Folks like me do not get to make those kind of calls. People who script/code are very similar to plumbers. If the bosses wants us to put a toilet in the center of the living room, we redirect the pipes, dig a hole and install that toilet in the center of the living room. I may be able to put one of those cakes in it that turns the water blue, but that toilet is going in the center of the living room.
Which is EXACTLY the point. When people here jump on Tiggs and the Devs, they are jumping on the WRONG people. The PRODUCERS (Julio Torres being #1 on my list) are the ones responsible for the idiotic changes, and the even worse "release NOW, fix MAYBE" schedule.

Oh man, now I have to explain how that toilet got there with the pretty blue water. =P
noone wants to know where it came from! we want to know how we can see pretty blue water in a toilet but not in any of the architect crafted fountains beside the circular fountain, whose water looks exactly like the bluetoiletwater.

Tiggs, we jst want to know who ordered them to put the toilet there, why said person thought the toilet needed to be there, and their plans for the rest of the house...
The rest of the house is still under discussion. The toilet works better there and compliments the garage that will be moved their next. =P
Maybe a year ago Tiggs, that would have been amusing. But these days, im just having a real sense of humour failure

Truly. Who among the producers of this game will stand up and say:
"I really felt we needed to change the rules, AGAIN, after 2 weeks since the last changes, and completely devalue the templates people have worked on for 6 months plus."

This makes sense. However, it sounds like there is a disconnect between the player base and the 'bosses' you speak of. If theonly people we are able to speak with are the 'plumbers' then we have a serious problem.
Borrowing from your analogy, usually on a job like this, there is an interior decorator or designer that advises the 'bosses' as to what will work and what will not. I see alot of titles that equate to designer and boss:
SpaceRancoraka Eli Holding, Lead designer for Trials of Obi-Wan
Rogue5 akaGrantMcDaniel,SOE Producer for Star Wars Galaxies
Shadowbrak aka Travis Hicks, Content designer for The Trials of Obi-Wan
Here are just a few people that should have an influence on the game design or as you say, where the toilet goes.
Is anyone communicating with these folks to let them know what is happening in the community? That there is 'rioting in the streets'?
Blixtev you may be the plumber, but you are not mute. Help us help you make SWG a better than great game. Listen to us and persuade the bosses to listen to you.
It is all on you shoulders. We are all counting on you. Do not let Spectre win!LOL j/k. I just had to add that in.
I hope you reply to this.
Thanks.

This whole analogy with the toilet isn't a good one. There's alot more to building a house. Plumbers have to follow rules, building codes. On a house the size of SWG, other outside agencies would come to see everything is ok before the building could be occupied (ie Health Inspector). This building was already occupied, before the toilets were in place and working.
There are no checks and balances here. Testcenter, its ignored. Bugs go to live anyhow. We, as players have a right to be mad, we pay, we play, we get nerfed, we suffer more bugs, yet we never get any answers from anyone.
Bottomline, someone in SOE isn't doing thier job. Atleast very well.
My new analogy is Smedly just bending over and taking a big dump on us. Thats where the buck is suppose to stop, and he's the one that should take full responsibilty for the state this game is in.
Yeah...that would go great with my expresso/coffe maker already by my computer. Just don't confuse your "lazy bowl" with my "lazy pot" water tank.

OK, I had to say this, and if someone already did, I apologzie but it just means we have the same greatness.
The Boss = SoE Brass (got that)
The Toilet = SWG in it's current state
The Cake = The latest expantion to make the toilet, er, game look better
The Flush = When SoE pulls the plug on this game within the next few months due to a diminshing playerbase due to the lack of customer service, endless nerfs and BugWare, and most of all, and I know I said it already - The lack of CUSTOMER SERVICE.
omg. is this true? a dev chimes in and compares the game to the crapper? ROFL.

Nice read.
I don't agree or disagree. I don't think the game is completely ruined... but it has no doubt fallin short of our expectations over the years. SWG is the most massive game out there imo. Almost too massive. Maybe that in itself is the problem. Inventory levels are insane and the player econemy, although a brilliant idea to begin with, has not been kept in check.
It appears to me, that SOE has tried many new breakthroughs when it comes to MMORPG's. Problem is, although some have been a success, many have not gone well. Take some examples:
1. SWG's oringinal combat system was a very aggressive undertaking. A wide variety of damage types, special attacks that had a large range of effects, powerful states, extremely powerful dots, and the ability to defense stackwith other professions. Almost no limit on damage potential and equipement for new players. So aggressive they couldn't balance it effectively so they totally change the game with the combat upgrade. After two years, they totally change a combat system in a game that hundreds of thousands of people subscribe to. A breakthrough in the MMORPG world, and whether it has been a success or not is largely debated... which means that is has not been truly successful despite how you feel personally.
2. SWG's crafting system and player ran econemy totally destroys any other game's system that I have played. The reliance on crafters has went down recently with new looted items, but the player base does rely on them heavily still. In crafting the strive to get good resources. The fact that those resources are unique and will not always be available. Whether you want to be "lazy" and not go for the amazing successes when experimenting on a factory schematic. As time went by, they added many looted components and tied in other crafting professions to each other like Chef and BE. The drawbacks, and where they have failed in the player econemy, is that they dont have enough credits disappearing to keep up with the credits that keep entering into the econemy. Although I cannot stand the "harvestor" idea and I know I'm not alone in that view, I think most admit that SWG's crafting system has been a success. The econemy has also been a success, but has been allowed to inflate way too high.
3. Introducing an "Elite Class" into the game with Jedi. This is the most debated thing about SWG. It is Star Wars, and you need Jedi in Star Wars. And, they also need to be more powerful then a normal class. However it should be more difficult to achieve and keep that power. The biggest problems with Jedi in SWG, is that they were oringinally intented to be rare and extremely difficult to maintain. That is what all of us old-timers beleived and were told countless times. However, most of us also said, "Well I'm gonna be one, I'll be one of the rare Jedi". And the determination of the Star Wars fan was gravely underestimated. The game turned into the Holo Grinduntil they finally gave in and let everyone have a Jedi despite the fact they were supposed to be special and rare. Not to mention that are rare or completely in hiding during this time period in the saga. My feeling is, if you are going to have an elite class, you should have a variety. Why they never introduced other elite classes like Mandalorians or cyborgs is beyond my understanding. The Jedi elite class has not been succussful in SWG.
4. Jump to Lightspeed introduced two completely different playing styles into one MMORPG. It ties a Space flight sim into a ground base RP game. Two completely different gaming systems. The space missionsand quests aredone well and although the actually fighting experience is on par, many people that play RP games don't really like going up in space and dogfighting. It just isn't their style. Maybe if space was tied into the ground game more, those that are not big fanswould eventually get to know space and be comfortable with it. But all in all, I'd have to say that Jump to Lightspeed was a success despite the lack of interest there is with it.
5. Total Non Combat / Non Crafting Professions were also a breakthrough for SWG. Entertaining professions which were oringinally intended to appeal to chat room lovers that wanted a world they could emmerse themselves into at the same time. Problem with this is that most people aren't going tospend $15 a month to be in a pretty chat room. Hence, most entertainers are now additional accounts of other players that just want a "buff bot" since the real entertainers have left and moved on. All we have now are AFK alts of someone else running on a macro. There is no entertainment with these toons. This has not been a successful breakthrough for SWG.
So there you have it. SWG has been a "testing ground" for SOE and the MMORPG industry. The "Lets try to do this and see if it works" attitude has not payed off for this game in the long run. However, it has no doubt payed off for other game formats that SOE, Blizzard, or any other gaming company has in the works. They can take lessons from SWG's failures and successes. Meanwhile the game we love continues to grow further from what we want it to be.
