It will definitely have a negative impact on my rare resource business, If this goes through I'll probably take around a 20 to 30mil hit. There will be virtually no point in the 30k resource kitsand I will have no incentive to pick up my harvesters and move them around, "Static Harvester" lots here I come. I guess we will get those 45.00 crafting stations that our server has been lacking, yippee! Looks like its time to get out of the resource business and grind out that Jedi "Character Unlock"I'vebeen neglecting sincelaunchso Ican be like most of the other cattle out there.

I think it's great that Entertainers and Crafters finally got some attention and I hope they get even more attention in the future but there are other things they could do to help them out.

i don't think your understanding....now....your third and fourth best resources...should be as pricey as your best resource of each class. you just hit the jackpot.

btw, static harvs = exploiting. ...don't give in to it.

Thats the problem,I only dealin the best resources and don't have those lesser qualities and the static harvesters will be mine own so no exploiting going on there , Yavin 4 will probablybe a good place to visit once a week.

hmmm..i see it's time to raise prices on all resources. finally woot! lol

That's possibly the only way this change will effect me directly. Being a tailor and furniture making architect I don't need good resource, any old crap will do, but if ALL prices suddenly start rising because they can now be considered 10% better with buffs it will have a knock-on effect.

Luckily I mine all my chemical myself and only have to buy metal and gemstone, in fact I might see how much storage space I have and stock up just in case. And thus we are back to resource hoarding!

i'm guessing the idea is to give newer crafters a fair shake but what it really means is that all that matters to a crafter in terms of competition is name only. and the way you gain a name for yourself nowis, in large part, time and customers knowing that that means you have the resources to give better products

it actually makes the entry for newer crafters harder...people will still go to the older crafters out of habit...there is simply no reason to go anywhere else as long as vendors are stocked if its all the same.

the only way newer crafters will make it in is by advertising (aka spamming...fabulous) or by having many veterans quit all at once. which might happen since there isn't much incentive to craft if you can't excel at it. there's more money in looting.

the only possible way to excel now is ... hmm. customer service on made to order stuff. thats it. and most people don't bother with that unless they have loot drops. that covers what...weapons, slicing, RIS armor...can't think of anything else.

You hit the nail on the head, my friend.

This is yet another chicken little thread about the impending destruction of the SWG economy. Everytime something changes, the system is supposed to come crashing down. Yet somehow, (virtual) life seems to go on. Armorsmiths are still making armor, WS are still making weapons, and SW are still building ships; maybe not as many crafters as before, but certainly enough to fill the void. This in spite of all of the predictions of dire consequences from the CU and the changes to the various crafting profs. Too bad the no longer seem to teach basic econonmics in high school anymore. Business in RL and in this game has always been about more than who has the best resources. It's a combination of things and so far at least there have been no changes that couln't be compensated for by the crafter/merchant simply shifting their emphasis. All products are the same; well do something that make YOUR business stand out. It works; I've done it myself. Personalized service is one thing. Taking every custom job no matter from who and no matter how small is another. Helping peeps and giving out free stuff is another. Keeping a well stocked vendor is HUGE. I've only been in game for about 6 months but my SW business successfully competes with the best on the server. This includes quality. I just had to put in the extra effort to gain a comparable level of quality and stand out by being known as the go to toon for anything youi could need. I advertise, but mostly my customers spread the word for me. So far, I've made millions. I'm not the cheapest, but my prices are fair and I'm always willing to make a deal. If you've got something to trade, or are will to do something for me that I can't do, then we can do business even if you don't have the credits for the things you want. So far, this has worked well.

Personally, I'm glad ents finally have something of value they can make money from. It's not quite the way I would have done it, but at least the dev team threw them a bone after hosing them for so long.

So bottom line, there will be no negative impact on the economy from this change.

the thing is customer service is not asked for by most people in game, unless they have loot drops and want a special weapon/armormade.

otherwise, standard stuff, they just go with whats on a vendor

i'm also a chef...no one wants special orders on chef stuff...they want to see a stocked vendor. thats it. there are no loot drops. closest thing i get is an email that says something like "hey you're out of..."

i've also been an architect and tailor. those are almost strictly special order stuff. there just isn't much call for tatooine banks or endorian medium gardens. in my experience, most shipwrights operate the same way. only thing on the vendors is missiles

so basically, the concept of homogenizing all crafters leaving only one point of competition in terms of customer service creates absolutely no difference for: chef, tailor, artisan, sw, smuggler (spices have no experimentation still) and architect

makes crafting unchallenging in any way for: ws, as, and be.

making your business stand out means you have to have a selling point, something customers want. before that would mean saying i'm a 12 point smith who's been in business awhile, i have great resources and experience. if standard products are all the same, all they want is a stocked vendor. there is no challenge in that, thats just grinding.

Word is the buff will be reduced to 2% instead of 10%.

It's true, the resource buff is being changed to 1% for artisan, and 2% for everyone else.

Who ever said that whiners can't get their way?

Well...all whiners except entertainers, apparently.

Aww that is too bad, I was kinda hoping that the 10% would go through, it owuld mean I wouldnt have to work as hard as I do now to remain competative. I may actually get time to do other things in game.

I don't see it aswhining. Many valid points were raised regarding this issue. Slim posted a very well thought out and presented case against it a few posts above. The main issue was the initial figure of 10%, it was way too high and would probably have had a devastating impact. I say probably because it was not certain, but very likely. The problem with it was that once implemented it would have been too late, it's not a change that could effectively be tweaked after going live due to crafters stockpiling pre-made schematics incase of a reduction in the %. The fallout would have lasted many months and would have created yet another 'pre-nerf' scenario.

2% is not potentially game-breaking for crafters and i'm sure the % doesn't even matter to Entertainer classes. They willstill have the ability to buff andit will be a desireable buff without creating cookie-cutter crafting.

2% is less damaging overall but it does still present some issues

many of slim's points are still valid

on the plus side for entertainers, it does still mean that the buff is an absolute requirement (for example)
