Thread: Ex-panded Spaceports
and like others have said: jump in your ship, launch into space then hyper to where you want to go. Takes longer than the shuttle, and you get your fix of seeing yourself travel :/

Why not let you select whether you would like to get to your destination quickly (for non RP players) or the long way (for RPers)
But isn't the choice already inherently there through refusing to board immediately?

I'm not trying to be funny but if you want RP travel then why not group with your fellow RPers, all board a multi player ship & fly to your destination manually?
I agree. That capability already exists in the game, and if it helps your immersion, please by all means do it!
Being a casual player who doesn't have hours to spend online find it quite nice to be able to go wherever I want to and do my business. If I had to wait any longer than the starport/shuttleport wait time was previously, it would ruin my fun as I would have less time to do what I wanted to do for the night before I log off.
I do think that it is kinda silly that we are able to transport instantly to another planet. I mean come on, some of these planets are thousands of lightyears apart (think of the distance between Tatooine and Dathomir). Yet I can take of from Mos Eisley and in 15 seconds appear at Dathomir Trade Outpost. In the movies and the books, travelling takes hours, days even. Remember when Anikin and Padme were travelling from Coruscant to Naboo, they were in that transport walking around, getting food, talking, of course you never see how long trips actually take in the movies. However, I don't think that is the way travel should be in a video game. If you had to wait hours for your toon to arrive at its destination, noone would play.
They have to abandon realism for playability, and it really helps for people like me who can only play for one or two hours a night. I know it's not realistic to have a new shuttle to arrive every 60 seconds (hell, in most real life cities, the busiest bus routes usually have 10-15 minute waits between buses), but anything longer doesn't fly in a MMORPG... even in a single player game (can you imagine playing The Sims and having to wait 8 real hours for your toon to get back from work?).
I'm sorry if it ruins your immersion, but it sure enhances the immersion of a lot of people who like to get on, do stuff, get off and get on with real life. It really made things difficult before JTL when it took about 30 minutes to get from my harvestors on Lok to my harvestors on Dantooine. Having to wait for the shuttle to go to Nym's, then from Nym's to Tatooine, then to Corellia, then to Dant Mining Outpost, and finally to the shuttleport nearest my harvestors there. If I had to wait at every shuttle stop, it took forever, and there goes my entire game time hat night just doing that one harvestor run (and thats not just one night, I checked em every couple days to make sure the spawns were there and the hoppers weren't full). There's an immersion killer for ya.
But seriously, if you like waiting for the shuttles, do what Flucka suggested or what other people in this thread have suggested and wait a few shuttle rounds before you finally decide to board it.

Solving the aspect of those who want the immersion of this prospect and those who simply want to log in for 15 minutes, and jump to Dantooine to push off some missions like this is a good idea.
Having to gather upa bunch of people, find someone with a YT transport just isn't the same and is quite annoyingly 'the same'. For us old veterians particularly, hitting those same looking npc transports endlessly almost kills it. I almost lost my breath at how un-interesting spaceports were at SWG's launch, and even now to see that it hasn't changed except for some faster travel options, is paunful to say the least.
For those fast travelers, your RIGHT. IT would be foolish to just change the entire system to inconveniance you, to force you to roleplay. Alright, point well taken. So as QueenPadma said, the option to insta travel should still be viable and not taken away.
But for the average gamer that would love to see at least some of this stuff implemented, further expanded alternative immersion would be a great addition to the game. Don't like it, well the old system could still be there for you in those days of hurry. And for the person who has the time and the strong desire to enjoy the quality of such gameplay (old players and new players to the game alike), than we would all feal rewarded to be given such opportunity to enjoy the universe. The best way to look at it, is not so black and white, as powergamer vs. roleplayer. More of compromising, by creating the true ability, the option to choose for yourself.

Alright to tell you the truth as an old vet to the game, I grew beyond irritated with the static same shuttles coming to get us everywhere like that over a year and a half ago.
Its time for some changes, even if they delay actually expanding the spaceports and such, the least they could do is decote an hour to designing some interesting new shapes and colorations for some assorted transport ships, fix them up, present them to the project leads, get them approved and include it i the next mini-publish.

Simple fix for ALL the Role players who don't like the 1 min delay now on shuttle thats 99% of the rest of DO like. Sit there for 15 mins if you want and RP but don't make everyone else who LIKES the 1 min delay have to wait.
Well the R in MMORG does stand for ROLE-PLAYING.... don't want to RP then play another game...none of the problems with this game would be there if the "R" in MMORG had any bearing here.
