Thread: Jedi
See but thats where the problem is.
Some of you folks think you're paying for the chance to become a Jedi. Thats all you're here for.
Theres a pretty big game out there beyond the Jedi part of it.
And they have to limit it. They have to. Jedi's should be a very powerful gambit in a PvP situation. And if everyones a Jedi...thats meaningless. Its a complete antithesis to the entire Star Wars Universe, even in an Old Republic or Expanded Universe version of it.
You're not paying your monthly fee for the right to be a Jedi. You're paying your monthly fee for the right to play at all.
And I'm not saying that ACCOUNTS should be tagged as force sensitive or not. What I'm saying is that CHARACTERS should be. So if you go through the dynamic quest as described, but you fail to become aware of the Force after it comes to its conclusion...you've got the choice to go on being yourself...or start another character and try again. Ergo a base number of active Jedi plus a small allowance monthly for new FS designated characters. So yes...the jedi population slowly grows..but its not a simple case of everyone getting hand walked through the same unchanging quest by their guild mates so each guild has 40 or 50 Jedi at its beck and call.
I don't think my idea is too realistic at all. I think its immersive and far truer to the lore of the Star Wars Universe....than just having a quest that'll be on Allakhazam's within a day of release and having a 10 to 1 ratio of jedi to non-jedi on every server.

Nope, master 5 random professions. You can use up to 4 holocrons (only one at a time) to tell you what 4 of them are and you have to just guess until you hit the 5th. There is no pattern or method to determine the 5th, it's completely random.
well, lets clarify:
You have to master 5 specific professions, not random ones. The trick, you wont know which specific profession you need! The selection of the 5 professions are randomly generated at character creation.
The holocrons will give you the hint of one of the specific professions. Untill that profession listed is mastered, any further holocrons will not give any other hints other than the first.
But, this may all be moot with the next publish (which I for one, applaud...)
The game was being ruined by people "being forced (lol)" into "grinding" professions.
As I hear, the new system will be more quest orientated. More to follow...

Not interested in Jedi, and selling his holocrons to prove it.
they shouldnt do anything limiting the numbers of players who can open the force sensitive slot, that being said because i want to play around with the jedi. (who knows if i will really want to play it long term or not)
now that i said that dont freak, they should make it difficult to play the jedi as they really are hunter and oppressed to the max. it should be hard to climb the jedi tree and the loss of skill is a good start. some other changes to make people think hard about playing a jedi once open is needed.
dont go around criticizing others because they want to play a jedi.
the devs could of gotten all this out of the system by allowing a jedi profession in the beta tests and letting us play with it to see if we really wanted to pursue it full time. but they kept it all to themselves one must wonder why they did that. maybe because playing with lightsabres is fun.
Guys,
I agree with TheBeast on limiting the numbers of jedi. The box says you have equal chance, it doesn't mean everyone WILL become one. Just think about the lottery, you have equal chance there too. And those who play this game to become jedi, well, I don't understand those people. There are a ton of single player games out there that you can buy and become a jedi in them... The whole Kyle Katarn series, the KOTOR game, etc. Don't think for ONE SECOND everyone will be allowed a jedi slot as this game is set after the destruction of the first Death Star and you did not see a jedi at every corner in the movies either.

The jedi system will change and change for one reason,
This will be to keep as many people happy as possible, the reason for this is not to keep you moaners happy but to keep old and create new accounts.
If you really feel and think that they will limit Jedi then Your living in dream world IMO Jedi system will change and change for one reason, Whatever Makes the company the most Money!!
They can change the process of becoming Force Sensitive all they want. Unless they make the process of actually leveling the Jedi professions many people will eventually quit.
I have just started my FS character and already it has changed my outlook on the Jedi in the game as it stands now. I will by no means quit but I will never grind it out like I did a few of the professions I did to get here. Just to complete 3 of the 4 skill trees in the Padawan professionyou need 4,920,000 Jedi XP. Jedi Xp is the same as Combat XP or 10% of weapons XP. Thats 49,200,000 Onehanded Saber XP just to get to the master box. Then you need an additional 1,500,000 Jedi XP instead of apprenticepoints to complete the master box, and this is just to become a Padawan. You still have 2 more profession tree's with alot more XP to get to Jedi Master.
Currently the only way to safely earn XP is killing anything and everything on isolated planets for hours on end. Even if they added quest's within the Jedi progression they would most likely be completed fairly quickly and leave players back to killing random stuff isolated from the rest of the population.
The new perma-death changes may help a little as players will be able to participate more in other parts of the game without fear of loosing their character to the 3 death rule. These new changes will not however change how fast a player will level the professions. If a player grinds fast and hard on tough creatures they risk more death and having to take a break so they can gain back a death or 2 otherwise they risk losing skill box's and thats alot of xp to lose.
You may see more people make Initiate but you will not see near as many go all the way to Jedi Master.
Evanight,
To be honest, if someone is living in a dream-world then it must be you. Sony bought a license for an online game from Lucas, meaning they have someone else decide what they put into the game, and what not. And since we ALL know jedi were not commonin the movies, I just don't see too many jedi happening ingame either. You'll just have to live with the thought of only having a selected few becoming jedi.

It does not matter that Sony bought the licence from Lucas, at the end of the day I am stating that in no way will they make changes that they feel would close accounts, the full stop is there running a business, and running it to make money.
Again this is only my opinion
I think that every one plays SWG to experience the SW universe in one way or another. The chance to be any character wheter it be jedi, or Doctor, or smuggler, or Comando should be the same for every one.
The system that needss to be fixed is the way one progresses as a jedi. Jedi are all unique individuals in as much as a character picking smuggler/medic/comando might be. Jedis should have diferent skills to progress in not a set tree. Such as Mind powers, healing powers, precognition powers, athletic powers, combat skills, well you get the picture. Theres diferent saber styles. Twin bladed, polearm sabers, weilding two single sabers, and so on. There should be a way that a "jedi" pick diferent skills and progress on those skills. Such as you might want to develop some dark force powers such as life drain or force lighting, but by doing so you eliminate the abiliity to do light force powers such as healing and such. Make it unique! that way if there are many jedi running around then they will all have different skills in that profession.
Opening the force sensitive slot should only be ginven to those characters who have begun their holo quests. New gamers should only be allowed one character at a time, this way all the holo grinders will be rewarded for their hard work. Just my thoughts.............
