Thread: Disarming Shot
I keep reading everywhere in this forum that disarming shot isn't working. We hear "It only does random HAM damage". Later on Disarming Shot 2 is supposed to be an are of effect knockdown, which is also complained about because it doesn't work. Well I was wondering if anyone actually took a look at their opponents weapon durability after a duel. I tested it out with a friend. He dueled me with a CDEF pistol that I made for him with 1000 durability. After around 2min of dueling, during which I was only firing disarming shot, we took a look at his pistol's durability....It was down to 234! So if you were wondering if disarming shot was broken, since you read it so much on these forums, I will tell you no. I was assuming by hearing the name of disarming shot that it would unequip the targets weapon, forcing them to re-equip, but doing damage to the durability of their weapon is fine to me. If you think about it, most combatants don't walk around with weapons at 100% anyways, so you might just get lucky enough to destroy the weapon outright, and even if they incap you...you already got your revenge!

This is second post today saying that Disarm is now working, that is, it damages the opponents weapon.
If so, this is a major, five alarm fire, total disaster waiting to happen.
Imagine what is going to happen once someone loses their five million credit uber-Krayt T21 rifle of l33tness to some Pistoleer spamming Disarm.
On the other hand, maybe the outcry will be so great that the devs will make Disarm actually do something we really want it to do.

I had the same reaction. I was very upset, so I stayed home and tested it before heading to work. Result: still not working.
Five minutes ago I tested both DisarmingShot1 and DisarmingShot2, with 17-35 CDEFs, DX2s, andRepublic Blasters, standing 10m away from the other guy, and had zero change in condition. I ran multiple tests, same result.
I'm sure we'd both agree that's a good thing, too. I would have gone bezerk if the Devs ignored our requests and changed this to be a griefer's tool.
Now if your friend had been a lair he'd be toast.
They should make your disarm actualy disarm a a persons weapon like it did in EQ. You don't even realize it for a second when your fighting....its like "why am I not hitting anymore, why am I dead now, what the hell just happened" I think it would be great for you guys.
I agree tho, that it shouldn't damage other weapons. I never even hot keyed that special when I read what it did (by description...didn't know it didn't work).
I disagree, I would rather see disarming shotturned into a Delay, much like the warcrys and panic shot. Unequipping a weapon wont do much, except take up one space on the other guys toolbar. A delay would be better.
Disarm I-5 Secconds
Disarm II-10 Secconds
We've made the delay suggestion and have also suggested making DisarmingShot into a ranged Intimidate as well.

I think it would be cool if it would just unequip the weapon, and they would have to re-equip it. Talk about a sweet move against another ranged specialist!
Am I missing something here? Is it just against players that everyone says Disarming Shot doesn't work? Because it works GREAT for me when I'm fighting NPC's, but I've never used it on a player. So is it only in PvP that it doesn't work, or is it just never working during any form of combat for you guys?
What exactly does it do for you in PvE? I've used it in PvE and it just spits out random ham damage.

Basically it does exactly what everyone here is asking for it to do! The only problem is that it only seems to work once in every 20-30 attempts.
I first got it to work when I was fighting a group of Stormtroopers. I had a couple faction pets, so I wasn't in any real danger and I just started messing around with my attacks. One of the Stormies was firing at me, when I used Disarming Shot. I noticed almost right away that he not only stopped attacking me, but he hadn't changed targets to one of my faction pets. I was a bit confused, so I used /examine and it showed him standing there, fists held up in the air ready to duke-it-out!
The entire time he stood like that, he never approached me to attempt melee combat (which I thought was a bit silly but no big deal). After a couple seconds I saw (still in the Examine window) him pull out his blaster again and start firing at me.
I tested this on a couple other faction missions. I would use /examine on them first so I could see them very up close, then use Disarming Shot. The vast majority of the time absolutely nothing happened beyond the random HAM damage. But every now and again I would see the enemy switch from ranged combat to melee. I don't use any melee pets for tanking, so their changing to melee combat was purely due to my using DIsarming shot. Besides Stormtroopers and Imperial Officers (I don't remember exactly which type), I've also gotten this to work against Tusken Raiders two or three times.
Three things I'd like to make note of:
1. This happens waaaaaaaaaay too rarely, which is pretty obvious since it's never worked for any of you guys. I think it works better if you spam it two or three times in a row, but that might just have been luck that it worked those times.
2. If the NPC has a melee weapon (Tuskens have Gaffi Sticks, and Stormtroopers sometimes have those shock-sticks) then they will switch to that weapon when they put their ranged weapon away. They won't go straight to using fists unless they aren't carrying a melee weapon.
3. You can't disarm enemies of their melee weapons, or at least I have not been successful in doing so. I think you should be allowed to though, so hopefully I've just been unlucky in getting it to work against melee NPC's.
