so if my master powers jedi uses ranged defense foods, does it have an effect? i can't exactly unequip force choke...
same goes for TKM, can't cut my hands off
i suppose i would have to equip a lightsaber (which i would normally not do at all) and then unequip it...devious

If you have no weapon equiped then you are considered UNARMED MELEE so the vegesparine is the food you want to use. No matter which food you use you must eat or drink then unequip your weapon and reequip your weapon for the food to add to your defenses.

Defence foods cap at +99.....after 99 they are unneffective....AND ranged proffs have melee def mods because the defense is based apon what is hitting you......melee defence...is the defense you have against a melee....and same with ranged defence.....the reasons your melee/ranged def is lower/ higher with different weapons is beacuse of the mods given by the proffession
example:TKM has unarmed defense...that adds to bothe ranged/melee and when i go to TKA weapons it raises my defense to 310 (no foods) so when i add vegis it mkaes me less vulnerable to MELEE attacks ...and rifles has different RIFLE defense than CARBINES so thats the number change your seeing when you switch weapons

I tested a bit around with Food and the reequip weapon thing and found out that melee defense for a ranged prof doesnt change the damage taken but it looks like after i got hit 200 times by a lvl 50 Mob that taking vegesparine +96melee def decreases the chance of hit in some way.
Another food i tested is block +25 food (Elshandru works fine for ranged wielding after reequip against melee and ranged attacks) which also doesnt decrease the damage taken but lets the opponent miss more (melee attacker same as ranged) - dodge food is the most curiuosthing in here... i ate it and the damage taken from the mob decreased but when i do the reequip like with all the other food it does somehow increase my damage taken and i cant understand why.
I found out that the problem or bug about all that might be the point that the weapon hinderance icon in ure buffline is the problem cause it always has to be behind the food or buffs to take effect. Melee wieldig profs dont have that icon since they dont have hinderance but somehow the system checks where the food or buffs are in line and if they are after the weapon icon the mods of food and buffs doesnt work.
I doubt this is working as intendend since Rifleman / Carbineer / Pistoleer have different amounts of Melee / Ranged def and Rifleman cause he has the highest Ranged Def has the lowest Melee Defense. This shall be the logical Balance for the 3 Ranged Profs as in which range they fight and how high the dam output is in general.
The fact that cause of this borked defense system Rifleman is overpowered now and Pistoleer underpowered is the proof of it but there are many more.
I only want to have a statement if SOE already has aknowledged the problem and of course the ETA for a fix.

All I see is a bunch of speculating and hearsay... I understand people have tested this out, but I want an official statement from the dev's or even Tanks.

i knew it was true, someone said it was bs, but it wasnt. ive got 200 ranged defense w/ my pistol. so ive got to stack up some more ranged defense food stuff, correct?

Does this mean that I want to do food by:
1.take defense food
2. unequip/reequip weapon
3. then take dodge food???

If this is true then why does my N-K Executer have a +11 to ranged defense? I dont get it.

Why else would every ranged profession get melee defenses?
Why else would Rifleman get less melee defense when pistoleer get more?
The Devs screwed up on this one. It's amazing how comepletely unaware of game-mechanics the programmers are.
There's also a new CH pet special that will, as the description says, increase your pets attack speed. Obviously an 'increase' in attack speed should result in faster attacks, however the programmer took it literally and increased the speed modifier.

Well...all the genral mele def i get as a carbineer. It does not apply when im not holding a carbine. So in effect the mele defence i get in carbineer is compleatly unusable to me as when i have a carbine im in "ranged" mode and when i dont have a weapon im not "holding a carbine" therefor dont get the mele def from carbineer.
Only thing this game needs is a global plague spread by npc's.

Unintentional as that was, I somehow can't help thinking something like this might be manna from heaven for Docs if implemented correctly.

I think there trying to say if your a ranged proff the only defense you need to worry about is ranged defense, it will cover ranged attacks and melee attacks aslong as you are equiped with a ranged weapon...?
If that is the case I can actaully make sense of it... If anyone made a screw up its us the players for not realizing sooner.
I always just figured it worked this way.
