Its true. Listen to the veterans above. Pike is a very challenging but rewarding to play. At first I was bitter and sad nothing really happened until I hit master. Trust me its a huge difference to hit master, but I guess its the same in the other proffesions.

Then I was a little sad that pikeman seamed to be totally useless in PvP and duels. But since I just loved the animations of pikeman and its a very good PvE proffesion as well I stick to it and slowly Ive started to understand the lovely ways with the pike. Like the nice ppl above already have said: It takes some planning and experience to use the pike well. Just gets so much more rewarding when you take down your enemies with it and you do it in a very beutifull manner aswell

...orat least yougo down with style. Both ways youre a winner

if your well equipped pikemen has gotta be one of the best pvp classes - tonight i killed a master pistoleer/CM and a master riflemen/master doctor - i had the advantage of already knowing who the doctor was. You just need topline armour - so TKA doesnt stand a chance, buff big on the mind(i used a mind buff, powerboost, two brandies, force of will, i had left to use - muon, glucose, glucose - if i needed), and with your uber dots you be able to take most pvpers.

My build
Master Pike
TKA 4 0 0 4
Riflemen 4 3 0 4(gonna use it to finish my opponents - or maybe throw it away - cos i never get to use it - dots do the job)
Master Brawler

CM would be an absolute **edit** if u didnt have TKA - but everybody should have that TKA line

So Pikemen is very good pvp - once u have invested the time and money, pve i dont do much of - but i imagine u would pretty much rock if u got hold of a high damage(700+) lva.

Still the class has nothing to offer to the game (unless of course u are a "pike maniac" or simply like the way that ur character looks when wandering around carring a pike). Swordsman is way better at this point ... i hope we can get a bit more ...

i think pikeman is absolutely great, no doubt swordsman is good but i do love pikeman. especially with the LVA's NS are droping lately im useing a 139-834 DOT Poison 3.8 un-sliced LVA atm, and i hit hrader then a master swordsman atm.

if you play them properly useing all your moves well, dizzy, to KD, polearm hit 3 etc there is nothing we cant do.

I've been Master Pikeman for some time now and yes, you need to learn the profession.

The only bad thing I can say is when hunting (in groups) being constantly asked to put my (crafted/sliced) LVA away!!! Read into that what you may. Now running around with a renforced combat staff!!!

As for not adding anything to the game, swordman, etc. Once you've got to grips with Pikeman, try hunting with one. You may be surprised. Healing them gets very tiring.

At the end of the day all class have pro's and con's. Or pro is PvE, the con PvP. However, we are at the extremes of both. Guess that's balance though.

Ok thx for all the replies Ive tried the proffession now for 2 days and so far im only 1-0-0-0 but i love it, the moves are pretty to watch and i can handle most things i try to kill. Its much cooler than tkm/heavy swordsman and fencer wich i have tried before. I will still be a fotm cuz ill build my char like this Masterpike, master rifle and artisan 0-0-4-4 now after im master i will try pvp and try and find the best pike i can get from the ns Iam most in for PvE but if i enjoy PvP i might do that all the time instead, the rebels on chieamera might need another pikeman

if anyone can provide me with a good enough reason on why to play pikeman over swordsman i'd be more than glad to hear ....( basicaly i got a couple of friends trying to persuade me to play swordsman , cause they say its better, and i cant find any strong argument to suport my decision to go pike ....)

On a side note reasonings like he looks great or the moves look great , and using looted NS pikes are not good enough for me (not to mention about my friends)

Take the proffesion because you want to take it. If you are always comparing this proffesion to that, you'll never really enjoy the one you are in.

Comparison between melee profession is something that cant be avoided .... Nobody want a proffession that just looks nice and cool BUT actually isnt.

Swordsman hits faster and harder , he also has 2 very good damage types ( medium armor blast and kinetic while we got medium armor kinetic and light armor lightning.... also most creatures lack blast resists , while has not the case for electricity wich does significantly ess damage than its blast counter part....)

TKA has better KD than pike ( kd and dizzy at the same time ) and also can withstand lots of punishment (call me unarmed toughness)

Fencer has way higher defences vs states ( dizzy,kd,etc) and can dost most attacks thus getting minimal damage.

Now what does pikeman got to counter all these benifits ? the answer to this question is what im searching for and im doing it in good will since i DO like the way pikeman looks .... but answers like "Take the proffesion because you want to take it. If you are always comparing this proffesion to that, you'll never really enjoy the one you are in." or "he is another hologrinder that doent know" only makes me believe that there is no strong arguments against my points .... I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong.

PS : What im really asking is what does pikeman excell over the oter melee professions ....

Coming from MTKA and now Master Pikeman (non Holo), I noticed in comparison TKA is a lot easier to play (Selfbuff, healing etc, strength and speed, less downtime..).

TKA I knew to perfection (how to use it), but Pikey is a nice challenge to take and with the right strategy, luck (in finding agood weapon)and enough money (buffs) it can become very powerful. Though I have a Master Pikeman tag I still havent mastered knowing how to use it perfect yet

TBo what we get over the other profs is awesome loot - sure it might cost time and money - but with those investments u become very very hard to beat.

I have 6 mind poison lances set in a variety of macros - each ranging from 52%potency to 88%potency - + one fire mind dot of 89% potency and 118strenght(useful for incapping), plus i have rifle if they decide to run off and i havent stuck the fire dot i incap em with the blast from a jawa.

Once you have this kind of equipment and the equipment every pvper needs (great armour and food) a pikemen is very very hard to beat.

In pve the idea is essentially the same - get a great lva.

Thats what we get over the other classes - without the investment we are weaker, with it we are very strong.
