Thread: BARC Ripoff?
Maybe I shouldnt had done that trade. Curse you Vets taking advantage of us new guys for our rare BARCs and then trading them to other Vets for about quradruple times the cost.
At least its not the best veichle in the game. Maybe if they change it so it gets affected by terrain or somehthing. Oh well I can just start a PA for us guys who got ripped off our BARCs.
just because you could have gotten more, doesnt mean you got ripped off... a million credits is a lot of money for a new player. it will be far more usefull to you that the speeder would have been. The current price is silly, it is just people who can afford not to wait for the price to come down, which it will.. and soon.
You could buy about 50 swoops for what you were paid for your barc. Or, you could use that money to keep you in resources that will let you grind all the way to master in an artisan skill, so you can make more than a million a day.. and buy all the barc speeders you can carry ![]()
Last night, some tool sends me a tell: "duh, I'll trade ya some armor fer yer speeder." I guess he thought my CL was my IQ. ![]()
When I tell him that:
a) I'm not selling, and
b) that he must be new, because the bike's worth at least 10 mil (I pulled the number out of my butt-crack, figuring he'd go away).
He says that price is "hi". Next thing I know he's in the starport hawking 2 BARCs for 10 mil each. LMAO.
I think the past couple of days have been a bit sad, really. Everytime I go to Mos I see vets hanging around the starport like it was an LA bus depot, looking for new players to cheat out of their BARCs in exchange for a house or some piece of crap they had lying around.A mil is a bit low considering the price thay are going for right now, but at least it's in line with the bike's true value. But a 50k piece of armor or an 8k house? Some of these new players are probably little kids. I guess there really are people out there who steal candy from babies.
Maybe we should add a new profession: the grifter. At least that way these crooks can RP being a con-artist and get XP for it instead of just doing it for a speeder.
FWIW, I got mine to old fashioned way; I paid $25 RL and bought the expansion. Although I admit I ripped of my alt to get it.He's such a n00b!![]()

Yes, it is one of the fastest things, if not the fastest. Also, terrain doesn't seem to bother it at all, it's up the Theed waterfall like it's not even there. To the veteran player who is familiar with the SWG economy, a BARC is worth whatever they want to pay for it. I paid 7 mil for mine, and am happy with the price. I wanted one because it looked cool and it was fast, unlike the craftable new vehicles with the manoeuverability and speed of a dustcart. Not to mention that I had to go up Theed waterfall at an angle in my AB-1 because if I went straight up it stopped near the top.
What I object to is the exploitation of new players (I hate the word noobs) who are being hustled in Mos Eisley. And exploitation it is. They have no idea of the SWG economy and are being offered a standard Speeder/Swoop/AB-1 plus a derisory figure of about 50k in some cases in exchange for their BARC. Players buying these then sell them on for millions. For all they know after thirty minutes in the game they have done well. One day or one week into their gaming they will know they have been shafted. What a great start for them. And the fact that 50k or 100k or whatever is alot of money to a new player cuts no ice. In 99% of cases if they knew the true value thay would not sell for the ridiculous prices being offered to them.
Just because new players have no knowledge of the game and the economy is not a valid reason to take advantage of them. On Infinity there are a few players planning to set up Merchant Barker droids in Mos Eisley to make new players aware of the value of their BARC so they are not unknowingly undersold. Not offering to buy their BARCs, just making them aware of their value.
Call me a carebear, a busy-body or whetever else you wish. I don't like to see players being taken advantage of. This game needs good new players more than it needs veteran conmen.
I dunno. I agree that exploiting players is wrong...unfortunately, I don't know what can be done about it, first off (devs police every player on every server? Yeah right), aside from people reporting 'em, in which case I doubt the CSR's would do much besides go 'Caveat emptor. You shouldn't have sold it for so little. It's your own fault.'
Heck, when I first started, 50K would've been lovely to have... And still, I think the BARC madness will die off soon enough. It's a new toy, one you can get for $30 now if you get the TE, and likely in a month's time will be able to get for much less, game prices never stay at their peak levels for long, seems like. I'm just glad the other new speeders aren't experiencing this price glut, at least on Sunrunner. I stood in Cnet for about ten minutes while loading up new weapons and shields on my ship, and heard one barker yelling out, 'All the new speeders, 20K!' Then another shouted, 'I've got all the new speeders, 15K only!' Lo and behold, the first one: 'The new speeders, 12K at my shop!' Don't think they went lower than that...
Two months from now, maybe three:
'BARC speeder must go! Selling for 5 million!'
'Don't buy from him! I've got one going for 2 million!'
'Oh, yeah?! I'll go down to 1 million for mine!!'
'That's nothing, 500K!'
'Why you little $%@&...'
Duels in Cnet starport, over selling a newbie scooter
chessdemon yes it is my own fault for selling it BUT
They could have had something in the Total Expirience box telling how good the exclusive BARC speeder is, kind of like how in the City of Heroes Collectors Edition it comes with somehting saying what the exclusive in game things were.
The devs wont do anything because they have no control over the community and it is the players choice to trade what they want which I understand

Finally, a fellow player who hates the word noob
I was in Mos Eisley last night, bored to tears, spamming all new players to not sell their Barcs for less than 5mill. I'm on the Gorath server and the people that con new people out of Barcs are @r seholes.
On a different note. Mos Eisley has slightly changed, the building just outside the starport has gone and there are new NPCs for the new players, and just outside Mos Eisley around the back of the starport is a Sandpeople little market. Easy sandpeople spawn there to give them something to kill. I'll tell ya thats a darn sight more fun than having to kill stupid romp rats.
It's a "fair" trade because you both agreed.
Harsh, but business is so.
No business ethics?
What is you bought your BARC before the "market" had been established on your server?
Besides, which is better?
Buying a BARC froma new player, having some interaction with them and thinking you offered them a fair deal...
...or subsidizing the scumbags who buy up BARCS for next to noghting (and I mean nothing) and then sell them to veterans for a 300% mark up?
As for the varactyl, it's value will come in time. As people opt out of the digital download and the new plaers are laregely here becauseof the TE box, the proportion of Varactylsin the game will diminish.
Detective Comics #1 wasn't worth much when it was printed, it took time forit to gain value.
