and makes short work of those who aren't prepared.
Hybridmay not work for you, but it works great for others. Myself, I would rather give up the near invunerability that comes with being an FoTM Jedi Knight, for a weapon that does some real damage overa puny CU flashlight with, and one that allows some flexibility in how it's used over being forced to chase down every target that I choose to attack, but that's just my style of play.
IMHO, Hybrid also fits better with the timeline than having 100s of fully templated Jedi running around. Those who are naturaly adept at using the Force would naturaly come to make use of it, but they wouldn't have access to the formal training available to those ofthe Old Republic. At most, I would expect some informal mentoring from someone more skilled. Anything moremight draw theattention of the Emperor. Many may not even know that theyare adeptsof the Force, only that they werebetter at many thingsthan others around them; much like Anakin had come to use the Force in his daily life, notknowing what it was that made him special until Qui'Gon found him.
Here is a little test I did when deciding to go full jedi or hybrid. I faught Jagged Fang, the vercatyl you need to kill to get the CL65 egg. She has a killer area combo attack and great health regen. As master lightsaber I was unable to kill the thing. She couldn't kill me, I couldn't kill her, well I could once I took out my bowcaster, note I have no rifle skills. Note this was before the LS revamp to use less force and elimental damage fix. Also I don't exactly have the best light saber in the game. I am sure a master lightsaber with a good saber can now take her.
I went back as a respec Master Swords, Master defender, 4000 healer. Had little problems taking her down. Easially did more damage than the regen. I kept that template for a while. I then went carboneer after the lunge nerf and getting some good carbine CAs. I was by there and decided to give her another try. This time I killed her without getting hit once!
So Master lightsaber did not get the job done. Master swords did a good job, master carbines did the job quickly and without taking any damage. For me the choice is clear.
A full template will not out damage a hybrid, won't out heal either. They may pick up a few extra skills here and there. However if they ever fix stun, blind and dizzy so they actually do something, you'll see the hybrids out shining the full templates that left the state heals out of their templates. Note the hybrids get those from their non jedi prof.
Well I tried the MCarb MDef Heal 3000 template and for me it was excellent apart from BH encounters.
The defences you get are something wonderful and for everything PvE the template rocks. But in the end I had to go back to MLS and here is why.
Armour break.
Without armour break I could not do enough damage over time to put down a good BH. We would stand toe to toe for eons. Eventually other BHs would arrive (rem this was pre the last BH nerf) because you look a nice target on the terminals. When it got to three or four BHs I would either make a mistake (not get up quick enough) or be killed by lag.
Always the MLS/MDef combo would outdamage me even with close to the best carbine moneyand loads of tapes.
If I were doing this again I would go MSwords/MDef/Heal 4000. Swords has Armour break and it could work out.

Funny part of the reason I switched from swordsman to carbines was because of the BH. Losing the KD on lunge was pretty bad. The problem is BH are pretty good at kiting anythng. This is true for swordsman. You do get in close enough to get a few wacks in before they get away. Least with the KD you could get the time to armor break and then hit them a few times. That was usually all it took.
What you need is a good kinetic weapon for any type of pvp. The BH show up in energy layered recon with a PSG and it is very hard to get through that. Use a kin weapon and they go down in a hurry. Quite amazing really. Being a wookiee I get a very nice bowcaster kin weapon. I don't get the mods though. You may want to look into something though, even a FWG5.
I am working on a similar path to this but was wondering a few items.
When I get down with my FS path. It will look like:
MCarb / MCM / Medic 4440 / FS(24)
This should get me out of the padawan trials. I want to get to:
MCarb / MFDef / Nov FH / FEh 2000 / FS (24)
The question I have is will I have to train up in Lightsaber in order to go back and actually get the jedi exp for my template? I really don't want to wield a glowstick in order to gaiin exp. Is there another way in order to do it?
Even a novice light saberist isn't going to kill a CL80 mob. You are basically going to need to leech off a group. With the new group exp changes this is going to be tough now. You'll need some friends willing to do you a hell of a long favor to get any jedi exp for any template. With that said someone else will do the killing for you, you simply need to get a hit on the creature. There are two ways todo damage, a light saber or a force power. Novice force powers has force hit that does very little damage but it is ranged and gets you exp. You'll need to get 20k of jedi exp with the saber to get novice powers. Even then you'll need to do some saber work when you run low on force. So there is no way around that lightsaber completely.
If you still have a respec you may want to train in a few low level saber skills until you get enough respec points for your template. Groups will be getting smaller now, so you'll need to carry your weight. A few saber skills will help you do just that.
I do have force run envy for sure but Iwould not give up my advance heals for it. Can always get a doc buff for speed, which seems to no longer stack with force speed. Nutricake covers my burst run needs, so other than being lazy and not calling a speeder, force run isn't that useful. The vehicle call time now helps a lot with that. I just find the heals more useful than speed/run for how I play my character. You may have a different idea on how to use your character however.
Mcarbineer, enhancer 2xx2, powers x4xx, heal 4xxx, defender x4xx.
This will give me good recon abilities, snare area root, ranged kd for some crowd controll. Good healing but may lack on the defensive side. Was wondering if force speed works with other weapons then lightsaber ? if not i still got another root, force run and channel force for longer cloaking sessions. Any ide what combat lvl i would get on?
my temp is
master Weaponsmith
0404 sabers
4000 healer
4400 enhancer
novice defender
a very viable PvE template and CL80
In theory, I could gun down everything around a lair and then chop it up with a lightsaber with no enemies? I guess that is a very slow way to level. But, imagine the amount of imperial faction I would have by the end of that..... heh.
