Not really.. If you look at the skills, they changed the defenses to stuff like 'Rifle Defense', 'Pistol Defense', etc. They still have the ranged defense and melee defense 'general' skils. Those stack with the weapon specific defense skills. GENERAL Range defense + Rifle Defense = Defense while holding a rifle. What they screwed up was the description of the old Ranged Defense and Melee defense skils. They should say 'This skill mod makes you harder to hit while USING a ranged weapon' instead of 'This skill mod makes you harder to hit WITH ranged weapons'. They didn't change the description, thats all. They added 'GENERAL Ranged Speed/Accuracy' and 'GENERAL Melee Speed/Accuracy', those are pretty obvious. The fact we now have defenses while holding specific weapons makes it sorta obvious that Ranged and Melee Defense are related to the weapon you're holding.

At the moment it seems that rifleman are overpowered (sniff.. thats me )

Rifleman
Melee +35
Ranged +100
Rifle +30
Effective defense*: 130

Carbineer
Melee +60
Ranged +75
Carbine +40
Effective defense*: 115

Pistoleer
Melee +80
Ranged +85
Pistol +50
Effective defense*: 135


*when holding your weapon. Doesnt matter whether the attacker does melee or ranged dmg.


But if how things are now is bugged, it seems kinda weird that bounty hunters get more ranged defense than melee defense because we mainly hunt jedi (melee characters)

I do know that the ranged/melee defense BE clothes don't do anything, had jedi hit me with attack with nothing on, hit for 450, put on bando, hit me for exact same thing, equipped my clothes with +11 rifle defense, went down to 448....

ehm, they do work for me....


I've tested a BE shirt and pants with +18 ranged defense mods (BE).. They both worked well (With the limitation that any mod on your clothing/armor above 25 works as if it was 25)... Did you re-equip your weapon ??

Actually no didn't unequip and re-equip. I thought that was just for food.

ive just been testing this in conjuction with duelist stance. as i arifleman with thundercloud i have 400 ranged defense with duelist that goes to 650. the damge redution with ranged shot went from 185 to 144 with thunder and duelist. this is pretty damn nice!

If you are holding a melee weapon then your melee defense is the defense value for both ranged and melee attacks.

Just thought of this.


There are two parts to the defense equation; how often you get hit, and how much damage you take.


It's very clear, now, that damage mitigation is based on the weapon you're holding when you get hit, but are the 'did you get hit?' modifiers working correctly?


Which is to say, if you have a low ranged defense but a high melee defense and use a melee weapon, are you getting hit frequently by ranged attacks but mitigating much of the damage? And do melee attacks miss you more than ranged attacks do in addition to mitigating the damage?


And what of the converse? If you have a high ranged defense and a low melee defense, when you use a ranged weapon are you being hitmore often bymelee attacks than by rangedattacks, but still mitigating the damage as if it were a ranged attack?

I actually think this is a good thing. Being a MBH/MRifles/CM 4000, my Ranged defense has always been higher than my Melee defense. Wich I always thought was crappy, because Jedi use Melee. But now, my defense towards melee And ranged will be using my Ranged defense as long as I use my rifle. Wich is an upgrade to me, since it is higher.


However I fail to see why TKM would even have ranged defense in it now. Or why Rifleman would now have Melee defense. The professions themselves are nowcontradicting thier abilities. /shrug

improved center of being adds 500.00 to ranged and melee defense. but it CANNOT be used while holding a ranged weapon.

but obvioulsy im pure melee so i never need hold a ranged weapon.. but i dont understand.

No, the Jedi will not.


I just tested this with my jedi. Got shot with the same shot over and over. First I tried Thundercloud, did nothing, then I did vegerspine, did NOTHING! I unequip my lightsaber and wow then thefoods worked while I "unarmed". So, seems more like they intended part of it as why would these defense foods stop working while holding a LS?

ehm, did you re-equip your saber after you unarmed yourself? cause then it prob would have worked aswell ....
