Spaceports. RP'rs hate their static npc quick insta travel. The economy hates their mini-blackhole on galactic funds. People who like star wars at all, wonder how somehow in one second, one npc shuttlething can take you to ANY place, with the pause of a loadscreen.

Solution: Expand spaceports into diverse places with multiple landing pads for different destinations, IE Solo's ship being in docking back A95, and also they should make some more functions for civilian merchants/pilots alike, allow major large transport ships to be piloted, for both large scale ore deliveries (Risk of ambush and self defense, flee, or drop cargo) or taking on large to small groups of people (Charging ticket prices, ) and flying from system to system like a commerical airliner for space..

You could have it become a multiuser franchise, recquireing players to create businesses with partners in order to both access the multi piloting features of a large frigate efficiently, and for insurance of self defence.. And for maintaining passenger enjoyment, like a band in the middle.. Sure a man with the money to have an undecorated unfancy cheap travel frigate could transport people.. (they wouldnt pay as much for it) but the risk of being ambushed undefended almost outweighs the cheap ticket price.

Wouldnt we all feal happy paying a nice clump of credits on a ticket aboard a sophisticated extremely expensive to build passenger spaceliner that is conveniently decorated and is well armed and well piloted, and guaranteed to get you to your destination realisticly and fast?

A much larger spaceport would allow for a ticket purchase, (the terminals would be hooked up to the merchant/airliner pilots whom have recently landed or intend to land soon and have hooked up to the subsequent spaceport) the tiket terminal would direct you to your appropriate landing pad, and their could be pads of assorted sizes. Areas where some snubfighters could land discretely, and mid areas where a nice YT-1300 could land and head off to the nearest cantina and look for mischief, or even some of the larger docking/re-fueling bays for the much larger transport/and passenger frigates..

(For everyone else) In the event there were no passages to your desired destination by a player (then you could resort to the npc verson, but this version shouldbea bit of an expensive bargain, like purchasinga quick tickusing a high priority flight.. ) This would fix the thought of you trying to get to correlia at two in the morning when there are few pilot vessels in site..

Simple fix for ALL the Role players who don't like the 1 min delay now on shuttle thats 99% of the rest of DO like. Sit there for 15 mins if you want and RP but don't make everyone else who LIKES the 1 min delay have to wait.

Despite thinking that Spaceports should be seriously remodeled, I very much agree with that, SWG is not just a game for roleplayers (by any means AT ALL) and thus I beleive it should be a duel blade, spaceports could be modeled to be more fun for the average player and new players alike, while still providing quick. easy. access to everyone else like normal. I mean hell, there are so many times when we log in for just a small amount of time, and spending 30 minutes rp'ing your way to meet your friends on Dantooine would truly and utterly impose irritation on the majority of players.

However, even with keeping 1 minute space travel, alot of people would enjoy seeing at least multiple ships to head to respective planets.. NPC controlled, fast, or not, it would at least make the game feal in more depth. Period.

I agree with your ideas. It would definetly help to add that starwar-sy feeling almost eveyone is looking for. And for the people who don't have time to travel on someone's ship, buy your own.

Your ideas are good but you have those that don't want this option. Instead, why not disable the load screen and replace it with a video clip or scene (i.e. Like when you take off in HyperSpace).

Users that don't have ships:

  • Show spacecraft take off, fly through the atmosphere, and dock above the planet at the Station. Then take off to the desired planet and location.

  • Show shuttle take off, and fly to desired location.

Users with ships:

  • Show selected ship take off from Starport, fly through the atmostphere, and dock above the planet at the station. Then take off to the desired planet starport.

Well i kind of hate this spaceport time. Everytime i try to kill a overt player he burst runs and trys to lose me so he doesnt have the engaged in combat box and then runs for the starport and blasts off to the next planet. Also sometimes when i am waiting near by the starport overts see me and run to the terminal and burst run to the ship.

Also its kind of dumb where your watching 1 ship take off then a few secs later another ship lands. Hmmm does the company running the spaceport transport service have that much ships to travel all over the place in 60secs o well aleast its easier to get around then waiting 5 or 10 mins for the ship I guess.

No I don't want to travel realisticly I want to get there fast. Whilst I like some of your ideas for adding a bit of content and 'immersion' to the Starports, making travel take a longer time simply serves as a frustration to most players.

Since the arrival of insta travel with JTL & the new 1 min shuttle service it has become viable to say play the game for a quick 1 hour session & have time to grab a buff, travel to a planet & do a bit hunting. Anything that deliberetly hinders my access to the game in this way and serves no real purpose within the game just causes frustration.

I'm not trying to be funny but if you want RP travel then why not group with your fellow RPers, all board a multi player ship & fly to your destination manually?

I agree 100% with the original poster.

I understand that powergames love the 1min delay between shuttles but this doesnt make sense at all, break immersion and does not encourage people to use multiplayer ships.

Longer delays on NPC flights would make travel more challenging, people would have to think twice before going to the opposite side of the galaxy, they would maybe have to find player-driven transportservices, all in all this would add more depth and realism to the game, which is better in the long term.

The 1min delay is a popular change, but if the devs added the ability to become master of any given profession in just one click, i'm sure it would also be very popular and most people, taken individually, would like it. But for the overall interest, it would not be a good thing because it would make the game less challenging.

How about this. The Empire does away with, or temporarily (for testing purposes) halts, all public service transport between systems due to say, increasing number of ambushes en route to the destinations. Make a transport ship that is able to be piloted by a player, and players will be able to perform transportation of other players between planets.

So whats the going rate for a ticket, like 700 creds? Take that, and the number of players that use the shuttles between planets that will have to use player transport on the new player-piloted shuttles, say 10 people take a ride on your route - thats 7000 creds for transporting players to their destination.

Just a thought.

Not wanting to spend 30 minutes travelling from Lok to Dantooine doesn't make me a power gamer.

Users that use NPC transportation:

Show user board transport, the transport taking off, flying through atmoshpere, docking at Space Station, taking off and landing at the desired Starport.

Show user board shuttle, the shuttle taking off, shuttle flying to destination, and land at desired Starport or City Shuttle.

Users with their own transportation:

Show selectedtransport take off from Starport, fly through the atmostphere, and dock at Space Station, take off and land at thedesired planet-Starport.

These cutscenes would replace the 1 min. loadscreen!
