As for all you Tera Kasi who reached that level without VKs, I am happy for you, but it is not the point.

But with 2 days of casual 3-4 hours you will be done and you won't have to complain anymore. Suck it up. Trudge on.
This is complete and utter bullcrap I am a casual gamer and I play 3 days a week, which is only play 12 to 15 hours per week if I am lucky and it has taken me 1 month to get to Master Unarmed Specialization. I would say that I worked hard for it. Now just because so kid play all fricken day for 18 hours stratight and make Tera Kasi Master in 2 days, does not mean this system is wrong. This game is about fun and not about a life project to become the character you want to be.
BTW "Spaz_Hairlip" should not be sacked, HE SHOULD BE SHOT!
Said it before I'll say it again. This change is stupid and the VK cert should come at expert unarmed not TKN. Very shortly after you hit TKA you'll realize that you can have a far greater damage output with specials moves at a much lower HAM cost without the VKs. At Expert Power Techniques even a non-trandoshan is faster without VKs than with. Using VKs at that level all special moves will do MORE damage to yourself than to your target.
Pesonally I'd like to see VKs removed completely and TKAs just given another damgae modifier or two to compensate.
Gee and all this time I thought it was UNARMED combat. They increased the damage of UNARMED moves becauseit is UNARMED combat. A vibro knuckle should be considered one armed as far as I'm concerned because you are talking about UNARMED combat.
Did I mention it was UNARMED combat?
besides it's not like the devs do EVERYTHING we say. It's not like 1 person says 1 time "take away our knuckles" and the devs say "oh yes sir right away sir".
If that's the case then next month when the next correspondant comes along and says "give us back our knuckles" the devs will say "sir, yes sir, right away sir".
The devs have brains also. . . they are not mindless drones that do only what the player correspondant tells them to. This is probably something they were considering. In my opinion having a VK right out of the box made UNARMED too easy. With every other type of combat ranged and melee trying to get the first box is a pain because of the nature of your inexperience with the weapon EXCEPT unarmed with a VK. With a VK I was able to get unarmed 2 in about 20 minutes when it took 1-2 hours with any other type of combat ranged or melee.
As someone who is currently slogging through the Unarmed tree with NO intent of doing TKA, I have a perspective to impart here.
I tend to agree that having the best Unarmed weapon available at the lowest level takes away from the accomplishment of getting better and better certifications - like the ranged & melee weapon classes. I think the real issue isn't that we no longer have VKs to work with, but that we have NOTHING between empty hands and VKs to work up the skill with. Some Stun-Knuckers, Bladed-Gauntlets, Shock-Gloves, Studded-Cestus - to fill the gap would be nice.
Now, I'm hating this particular slog because I never wanted to be a melee character in the 1st place - in fact, from what I can remember from the movies (I have a very good memory), every time Han Solo didn't have a blaster in his hand, he got his ass handed to him - cleary he was NOT a master/specialist in unarmed combat.
...but that's a rant for the Smuggler section...
Back to the issue at hand - I didn't notice blazing piles of exp dropping at my feet with VKs and I'm still doing reasonable damage (over double the standard swing) with them un-certified.
First of all, stop blaming the correspondant for doing his job. The problem was brought up numerous times in the forums and he was just reporting it to the devs. It's the devs who made the final decision.
Second, your complaints are miguided (I'm being kind here). UNARMED does not mean "has a weapon". It means "does not have a weapon".If you want to suggest they change the unarmed branch to something else, like "martial-art-style-weapons", then make that suggestion. But don't complain when your unarmed fighter can't use a weapon. Otherwise you may as well complain that your brawler can't use a laser rifle without a penalty, or that your master 1-handed brawler can't use a poleaxe very well.
Third, it's not only the people who've already hit TKA that wanted the change. I'm still barely into unarmed 3 and I asked for it too. What you people should be doing is directing your energy towards complaining about how crappy unarmed fighters are without weapons (as they should be) and asking them to focus on fixing that problem, rather than asking for weapons you shouldn't be using.
Honestly, let me see if I understand the logic.
We, the Brawlers, don't want to be able to use Vk because it is a weapon and Brawlers who go unarmed should not use weapons. That's why we'd like you to make it an exclusive weapon of the TKA's who are, um unarmed?
It is deeply ironic as well that by asking for this nerf, the TKAs got just what they asked for and while having something added to them, got somethign FAR WORSE taken away -- KD. Bird in the hand perhaps?
If you want to make the game harder for yourselves, fine.Don't use knucklers. But to make it that much harder for others? (Particularly when the game is already biased in favor of range?)
Truly, what TKA should have asked for is something FAR MORE SPECIAL -- like a ranged attack. How about some kind of martial art Chi thing? Doesn't have to conflict with Jedi if done properly. Or if confined to weapons, why not a special TK weapon that is NEW? Bolas/Nunchaku/Sai/anything?
If anyone is interested, I dug up the original text from Spaz_Hairlip about what he submitted to the devs:
Pet Peeve: Vibro Knucklers
I was allowed to post one pet peeve that was not included in the top 5 issues list, so here it goes. Vibro Knucklers, you know I love them, but a newbie Brawler just out of “Killer Kawalski’s School of Head Stomp” can easily equip them and become a damage machine. This is essentially like giving any other combat class their best weapon as soon as they leave the shuttle port. It also gives the unarmed Brawler and potential TKA no future weapon upgrades to look forward to.
There should be certifications for them just like there are for every other weapon. Brass knucklers, hardened iron knucklers, vibro knucklers, then disruptor knucklers. Something that scales as the unarmed Brawler advances, without giving them their ‘Ace’ up the sleeve from day one and giving them advancements to look forward too.
Looks to me like the devs made the decision to have no other weapons. He suggested having multiple weapons with certifications. Read the second paragraph.
So stop blaming Spaz already. He did a great job collecting and presenting the information. The devs/designers are the ones to blame.
