That's pretty much what I did to get my 10k cap
Only I ran mine from Tyrena (less spam and lag) and you don't have to be too close to the informant, you can be 30m or so away and just use the good old /conv command to talk to them from a long distance
Just keep on aborting those 12km missions until you get a couple of really close ones (though if you get really close ones, there's a chance the mark will spawn inside of a house or something.......)

At Tyrena just create a macro
/targ Taewaso;
/pause 0.5;
/conv;
Now with the Datapad and the Mission window open, you can quickly go through missions until you get what you want. My personal range was 1500m. I also mapped middle button to double click and learnt when I can press Enter to Accept or Delete the mission.

I didn't really care whether it was close or not. I found the unlucky streaks could be really long sometimes. So my only criteria was that it was close to a shuttleport instead of out in the middle of nowhere.
You'll find that if you go through one page of trying to find missions inside of coronet, then settle for one close to a city/shuttleport, the investigation grind goes relatively quick. I also found that this method kept the timing with the shuttles almost perfect (rarely would I have to wait 5 mins for a shuttle, most of the time the shuttle was there when I arrived). From Coronet I'd shuttle to Tyrena, Vreni Isle, and Bela Vistal rather regularly. And find myself returning while other BH's were still at the terminal refreshing constantly still looking for a closer mission.

last night i had a mark spawn 33 meters from the terminal, almost right next to my spynet op lol. i quickly dispatched him and the very next mission i pulled spawned less than 300m away. i had a pretty good run of close missions last night. just all depends on luck really, keep refreshing.

It's random, you just got unlucky. Just take one close to a shuttle and with the less than 5 min wait now you'll get through it quickly.
Oh, and I agree, Tyrena is the place to be, much less lag.

OK, I haven't logged into SWG in about a week as it's gotten really boring, but I am still keeping my account active in the hopes of the game being well done over with upcoming patches. That and getting the free ship.
Investigation I-IV XP is gained through taking BH missions and defating the marks still, correct?
Skimming some of the past posts, it almost seems that the upcoming change will make Investigation Skill boxes need Combat XP.
Is it Combat XP now or still Investigation XP?
