I think the dev's need to put a restriction to the amount of BARC speeders a account can have in a specific timespan. I recently started a second character to have a play around on and have continuously been asked if I have a BARC speeder and being offered ridiculously low prices for them with the buyers comparing them to a standard speeder.

People are conning newbies out of the BARC's and selling them on for extreme profit. Buying them for between 30-100k and selling them for 5 mil. (As seen on BRIA)

I think a limit needs to be placed on an account so that this trend cannot continue. This is contributing to the declining economy.

I understand people may wish to buy a replacement speeder, however many people are abusing this and buying them just for the profit margin.

Um.....as far as the devs stated and i understood what they stated.

You can only have one per account. That means, only one toon on one server on one account can have the BARC reward. If you are getting more than one, then put in a /bug ticket and/or contact a CSR.

As for other maybe having more than one BARC, they bought them off of other players or they have more than one account.

I think that's the point, they DID buy them off others ... others who were brand new and thought they were getting a LOT of credits for this speeder, when they were actually selling for a fraction of the price. It's a dirty trick, but it's certainly true to life...

I had someone start sending me tells at the Dathomir Science Outpost on the first day of the current cycle offering 5 million for my Health Crystal....

I don't know what its worth, but I know its worth more than 5 million....

Sadly, you get these losers trying to scam noobs all the time. These are the same losers who will grow up to get caught scamming old people on roof repair or home improvement scams...

Unfortunately, SOE doesn't have a Noob Awareness Program to help noobs cope with the predators out there.....

I think it just shows that dishonesy can really carry over from real life into a game... I personally know one of these jerks... he scammed a newb out of aBARC for 750k and another player (a newb who inherited a player from an older brother) out of his annual ADK reward for 1 million... You can't blame newbs, though that is what to trade forums are for... before you sell, make sure you knowsomething isworth...

I had a player offer me an ADK for 4 million... i told him he could get 8 or 9 million for it... he said we was hard up for cash and "needed a BARC", I only had 5 mill, so I gave him the 4 he needed for his BARC... You can feel bad about being honest.. but there is no way to stop all the jerks..

A friend of mine was telling me a while ago, how a player who had the (HELPER) status displayed, bought his BARC off him for 20k and a Tuskan rifle claiming it was a rare item. This was just after the Total Experiance pack came out and he started playing the game. BARC's were worth 1.5 mil tops then but it still shows how corrupt the financial system of the game has become.

Something definatly needs to be done about this.

It's dishonorable, but hardly illegal.

I never said it was illegal, I said that it should be stopped.

Your right it is dishonourable, and this dishonourability is helping in the decay of the economy.

Not sure dishonorable is the right word. The idea is to buy low and sell high. If someone does not know the value of thier item, is it the role of the seller to tell them. Also, most of these people were happy with the deal until a third party stepped in. If I sell my BARC for 20K and am happy, it does not matter that the buyer sells it for more.

This is an interesting problem. Each Galaxy has it's own set of prices, and it's own set of scamers. One thing that can be done is to have a group of players set up a type of "Consumer Advocate Group". Not so much a full blown guild, but instead a group of players that step into stop these con-artists from doing their deeds. One way of doing this {as stated above} is to set up a barker droid on Tatooine to inform new players of either prices on thier goods {i.e. the BARC} or even have them contact other players before they make a sale. One thing to watch out for is to be sure that these con-artists aren't mentioned in the barkers yells, or you might have to deal with a CSR.

Other thigns to know about doing this are:

  • Planets where most new players will travel to

  • Possibly even have a new play information (in-game) E-mail sent to players when they join a city.

Just some ideas to ponder on.

Again we get into people trying to decide the price for everyone... Who appoint these people to decide? What gives them the right to decide? Here is another one for you while we are at it this is a RPG.... ROLE PLAYING GAME who decides the fine line between Role playing a smuggler thief and a scoundrel and actually being one?

Personally i don't engage in the bike trade or any other newbie item trading... I sell armor and cheaper than most on my server just voiceing my opinion... If you feel that they are getting so badly treated why not get in there and offer them what you consider a fair price for their item...

Giving a new player 5m credits isn't the best thing for their game experience. Have a nice and honest guildee that went looking for the speeder and found someone and bought it for 3m. Guy ended up joining our small little guild which came with our help and resources, leveled his toon in about a week, played for another and haven't seen him since. Just makes the game too easy to start off with that kind of money and help.
