Here's the problem I see with requiring Master Entertainer for anything combat-related: It's a catch-allprofession, not a unified profession. With a profession like Scout or Medic, all of the skill boxes you get relate back to what it means to be a scout or a medic. But as an entertainer, there are three speicifc, separate, and wholly dissimilar abilities that are represented by the profession as a whole. (If I had my druthers, Master Entertainer would give no benefit whatsoever, since there's little point in being a musical, dancing hairstylist. They don't compliment one another.)
A master Brawler and master Entertainer requirement for a new elite profession (like the Gladiator idea) just doesn't make sense to me. I understand that in theory, gladiators play to the crowds to entertain folks. But why on earth would a gladiator learn how to color people's hair or play the slitherhorn? I could see the one entertainment healing line being a requirement for something like this, but absolutely not the master Entertainer level. Maybe the dancing line too, if it fits how the profession is built.
Some Gladiator ideas: (someone give me the thread where this originated please, so I can post these there instead)
Requires: Master Brawler, Dancing IV, Entertainer Healing IV
Novice level: Second Attack skill (allows you to inflict damage via a second, less-damaging and less-accurate attack, using your body, a free fist, or a second weapon if you have one in hand - allows you to wield a second weapon such as a vibro knuckler or another one-handed weapon)
Charge command (like a short-duration Burst Run, but used as an attack - this charges your character at the opponent and deals a more lethal blow with a chance to knock them down. The attack looks like the gladiator takes a running leap into battle.)
Battle Rage command (using sheer force of will and the love of combat, gladiators can boost their secondary stats by 15-45% for short durations. This also gives them an increased defense to state effects while making them easier to hit.)
Fatigue Reduction (Gladiators gain battle fatigue much slower than other professions. At master level, a gladiator who's engaged in the same activities as someone with 500 fatigue will have merely 200 fatigue.)
Skill Line I: Dual-wield line - As you gain ranks in this skill, the accuracy and damage penalty for your second attack is lessened. This line would include a Flurry attack, which actually deals multiple hits in very rapid succession (instead of just looking like it does, as with many other specials)
Skill Line II: Damage Avoidance line - Gladiator Armor would need to be added to the game. It is medium-encumbering but low-affectiveness armor (around Membari level or less - it's not useful for most people). This line improves a gladiator's ability to use this armor affectively, giving the gladiator a protection boost when wearing this armor. The end result should allow a Master Gladiator to wearonly gladiator armor and be almost as well-protected as someone in full composite.
Skill Line III: Hybrid Weapons line - gives the gladiator certifications for using some new, creative-looking weapons. (polearms with chained balls on the ends, spiked boots, whips, punch daggers, head spikes, nunchucks, various thrown weapons, etc). This would also include specials that apply specifically to hybrid weapons, sunch as lunge and stun attacks. Some of these weapons can be built with poisons, dealing a certain limited number of DOT attacks for the weapon.
Skill Line IV: Showmanship line - While in battle, those grouped with a gladiator gain a reduction to their battle fatigue gain. Also, gladiators can enact mock battles as a new type of dance, to heal wounds and enhance stats. However, because of the combative nature of the gladiator's mock battle dance, all stats are enhanced, not just mind. At Showmanship I this bonus is a 10% bonus to all stats. At master, the bonus is 30%.The duration for this enhancement is less than that of a Dancer or Musician enhancement, lasting only 45 minutes as the maximum duration.
This line also includes special attacks:
FlankingTumble (allows the gladiator to tumble to the other side of his opponent, giving him an increased chance to dodge for5 seconds.)
Victory Cry (the gladiator pretends to ignore the opponent to show off his victory to anyone around, drawing an attack from the opponent as with a taunt. However, this is a calculated move, and the gladiator being ready for the attack, gains a bonus to a counterattack chance for 5 seconds and gains increased accuracy and damage on the next 3 attacks.)
Master Gladiator: Includes the commands Berserk 3, Intimidate 3, Warcry 3. The master gladiator is the best there is at causing fear in his opponents.
