Thread: Locked Containers

I know I never bought a container, I am gifted with a good PA and good neighbors (our city have a city chat, that help a lot create a good "neighborhood" feeling)

I never sell them either, I gave to a novice smuggler not long ago the containers I had remeaning and the crate of grinding knives I still had in my bank. I added two crates of WUK and mol clamps for good measure. Ok, I don't always donate tools ,but I was in good mood and he was nice.

I could make cash selling tools on my vendors, but I would feel weird doing that. Helping a nice Novice is one thing, massively supplying in tools a bunch of my future competitors is another. "wink" Also, I get my tools free from a deal with a WS, and I guess I would feel a tad...dishonest, having him make me more tools only to put them on sale. Ok, so maybe "unsmugglerish" of me. lol

I have an all-purpose Merchant alt...with Novice WS and Novice AS...

I have vendors for Clamps, PLKs, WUKs, AUKs, and Grinding supplies.

I use Dreven to make the schem for the Clamps, then just drop it on a vendor for Tristyn to pick up and run through a factory.

On the Grinding vendor, I have crates of survival knives and any Locked Containers I happen to loot (LCs listed for 1 cred).

Tristyn is also a Smuggler 4/0/0/0 and Lt. Colonel (soon to be full Colonel) to assist me with FP transfers and Imperial surplus purchases.

Last I looked I got 100 xp for slicing a container.

When I started my toon (goal to be -and I made it- a Master Ranger) last year I used to sell the containers on the bazaar for 6k. The containers usuallydidn't stay there for long.

The I realized that I was ripping off new players bycharging for them. I decided to save them for novice smugglers. I was also at alevel that I didn't fiond that many. I gave about 40or so to a new novice smuggler in my guild.

When I started theslicing tree grind I refused to buy containers.

My reasoning was why pay thousands of credits for a container that gave mea measly 100 XP when I could slice a weapon and get 250 XP. I found that there was enough CDEF and other weapons on sale on the bazaar for 1 credit to complete the tree.

If you have containers donate them to a novice. Yoiu might just make a friend.

i just finished the slicing tree a few days ago and i did buy some containers, but only if they were listed for under 1k. you can find them, but its not easy.
i made sure to slice everything that came out of them too, and sold the cdef on the bazaar for usually 100cr.

the last 4 or 5 days before i got it finished, i would buy all the weapons that were less than 50cr off the bazarr in whatever city i happened to go to. made it pretty easy to finish. i spammed a bit and got a bit of business waiting for shuttles and healing in the cantina or med center.

this should probably be in the chuckle thread, but about half way through slicing 2, i was still spamming for containers and had a person say he had quite a few, would i open them all for some architect items.
so i said sure, and off we went to his vendor where he was selling them for 3k i believe.
anyway, turned out he had 87 of them.
at first i thought, great!! lots of xp. then after i did about 10 of them i was not really looking forward to finishing the job. it took about an hour but i finished them all. found about 5 more inside to make the total 92 containers for him.
he offered me 100k worth of his architect stuff, so i was pretty happy with that. he had left to go make harv runs while i finished the last 30 or so and when i finished i started to look through his vendors to see what he had. i planned on getting some harvs so i could start mining stuff to make spice. i figured a medium flora, mineral, and maybe a chem, some furniture or a small house, since i didnt have one yet.
i had an order in with an architect already for all the harvs i needed and figured id sell the ones on order when i got them, if i didnt still need them, so no loss there.

as i start looking, his prices seem average, 35k-ish for mediums, 100k for some heavies, then i actually look at the stats, heavy mineral - 100k - ber 8, medium mineral - 35k - ber 6.
now im thinking, oh great, im screwed, ill never be able to sell any of this stuff.
i ended up getting a couple of small houses and an equipment factory for my trouble, i live in one of the houses now and make my smuggler tools with the factory, and i sold the other house for 6k on the bazaar. not the best profit ive ever made but i still got a bunch of xp.

side note, maybe just a bug, but when i qualified for slicing 2, it capped at the box level of 10k instead of double.
i figured i would just wait to train till i sliced everything, give my guildmates a chance for ap.
i just had an odd feeling and checked my xp, i had stopped gaining. there was a trainer in the mall where i was slicing, so it wasnt a big deal really, just the 8k or whatever it was to train, but if i hadnt checked, i would have lost a bunch of xp, about 12-15k worth. i never had a problem like that at any of the other boxes, just level 2.

Bug fixes. Heh! Smuggling. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things.

My SWG Observations

If they stopped the expansions for one year and gave quality revamps to the professions that need it most, many people would resubscribe.
With all the resubs, and the new players, there would then be plenty of money to hire enough people to do 2-4 quality revamps per year plus 1-2 larger expansions per year and/or 2-4 smaller expansions per year, and not give the BigWigs a pay cut. (Possibly even an increase)

250 XP for Containers (unless something has seriously changed recently)

100 XP for Terminals

250 XP for Weapons and Armor

I remember back in the day when I used to beg in Anchorhead by the shuttleport for containers... fun sh*t.

I have been grinding Smuggler on and off for about a week and a half. I bought most of my containers for 2k or less from the bazaar... I have slicing 3 and am working on 4, but in that time the best loot, among about 6 CA's / AA's I found, was a +3 Musical Mind enhancement tape. I did find a dress shirt that had a +3 Def Vs. Knockdown as well.

From reading the above, I feel my luck is Extraordinary!

I believeI have the lowest price on all smuggler items on Tempest. I sell the containers for what i buy them for. But also, I loot about 25 everyday, they are so easy to get. Usual prices are 5k to 6k. If you want me to sell for 1 credit, i'd rather just destroy them. You don't have to pay the price. And if they aren't selling well then i might mark them down to 1k or so.

Selling containers for thousands of credits is nothing short of extortion.
Smugglers are the only profession gated by the loot table in this fashion. (Other than Jedi, and I could care less if the drop rate on crystals went through the floor...less glowy sticks would be a good thing.)
Would you pay 3000 creds for 250 XP?
I didn't think so.
You got the container for free. Help out a Novice Smuggler and donate containers for free. Or if you want to sell them on a vendor, at least mark them for 1 credit.

I agree that it's extortion, but that's a free-market economy for you. Every time someone clicks 'buy', they set the value.
Jedi get extorted between 100x and 1000x worse, depending on the galaxy. Regardless of how you feel about the class, when a profession is gated by a loot drop, it's lousy. I guess it's the military version of crappy resource spawns, but it still sucks.

You would think they would put something extra in some of these containers other than CDEF pistols and Towel Wraps for your head, Being a smuggler from since begining of the game I can say to get something worth while is 1 out of 200 locked containers but not something WOW ever. You would think they would make a smuggler worthwhile by putting something in them so a smuggler could make a living but NO. Well heres to some smuggler love. HELL we need some.
