Thread: Jedi as temporarily perofession only?
StabMastah wrote:Could it cut through a star and cause a super nova too ??Seriously, what CANT a Lightsaber do ?Its obvious you have no regard for game balance as at all. Realism when it suits you. Balance for when we are concerned. Is that about right ?
No. Your flip flopping like a fish on land. You just claimed that lightsabers arnt better then rifles, I don't see any blaster rifle cuting a door, or a ships hull, or anything for that matter, ifnact it doesnt go through anything but flesh and some armor
lol, yeah lets do this....nevermind the fact that come publish 19 Jedi and BH power are near equal. In a lot of instances BH's will be more powerful.
Only way your system woudl make sense is if the Jedi was able to take 20-30 people on at once as was stated by a dev years ago. Then one death might make sense. If not, it's not worth the effort.
Why are there posts like this still? Is it not enough that Jedi is being watered down, you have to actually continue to complain until all Jedi toons are actually stripped of all skills? I mean I would laugh if this wasn't the 30th post I've read asking for the same type of thing, funny how no one mentions that 1vs1 Jedi will nearly be equal in a few days.
Oh and why not make a cap for BH's? I mean I don't remember EVERYONE being a BH in the movies.....so what do you say we give regular players 2 deaths before reset. That sounds about fair.

Your probably the only person that has any common sense in this post, Thank you for seeing the light warryyr
It's the jedi way as always. Realism and timeline when it sutis them.
Realism OFF - when its on the downside for jedi
Realism ON - when its profitable for jedi
Timeline OFF - When we are talking about Ep III-VI
Timeline ON - When we are talking about Ep II

I have a suggestion....
Why not make the jedi profession ment to be temporarily only?
So every characrter that unlocks can stay jedi and grind the skills until he/she gets DBd by some other player (BH or overt opposite faction jedi). When the jedi gets DBd he looses the jedi unlock and becomes a regular character again. You wont actually loose your items, house, speeders, mounts etc, only your jedi skills. The character may do a new skill respec to regualr skills when DBd. After that the jedi slot can't be reopened again with that character.
This is to be working with a server cap on jedi population, so there can never be too many jedis around. I'd say 10 light and 10 dark jedis would be fine. And when any of them gets DBd (or the account is unused for a long time) some other player gets to unlock jedi.
This way all gaming comminity has the chance of playing jedi without risking to loose thier characters and without overpopulating jedi and unbalancing the game.
What do you think?

The Devs will never bring back this type of "pera death" because once something is taken out of the game, they don't place it back in.

Its not a valid point. " work " done should never be a guarantee of uberness.
Thats the downfall of this game. And thats why we have Bounty Hunters.
ok but where does not wanting permadeath = Uberness?
GIve me a break man you are all over the place, you call for Permadeath and you are equating no Permadeath to Uberness.
Are you just a Idiot or Been drinking?
Again if any other character was to die and loose all the profession they gained would that be good? I mean anyone can grind BH in a few days Rifleman in a few days, shoot any profession but Jedi in a few days. so if you lost everything that wouldnt be too bad sicne you can jsut regrind BH in a few days.
Perhaps once you put on your helmet you can jump into the game.

You took what I said out of context ofcourse. Alot of the " abilities " you listed for the Lightsaber are soley dependet on its users grasp of the " force ". If Han Solo or some random non Jedi charachter picked up the Lightsaber, I seriously doubt he would be blocking blaster bolts and slicing through blast doors.
Seriously, how else do you explain how NOBODY ever carries a Lightsaber unless they are Jedi in the SWG universe ?? Not even polearms or sword masters who are skilled at using blades. Why ??? And don't give me that " its an ancient " weapon everyone likes blasters crap. If it could really cut through just about anything , at all times, people would carry them arround just because. For whatever reason.
Some Jedi are more " strong " in the " force " then others. This is what determines how " powerfull " they are at using a Lightsaber.
In a game enviroment like SWG, that simply won't do for balance reasons. Rifleman, being a long range profession, should almost always have the advantage over a Jedi. Whos basically a sword weilding charachter.
Only Jedi can make them.
Jedi were purged/in hiding.
Nobody else has lightsabers.
Luke got one because Obi-Wan picked up his Dad's after schooling him about basic combat tactics.
If you can't build it, you don't have one. Luke lost his at the end of Episode V and built himself a new one for Episode VI, as part of this Jedi training.
Han Solo used Luke's lightsaber to cut open the Taun Taun. It can cut through just about anything, except another lightsaber blade (usually) and some other various armors and stuff from the EU. You will notice that Han was pretty careful about using the lightsaber, because only a Jedi can wield it effectively. And many folks at that time had probably just never seen one.
In keeping with lightsaber crafting, only a Jedi who makes one in SWG can use it. If you can't build it, you likely don't have one.

Might I point out anyone with eye sight and a body can hold a lightsaber, and stick it through a door, it doesn't take the forde to do that, it does take the force to reflect blaster bolts, i agree with you there. Don't ask why everyone doesn't carry one around, I guess its because There only equipable by jedi and all. also, the lightsaber is much more dangerouse then a sword, or blade, if you hit yourself with a blade you might get choped in half, you might get cut, if you hit yourself with a lightsaber, your garunteed to get quartered. really, I'm sick of argueing right now, and want to go see whats going on on the flurry boards, ill be back later to argue though.

Okay so you want...
1. The most damaging weapon. We have pretty damn far from teh Most damaging Weapong
2. The most heals Heals now cost us 3 Bar Pools to do, while Docs still only use 1 to heal
3. Ranged and Melee attacks how is anyone supposed to have a ranged attack with a LS we have saber throw thats it, and its been nefed
4. Fastest footspeed in the game yea perma burst run Woowhoo how uber
5." Force powers " including being able to go invisible. Umm you do know that there is a acctual Jedi tree for that and if they want it they can get it by grinding that tree.
Thats but a few. Gee, I can't imagine why ANYONE would have a problem with your player class. After all, you ask for soooo little in exchange for your " hard work " .
You will notice in Episode I that Qui Gonn focuses very intensely while cutting through the blast door. Then, he focuses even harder when they shut an ADDITIONAL set, and he starts melting through that. So perhaps certain actions with a lightsaber (adjusting blade length or intensity?) could be Force-dependant, but basic operation is possible by anyone...but brings with it the possibility you'll point the thing at your face ignite it, or something.
