The point that we're focusing on in this thread is AFK faction farmers, as stated in the title. Do you see me embracing AFK'ers? No. I make an effort to support ATK entertainers, always try to find ATK docs. Plus, crafters grinding afk are grinding to get XP, not to make stuff. They use factories when they don't need XP/ want to make a lot of one specific item. I dislike any and all AFK play.

I have a clue. It's up to people like you to get angry, an make a feeble attempt to justify their own position, no matter what. AFK-ing anything undermines the whole point of the system. It's like the people who exploited Merchant to get vendors without keeping the skills. Basically, one line of my profession is devoted to the buying, selling, and transfer of faction points. The whole AFK-farming thing is like the afk looters: It ruins it for the people who play the game....

The point is: All AFK play is wrong. All of it. That includes afk farming.

Well said.

/sign. AFK play of any kind is unacceptable. It undermines professions and ruins the economy for others.

I'm not the minority. The minority are the lame people who AFK loot **edit**, faction farm, and entertain. The majority don't like these AFK'ers.

im sorry...i dont understand why this is a problem for you...i cant afk faction famr, i dont know how. but i would like to

fp is very hard to get much less grind, i have no intention of sellign mione, i need it fo faction perks

as its ive only got 2948 fp npcs give hardly any fp at all its very boring. so why shouldnt ior these faction farmers be able to leave a char online while they go to work or sleep to gain the fp they need?

in my opinion the best way to stop faction farming for those people that find it...offensive, is to give much much much better fp on the missions from rebel/imp terminals. Ive done many of these for quite frankly "piss poor" fp and they really arent wrth it.

i think thast why people afk farm. if missions actually give fp relative to the ammount fo wqork put in there would be no neeed to fp farm and you cant on these missions because of travel involved

iv no problem doing a mission that gives me 500 fp for completion and 100 fp per kill. but these missons give like 40 fp for completion and 25 for a kill

considering some perks etc cost 30kfp thats justa nother boring grind trhat isnt worthwhile

Just to give you an idea of how lazy people are who AFK farm. I went to the Imp vs Gungan battlefield on naboo. Im Imp and there were 3 other imps there farming faction AFK, from the same guild. Well I ignored them and went to work, and found that with their macro's I could easily out damage them and pickup faction points from nearly every npc. Well strangely after about an hour and a half of this, all of them returned to the keyboard at the same time as they stopped attacking and moving around. Instead of staying and out working me, which easily all 3 of them couldve done, all 3 of them left. Freakin noobs. Ive never AFK grinded anything and Ive been playing for two years. Its people like this who think Jedi is more difficult to get than mandolorian armor, which I found from a post I made on the jedi forums that many many Jedi have that opinion. Its really sad how many suppposed "veteran" players dont have a freakin clue about the game they "play", since their macrobots do it all for them. EIther ban em or make em perma teffed so someone who actually knows how to play the game can teach their sorry ass's a thing or two.

why not have the CSRs do what they do to the Jedi in the Rryatt trail? Drop a Jedi guardian there and wipe all the AFKers out? Do it a few times and they might leave

Okay, so I suspect that this post is going to draw some flame, but so be it. After reading about all of this, I decided to go out and spend some time this weekend faction farming. I went to the weapons facility and ran around for a whie killing imps, and, like all grinind, it was boring. I went outside and started fighting the imps there, was a little more fun (at least they attack back) but was still basically grinding, and was boring. Came up with a combat macro and sat at my computer desk reading a book while occasionally moving my toon around, and it was boring. Came up with another macro, afk'd, turned off my monitor, went out with friends, came home, did some housekeeping and organizing of my toons inventory, and realized that I was bored. After all, my toon (and computer) were occupied with the faction farming, leaving me unable to engage in my favorite activity (playing SWG). Almost ditched out on the experiment at that point, but realized that I needed to go to bed early anyways, so turned off the monitor and went to bed. Woke up, went to church, came home, turned on the monitor, and gave it up. Left to go do some more interesting stuff.I came to a couple of conclusions witht his little experiment.

1) Faction farming is really, really, really boooring. If you actually enjoy playing the game, this is pretty much just a big suck. Worse than grinding.

2) AFK faction farming sucks, since it effectively limitls the amount of time that you are able to actually play your toon. If you wat to pay your 15 bucks a month doing this, then more power to you.

Finally, and most importantly, this experiment proved once more that grinding as a means of achieving any objective is contrary to reality, it is contrary to the Star Wars story line, and it pretty much just sucks. Advancement, either to Jedi or to a particular GCW rank or to a CL, should be based on content. Not on the slaughter of millions of pickets or imperials or rebels or"camps". I mean, come on, this just doesn't make any sense at all. Different levels of faction for different levels of MOBS is just as ridiculous and pointless. And I'm a smuggler. I would love to make money off of selling faction, but in order for it to make any economic sense I have to be a colonel first. After doing just about every rebel ground mission out there, I was at Seargent, and seemed likely to stay there. It would have cost me about 3 million credits to buy my way to Colonel, or around 400 missions (about 50 hours of gameplay).

So what am I trying to say here? While I'm not really sure myself, it seems to me that it's the system that's broken, and broken at a fundamental level that I don't even think can be fixed. So untill it is, untill there is a way to achieve faction rank and rewards through storyline driven content, I don't care if you farm faction AFK or ATK....both are pretty much equally pointless in my mind. If you've got to do something and you hate doing it, and there isn't really any challenge in doing it, then it's pointless to do it in any but the easieist and least painfull of ways.

BTW, this will be the last time I ever farm faction in any form. It is booring, it takes away from the time I can play the game, and it's ridiculous and ruins my sense of immersion. Of course, I did make colonel by Sunday.

I'm sorry if I sound like an ass**** for this but here goes...

I find it very hard to have sympathy for someone bitching about AFK faction farmers taking thier business cause its one of their skills. For one reason...

If smugglers have no competition they would price gouge the **** out of us for the faction plain and simple. The only reason you smugglers sell as low as possible is because you have to. THIS BRINGS A BALANCE TO THE GAME!!! Without others being able to sell faction whats to stop a smuggler from charging 200 creds per fp or 250? Maybe 300. This is a price gouger bitching about another price gouger selling for a little less then they can. People will get tired of the smugglers gouging and just go off and get faction by killing NPC faction enemies. No one will buy anymore faction and that branch of your skill tree will be worthless anyhow.

Sony's answer is going to be a simple one if they decide to fix it. They are not going to get rid of faction so they are just going to have to take away the faction buying tree of smuggler and replace it with something else.

I have no sympathy as well for people that only complain about the problems with thier job skill and no one elses.

If you are that unhappy with smuggler then respec. If you came to the game after the CU then you should have understood all aspects of the prof before mastering it.

I go to the W.D. on talus and I grind faction AT THE KEYBOARD and report anyone who does it AFK if that will make you happy. I don't have any problems with people AFK'ing anything that does not affect our economy. AFK grinding an ent prof does not affect our economy cause you are the one that chooses how much you tip if any. AFK any combat prof does not affect it either cause combat is for killing not selling. It makes more sense for an Artisian to drop a factory and create things that way then AFK crafting. Its just afk'ing anything that will make you mass amounts of credits in a short time that I have a problem with.

Flame me at will. There is an 11yr old reading this right now because he thought smuggler meant being Han Solo that will disagree with every word I said. Go ahead and flame away. I am wearing a flame retardant suit anyhow.

Price gouge?

On the servers I play, I saw smugglers offer FP for 120. But smart FP buyers looked around and found those smugglers that offered for 110 or 100, wich is as low as a Imperial smuggler can go really to have a income.

That was before the AFK grinding became a widespread problem.

Competition, market, customer stupidity, all this affected the "FP economy", and yet, prices were as low as they could be, if you were a smart customer.

So no price gouging. Price gouging would have been if prices were 200/1, wich only a few smugglers sell em for, not to make a killer income, but to avoid being hazzled all the time to sell FP.
