Thread: Defense just found to be broken, very important for BHs and all professions

Based on this research, there is a very serious question as to whether all of those skill trees that give melee defense bonuses to ranged characters (and vice versa) are a complete waste.

I tested this just a few mins ago and it is is not working. If you are a ranged profession with a ranged weapon Vegesparine will do nothing for you. Also make sure to unequip and reequip your weapon after you eat the food for the state to take effect.

How long after you take the food do you have wait before you un-equip and re-equip? If you made a macro that ate the food, how big of a pause would you put after taking in the food before re-equiping? One second? Five?


Narrow question, I know but important to those with food macros.








Take your food or drink, Unequip then reequip it should take that long.

One second should be fine for a food macro.

As of right now they are worthless.



The devs were notified about this at 3:30 PM PST by the CHEF CORR. I would suspect some info asap. This can have a major impact on the game and will require a new code to be introduced that will invariable screw up crafting, shuttle ports, and login. Mark my words.

The test in the OP concluded that CA and AA mods work the same as the food. Ranged Defense gives defense boost against ranged and melee attacks when holding a ranged weapon, Melee Defense gives defense against ranged and melee attacks when unarmed or holding a melee weapon. The skill mod cap for clothing at least is +25. So Ranged Defense +46 is the same as Ranged Defense +25. Time to dump some of those extra Ranged/Melee Defense clothes!

No, its bigger than that. SKILL MODS are also affected which means Rifleman are overpowered because they have tons of ranged defense while Pistoleers are underpowered because they have some melee defense in the mix. This has been tested. This is a MAJOR issue that has caused almost all combat professions to be unbalanced. It's more than just food and tapes, folks.

tested and confirmed..... def foods are borked (and perhaps the entire def system).....


My testing showed that a charecter that had taken elshandru pica thundercloud recieved about 10% less damage from a bol. Here's the test...


Toon - Maco Cearo (Shadowfire)

temp - MBH / MPist / Powers 0300

Padiwan robes equiped, holding featherweight FWG5


damage recieved from a CL 13 bol was.....


48 pts - saber equiped

44 pts - pistol equiped


48 pts - saber equiped (w/ thundercloud)

40 pts - pistol equiped (w/ thundercloud)



So.... no matter which way foods and defense stats are SUPPOSED to work..... they are curently working so that you will need to choose the food mods for the weapon type you will be EQUIPING not wich you will be taking damage from.

Honestly, I don't think this could have ever worked correctly post-CU, since the equip/re-equip your weapon "fix" we've been doing really only makes sense if the game is applying your food to the weapon you're holding. Hence the need to re-equip your weapon.

Your MELEE defense and defense mods will work fine. In fact, for certain dabblers in Defender, the Melee defense mods from Defender will work better for them than if they'd taken the Ranged defense branch.


What really gets me is that this MAJORchange was unannounced, undocumented, untested, and apparently 'stealthed' in.


What, did the development team thinknone of us wouldever notice?


I'vejust abouthad it with SWG development constantly changing the rules set. These aren't just "tweaks" of abilities, these are wholesale changes to fundamental aspects of gameplay.
