Thread: So I was thinking: Who actually ruined the game.
You know what, I respect you for writing this...I GET IT...I fear that soon you will be looking for a new game to code and I will be looking for a new game to enjoy...both of us will land on our feet my friend.....I spit on the people who have run a game I have invested almost 3 years of my life into...including beta...my first game of this type/perhaps my last...learned a lot about how these people do their business and i'm not impressed...THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HONESTY

Folks like me do not get to make those kind of calls. People who script/code arevery similar toplumbers. If the bosses wantsus to put a toilet in the center of the living room, we redirect the pipes, dig a hole and install that toilet in the center of the living room. I may be able to put one of those cakes in it that turns the water blue, but that toilet is going in the center of the living room.
The game isn't dead, but it's headed that way with the constant nerfing of professions and the increase in bugs that do not get fixed. There were bad decisions made for an online game at the very onset. Perma-death and experience loss being one. Anyone that has played online games know that the majority of players do not like either of those. And I can understand that. If you have limited time to play, you don't want to be working yourself back to where you have been all the time. Those two items will always disappear from any game when the player base becomes saturated. Look on UO. I played UO for over 5 years. They had to add Trammel to continue their growth...A consensual only PvP area (some say it's Non-pvp, but that's not true...because guild wars and consentual pvp is allowed there). The growth of UO took off like a wild fire at this time. Then they began the nerfing, the introduction of uber items (making the game an item based game), and then capping of attributes (like casting/attacking speed)....gee, almost sounds like SWG. But players got angry when they had to begin re-grinding their templates...so much so, that Soul-Stones were introduced into the game. (anyone see /respec in that?)
Now, Star Wars is probably THE best theme ever tobase an mmorpg on. It still is. Just don't make claims that the game is based on "specific time frames" and then advertise that you can have a character that was a rarity during that time frame. Funny thing about mmorpg's, people will find a way to create that rare character quickly.
Someone said that no one role plays a Jedi. Well, how can they? In the middle of my roleplay, bh pops up and bang...that's the end of role play. Fight clubs put an end to the FRS (which in my opinion was another bad idea). No character should be able to obtain any skill, power, or item, that any othercharacter cannot obtain given time. Anytime something is put into a game that will allow another player to become uber...combat oriented players will gravitate to it. We see this happen with each change...there is always a FOTP (flavor of the publish) character template.
They made Jedi an uber elite class in the beginning and then nerfed it down to it's pressent condition. Players complained when the Jedi entered the GCW (when all SOE needed to do was code it so Bases didn't attack Jedi and Jedi couldn't attack the bases). If NPC rebels/imperials did not attack jedi and jedi could not attack them....then that would solve the problem of Jedi in the GCW. Making cities "non-duel & non-pvp" zones would keep the lightsaber shows down. Instead of putting mods on the jedi robe (+10 to force regen & +250 to force power) move that to the jedi padawan box. All force power is an innate ability....not CA. The look of SW could be achieved, you wouldn't see people that looked like jedi running all over. Why do I carry my lightsaber in hand everywhere I go? Why am I running a Valor and force infusion macro at all times? Because I have no choice if I am to survive. I cannot go to town and talk and interact without constantly being on guard for that BH fight. So that will detract from the SW look and feel so many of us would like to have.
Some out-of-the-nerf thinking is all that is required. Some basic design concepts changed...and SWG is back up on top.
Fair enough Blix. But now the people that live in the house are wondering -- nay, demanding -- to know who's idea it was to put the toilet in the living room (and for that matter the stove in the bathroom and the TV in the laundry hamper), and so far nobody is owning up. THAT is why people are upset. THAT is why the game is in chaos.

LOL, I know the people at SOE are smiling. As soon as someone points a finger at another profession, race, faction. They know they have won. Sony ruined the game not anyone that plays it. But as long as people are blaming each other they are not whining to them so they win.
I see people talking about how they should have spent there time fixing bugs instead of nerfing professions. Well I think they should have taken afew people off the expansions that we have had and made them fix the bugs that have been present since the launch of this silly game. But they don't have to worry about fixing bugs as long as everyone is fighting about who is ruining the game. There are bugs that are still out there since the beginning.
Not sure how many of you would remember this but right before they started adding Jedi to the world people where bored. Mostly the power gamers, the people with 2,3,4,5,ect... acounts. They had started leaving. The only reason they added the holo grind was to keep them in the game and keep getting those multi account payments. That worked for many months.
Now to let out sony's little secret.A lotgamers want to be powerful within the game. When Sony changes the FTOM template it forces those players to quickly change there template and grind out the new one. ( how many people do you know right now that are grinding SL ). Once that is done and those people get bored you will see a new patch that changes something and makes a new FOTM so they have something new to grind. That keeps the money rolling in.
Nobody that is playing the game has the ability to make changes to it. Sony makes the changes. When it comes to who is to blame it has to be them not joe down the street who is whining on a silly forum.
Remember when wanting to blame someone make sure to think aobut who is really at fault.

This makes sense. However, it sounds like there is a disconnect between the player base and the 'bosses' you speak of. If theonly people we are able to speak with are the 'plumbers' then we have a serious problem.
Borrowing from your analogy, usually on a job like this, there is an interior decorator or designer that advises the 'bosses' as to what will work and what will not. I see alot of titles that equate to designer and boss:
SpaceRancoraka Eli Holding, Lead designer for Trials of Obi-Wan
Rogue5 akaGrantMcDaniel,SOE Producer for Star Wars Galaxies
Shadowbrak aka Travis Hicks, Content designer for The Trials of Obi-Wan
Here are just a few people that should have an influence on the game design or as you say, where the toilet goes.
Is anyone communicating with these folks to let them know what is happening in the community? That there is 'rioting in the streets'?
Blixtev you may be the plumber, but you are not mute. Help us help you make SWG a better than great game. Listen to us and persuade the bosses to listen to you.
It is all on you shoulders. We are all counting on you. Do not let Spectre win!LOL j/k. I just had to add that in.
I hope you reply to this.
Thanks.

Oh man, now I have to explain how that toilet got there with the pretty blue water. =P

Actually, it would be nice if you could explain how that toilet got there even though your customers said a toilet in that place will make parts of the house unuseable.

I work on another game, as one of the bosses who make awful decisions like this that destroy games/ruin player bases...well, I haven't done that yet, but you get the idea.
Guys like him, in my experience, are akin to artists who really try their best and really take it personally when we, as players, get pissed off by the changes he was ordered to make.
The heads of the Dev Team, who either aren't speaking up to the moronic commands coming from above them...or are blind to what is happening...deserve the flaming.
This has been a terrific experience for me...I'm learning alot. Don't worry, moderator, I will not use this for free advertisement.

Tiggs, we jst want to know who ordered them to put the toilet there, why said person thought the toilet needed to be there, and their plans for the rest of the house...

The rest of the house is still under discussion. The toilet works better there and compliments the garage that will be moved their next. =P
Good post
And it's nice to see a dev that actually give us an answer.
