Thread: Locked Containers

I got tired of hoping to loot them off rebel or swooper corpses so I swallowed my pride and made a macro to shout that I was doing it for free, they keep the contents and if I failed I paid out 1000cr. Of course I used clamps, but shhhhh, it's a smuggler secret.

Once I started yelling I got about 8 in the course of an hour. I stopped looking inside them to see what they got after I sliced one and handed it back with the guys +5 Pistol speed skill tape... Just too painful if I know, and I'm not established enough yet to start ripping off my customers

In short, yelling that you're doing it seems like begging, ruins the RP aspect of smuggling, but is the easiest way to do it at the moment.

That's exactly what I did, Phantom, although I didn't swallow have to swallow my pride... I gladly did it. To me it's not different than grinding slice or spice.

/yell Slicing LOCKED CONTAINERS Free!! 100% Guarentee!!

/yell Slicing LOCKED Containers FREE!! 1000credits if fail!!

Now, if someone brought me a container that was already a failed slice (couldn't be sliced... perm locked), I'd feel guilty because if they truly didn't know it was perm locked, how do they know I didn't perm lock it? So I would give them the 1000 creds. I still slice containers. I'm working on slice 4, and Let me tell you, the 250xp you get from the container, using one clamp, is much cheaper than using a WUK and a clamp for weapons. Have fun... I sure am!

I got real lucky was going to the trainer in Mos Eisley to acutally get my Novice tag and killed the Swoop leader right next to the trainer and looted a container. I then went to Coronet, where I was going to work on my spices and just put out that I was slicing containers. I had one person tell me for help, he had 4. Before I had finished those 4, someone did a search and asked if I could slice a container for them. Up to six at this time and then I had someone who gave me 8 containers to slice, so in the span of grinding my spice to level 2, I had 14 containers. Just a few more and on to terminals.

But yes, it does seem to take away from the seedier side of being a smuggler, but you have to do what you have to do.Unfortunately that being the case, you do have to go out there and shout out your lungs to get containers. All I ever see on the Tempest Bazaar is unlocked containers, but I do keep looking anyway.

It's ok, terminals are just as bad. They only give 100xp per slice every 2 mins.

Yeah, but I can ALWAYS find a half dozen terminals to slice. And for fun, slice a mission term take a cpl missions for the pistol xp and get some cash.

Yeah.. but if you don't use a clamp, then you can't guarentee a mission slice.. and for grinding slices.. slicing terms STINKS! So... I went back to slicing containers. I still slice EVERY term I take a mission from, but its so hit or miss without the pricy clamps, it's really a pain... well for me it was. I love smuggling!

Whenever I'm running around town I'll slice a terminal if I pass by one. I don't use clamps or FANs, they aren't worth the cost for terminalsIMO. I usually pick the blue wire, and so far my success rate has been pretty good, maybe around 65% (I'm not saying I'll be able to do this consistently over the long haul, just saying that so far I've had good luck with it).

Still, terminals are no way to grind slicing xp, just takes too long. After I got to Slicing II, I bought some clamps and then emptied the bazaar of all the cheap crappy CDEF pistols and wood staffs and used them to grind to Slicing III. Now I do factory runs of survival knives and FANs and am about half way to Slicing IV.

I've been stashing all the CDEF (whatevers) I get as loot now in my basement, knowing the weapon grind was coming. Not sure what I'll do with armor aside from maybe get myself a full suit of ST armor and slice it as I go...

Except that I have no entire days off in the forseeable future I'm hoping to make slicer short... want to get master asap too.

It seems to me that Slicing and Spice Crafting xp are easy to get. What takes a long time, at least for me, is the pistol xp. Being a weaponsmith too doesn't help, because I spend a lot of free time checking resources and grinding up in that too (though there are WS xp advantages to handcrafting my own WUK's).

Once you hit Slice II, slicing is relatively easy. You can craft your own weapons (IE: CDEFs) and slice them for fast XP. With all the crafting you'll do, you'll hit Engineering IV pretty quickly and can start working towards Novice Weaponsmith (where you can make your own WUKs).

BUT, getting past the container bottleneck is a HUGE pain in the ass. I knew I was going to go smuggler, so Isaved up a TON of containers, back when they used to drop from mobs. They don't seem to drop anymore, and I think someone needs to bring this to the devs' attention.

Your best bet here is to continue slicing cheap weapons, as you don't need to slice any armor at all to get through the tree. Either will give you the same 250 xp. Best thing is to hook up with a artisan with an equipment factory to make you crates of survival knives. That's a cheap, potential 6,250 xp in each crate. I highly suggest using clamps on them if you want to advance fast. Say a crate of clamps costs 10K. That's 10K for 6,250 guaranteed xp. A =great= tradeoff, if you ask me. Sure it's sort of a waste and a expense short-term, but OTOH, you'll use a lot fewer WUKs and PLKs on failed slices =and= you'll reach your goal faster.

Good luck!

Another thing I have noticed as just a lowly novice. Make sure you keep your novice smuggler tag on. I have had 3 tells from people that needed containers sliced and they said they found me from the people search.

I just finished off the container grind due to a nice individual who gave me my last 3 containers I needed and said to keep them because they have junk in them anyway. So I am on to the terminals, once I get trained anyway, but I will still do containers as others have suggested for the better exp. I just want be so active in trying to find them.

And just as nice, I had one person tip me after slicing 3 containers for him, even after I told him it was free and guaranteed.

Hrm...I should turn on that title thingummy then you're saying?

Makes sense really. I search for Smugglers by profession when looking to buy clamps, why should non-smugs not use the search option to find us. Fair.
