After reading all the claims that charge was superior to underhand I decided to try it out. I didn't find it to be superior to underhand shot in terms of damage or effectiveness, although I didn't find it to be less effective either really. On the downside though you can't use charge in any position except standingbecause you have to thatridiculous animation. I can use underhand shot from the prone, critical and thenlegshot all before he even gets up. If I am standing I am shooting much more slowly and I am lucky if I get the critical on him before the legshot hits. In summary, I am going back to underhand.

For a true Carbineer, the requirement to be standing to use Charge Shot isn't a big issue.
Several Carbineer specials require us to be standing.
For the Stormtrooper on the assault, fire & movement, this isn't a problem!

Myalt toonis Mcarbineer/Mdoc. He sticks improved charge shot on most creatures 98% of the time. What I find different is the arnor resistance of some creatures. Sometimes the shot lands but they don't fall. Other times it is a complete miss if the creature has any dodge ability. The standard move is charge shot/leg shot/rapid fire. I get good damage and a consistent debuff. Also when the mob gets to upset at me I change targets and charge shot all of them. It usually sticks, and I get to heal and hide for another series of nasty crowd control tactics. Most folks shy away from AoE shots I don't as it brings on the XP faster if I survive the initial attack, then I go back to KD and kiting.

-Speed difference - not sure
-damage difference - charge shot does double what underhand does
-SAC cost - identical or nearly identical
-stickage- both seem to stick well for me
note - they seem to both be on the same KD timer... so no point in using one less than 30 seconds after the other
note - charge shot will alllow you to run while rooted and snared for a short period of time
note - charge shot can not be done while kneeling or prone, underhand can.

Which is more effective? Anyone have some numbers or views on this?

I don't recall ever having Underhand Shot fail to knockdown the target unless I missed him all together (or if the knockdown timer got in the way). The "charge" part of Charge Shot can be a pain if you're trying to kite someone as you litterally charge towards them. With that in mind, I'd say that Underhand Shot is better.

charge shot has a better chance or something, but underhand looks better and is better when kiting

Ive tried them both, and it seems to me that Charge Shot is more effective at actually knocking your opponent down. Although they are right about Underhand being more usefull while Kiting, wich is what I use almose exclusively.

They are about equal, the choice between them should be decided by what professions you have already. Its usually easier to get Charged as you dont have to included 4xxx Scout like Underhand. Also, that charge animation doesn't always happen.

Both have the same chance to KD in my experience.
Charge Shot does a lot of more damage than Underhand usually though.
Therefore, if you can live with the crappy animation, use Charge Shot.

Normally I'd /cry because we've already had 18 million charge shot vs underhand shot threads. But it's hard to complain nowadays when the forum search function doesn't even work.
Some of us think the Charge shot animation is endearing! It does move you though, so if you don't want to move, don't use it. It can be quite handy though, because you will still move during the animation even while rooted.
