Thread: Disarming Shot

HEY!!! Uh, this seems pretty important to this point...
I see npcs put away their guns and put up thier dukes ALL THE TIME without EVER using disarmingshot.
Maybe if we really want to find out if this is really working we better find some numbers on how often this happens, because 3% or 5% or what ever it is seems prettty broken.
I have never ever seen that happen in the 5 months I've been playing this game. Not to mention, that it would be an awfully huge coincidence that 4 of the 7 NPCs I was fighting happened to drop their weapons almost instantaneously after I used DisarmingShot.
Well, I guess you don't have to believe me, but I know what I see.

I didn't say that I don't believe you. I just said that this has never happened to me, and that I'm 100% positive that my DisarmingShot is what caused the NPC's to drop their guns.
If you DO see an NPC drop his gun for no reason, as you said you've seen, then be sure to screenshot it right away! You should /bug the problem (if you haven't already), and also post about it on these forums (with the screenshot as your proof that it happens). I'm not sure what forum that would go in, since it would be a problem that effects everyone not just Pistoleers.
So, again, this has just never happened to me. If it happens to you, then do your best to let the Devs know! Maybe it's a bug, or maybe it turns out there's an actual reason for it.

1 & 2 are still broke, PvP wise anyway
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised at that. I've never tried it in PvP, but really just because it so rarely works against NPCs and does so little damage that trying it in (serious) PvP seemed like too much of a risk.
But, when I go in and play today I'll try it out some more in PvE and let people in on my results. I still get a kick out of DisarmingShot when it actually does work, just the NPC standing there clueless is too funny ![]()
You've got to be joking right? I mean seriously, there's a discussion on this subject (with the exact same title: Disarming Shot) going on already and it's only 3 threads below yours. It hasn't even fallen below the 10th thread on the page, so it would not have taken any effort to find the thread and enter the discussion. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just a bit annoyed (thanks to some other user) and I'm just pointing out that you should look for similar discussions before starting a whole new thread.
Here's a link to the current DisarmingShot discussion: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=pistoleer&message.id=29717

I'll test Disarming Shot 2 later when I get on. Maybe Disarm I doesn't work, but Disarm 2 does?
Are you going to test it in PvP or PvE?
The tests I ran were PvE tests of DisarmingShot1, and I was able to successfully disarm my opponents (even if the % success was really crappy, it at least worked). I haven't tested DisarmingShot1 in PvP though, and I'm not a Master Pistoleer so I can't test DisarmingShot2 in either PvE or PvP.
But either way, post any data you collect ![]()
I don't think it has much to do with Disarming Shot. I've seen NPCs drop their ranged weapon and go into melee mode and just stand there for a bit a fair bit. Just today when I was killing several stranded Imperial NPCs on Yavin one, that I remember, I hit with Stopping Shot and he got up from prone, took a melee stance without his rifle and just stood there for a few seconds as I shot him. After a bit he re-equiped his rifle and started to fire on me again.
If I had to say what it was, I'd say it an AI glitch that occurs or maybe some sort of server lag where the NPC thinks you're in melee range.

As I said to Jakesnake:

If it happened that only one of the NPCs happened to drop his weapon right after I used DisarmingShot1, then I might say it was a coincidence, but when this happens against 4 out of the 7 NPCs I try this on you can conclude (with relative certainty) that DisarmingShot1 is what caused them to drop their guns.
I plan on testing it out much more, and I'm sure Philosopher will be running tests too. The only reason I posted the data I did was to show people that DisarmingShot1 does work. How often and how well it works are things that we still need to determine.
If you do see NPCs dropping their weapons for no apparent reason, then be sure to /bug it, screenshot it and post it on the forums for the Devs to see, or whatever it takes. I'm willing to bet this is a bug, but I can assure you that it was not what happened in my tests. Again, it would just be too much of a coincidence.
