A friend of mine was telling me a while ago, how a player who had the (HELPER) status displayed, bought his BARC off him for 20k and a Tuskan rifle claiming it was a rare item. This was just after the Total Experiance pack came out and he started playing the game. BARC's were worth 1.5 mil tops then but it still shows how corrupt the financial system of the game has become.

Something definatly needs to be done about this.

This practice has nothing to do with the honesty, or lack thereof, of the financial system. It has everything to do with people taking advantage of other people's ignorance. As stated elsewhere, this is just like real life.

A new player certainly gets burned by the experience. However, a new player does not necessarily have a lot invested in the game or the character. Live and learn.

Your arguemnt that the market detirmines the price and that the buyer was happy until a third paty stepped in are fine.

But

In the real worl i think i would know if i had a 3-5million dollar item in my possesion. I also wouldnt be expeirnce in the world for the first time as an adult fully clothed on some strange planet.

Its wrong to rob them of that item but then again its wrong for them to even have that item. Why would noobs just be given some kick as bike? Thats the reason they are getting robbed, because it stupid for a noob player to be just given an item of that caliber. Easy come easy go

Actually you might not. If you were given something obscure as a gift, you might have no idea of it's actual worth. Or worse, you might have a very wrong idea about the value of the item. Like someone told you that it was worth a few hundred and to wait a few years before selling without realizing that it was actually much more.

They're given the item because it's a promotional to attract them to the gamne. It's not wrong by any means. You don't deserve better things simply because you've been around longer. If marketing WANTS to give to promotions to vets, they can, but in no way do you deserve the items.

Not sure dishonorable is the right word. The idea is to buy low and sell high. If someone does not know the value of thier item, is it the role of the seller to tell them. Also, most of these people were happy with the deal until a third party stepped in. If I sell my BARC for 20K and am happy, it does not matter that the buyer sells it for more.

Sure I think dishonorable is the right term. Doing this is not scamming as other posters have said. It does follow the buy low, sell high principle. However exploiting the ignorance of newbies is hardly something to be proud of.

Happens on Antiques Roadshow all the time

Seriously though, to the OP: One of the things you said right off in your first post is the prime reason behind this issue in this case. You said you play on Bria. I don't normally serverslam, but Bria has had a messed up economy for ages, and lots of less than scrupulous people. Thats why I never played more than a few hours there. Even though I had a RL friend based there, I didnt visit because everything I saw in the forums and most everything I hear about the server makes it less than pleasant sounding. I know this happens on every server, and I know there are rotten folk all over, but I wouldnt be surprised at all to learn it happens more often there, and for a larger amount of credits.

I gotta jump in here on one point you made in the first post, Though I do agree that scamming noobs for barcs is wrong and I wouldn't ever do it,I disagree where you make the statement that :T"his is contributing to the declining economy". The SWG economy rocks, it is not declining in any way shape or form. I'm on my way to making my first BILLION credits, and I am doing it in what I feel is an ethical manner both in real life and in game. The economy is changing all of the time, and prices fluctuate but even the CU didn't put more than that first Post CU weekend sale drop into my cash flow. Its what has kept me playing as long as I have. Do people pay stupid amounts of credits (remembering they are fake money) for things like BARCS or paintings, yes, but in real life people do the same thing, remember "Tickle me Elmo" or even real life star wars figures still in the original packaging?? At the same time stuff like grinder resources (my speciality) harvesters, etc sell like the always did. The BARC thing will blow over, they will bounce around for a bit and than some other new dodad will come along and take its place. The cycle will repeat.

Um.....as far as the devs stated and i understood what they stated.

You can only have one per account. That means, only one toon on one server on one account can have the BARC reward. If you are getting more than one, then put in a /bug ticket and/or contact a CSR.

As for other maybe having more than one BARC, they bought them off of other players or they have more than one account.

It's AWARDED to one toon per account. The BARC is tradeable, you can own as many as you want. It means if you have 10 toons, nine of them will not get it (which I think is stupid, every toon you have should get one, just like the flash speeder).

You buy the TE.

You log in and get besieged with tells wanting to buy your BARC.

If you succumb it is natural selection at work with the smart eating the stupid.

Let's face it, it's just stupid to log in for the first few weeks and make any big decision.

giving any promotion that offers a highly collectible item in a highly collectible atmosphere set this all in motion,

If people were given the option of picking one of these out as a 6 month vet reward none of this would have happened.

I bought a barc under this macro :BARCS ARE WORTH MILLIONS TO SOME BUT NOT TO ME.ILL GIVE YOU 200K

AND 2 SETS OF THESE CRAPPY JEDI CLOTHES SEND A T/.

This took me 5 minutes b4 i had a noob named sajii telling me i was a scammer lol.

We proceeded to talk talk, here was the just of the conversation,

filo: I am not scamming you i am telling you what these are worth and what ill give you, How is that a scam?

sajii: they are worth 6 million dollars and all you are paying is 200k for one. that is scamming.

filo: no it is not, i have clearly told you what these are worth to some millions. but not to me because I do not believe they are worth

that amount. Some people will pay you that but not me.

sajii: why does everyone want one of these?

filo: because they can not be destroyed permaneantly, they are a special offer only availably when you buy a new game.

sajii: why are they worth 6 million?

filo: because a lot of people that have been playing for a while have that kind of money. They are willing to spend that amount.

I have been playing 4 months and have nowhere close to that type of money. So i will not pay that for one.

sajii: can i see the jedi clothing?

filo it is made by a guy in coronet it is pretty awesome, it doesnt have any powers but it is cool looking and you will look like a jedi.

sajii: sweet, this stuff is pretty cool, how do you find it?

filo:I found it on the vendor search, some crafter makes it. It is the only stuff like that ive found.

sajii: hey ill rade my barc to you for 200k and those clothes, its not worth 6 million i want an ab1 they are sweet.

filo: ok cool lets trade.

1. he was not stupid or scammed.

2. he was well aware of value from everyone running around yelling what a few people could afford.(not me)!!!

3. shop around. It pays to shop around period.

4. I did this because i wanted a barc and had already purchased galaxie and jtls and the manuel(which is no good)ans i was not gonna buy T.E, also the barc is still not worth millions of dollars tome, maybe to you but not to me. in fact want to buy my barc for 10 million dollars ? cuz if any fool is willing to part with 10 million bones for a barc your nuts.

props to you, man. I'm inspired. I wanted a BARC for one of my characters, but if I add up all 7 galaxies worth of credits together I might maybe add up to 1 million. Now I know that there's a chance to get one... even if I have to do a little work.

if peeps are buying barcs at low prices so be it..its a legitimate sale. whether for 100k or 2mil or whatever. has absolutely nothing to do with the economy. sounds like jealousy to me. and yes i have 2 that i use often. what is affecting the economy is crafting bugs and the lack of people to craft the things needed . but we can all thank the cu for this causing most of the good crafters to quit the game. everyday these crafting bugs continue people will give up that specific profession for somthing that actually works, albeit nothing hardly is working properly atm crafting wise.

I know when TOE came out, I had 5 or 6 friends join the game. I took them and started to teach them the ways of the game. I gave them some starting loot, based on what I had and what their goals where. Nothing to excessive. Maybe 10k credits and a couple of good starting weapons. After they got to a CL of 15ish, they understood enough to do most purchasing on thier own and knew how to search for the better prices on items on the terminals. I was the Master and they were Padawans, in a sence. That is what most noobies need. Someone to teach them and help them understand the ways of the game.

Now those 5 players are CL64 or higher and can make it on their own. We all go out hunting and help out in quests. Three of use are also FS and the rest help out with the quests, even though they get not much more than some XP and creds for it. Things like this build the community of the game and make it much more enjoyable.

When you think about it,

If a nooblet is daft enough to sell his / her barc for a fraction of what they are worth then that noobet aught to have just stopped for one second and said to himself / herself

Is this worth it?

Why is this other player so despirate to have this ride?

Should I ask someone how much its worth first?

Instead they see the good old credits and think

Ohhh money!

So whos fault is it really that these barc's are getting traded about like illegal diamonds? A noob might not know how much its worth sure, But ignorance is never an excuse. All it takes is a lil research and you can find out if anyone is trying to rip you off. Isnt that the whole purpose of a buisness and economy forum?
