Thread: Defense just found to be broken, very important for BHs and all professions

I've done some more quick testing of Vegaparsine and Thundercloud.
Vegaparsine (+100 Melee defense)
Elshandruu Pica Thundercloud (+100 Ranged defense)
-Offense: Someone with 236 accuracy when shooting with ranged shot (using a rifle)
-Defense: Someone with base defense of: 169 melee and 244 ranged defense.
The following tests are to find out when Vegaparsine/Elshandruu pica thundercloud actually work...
Defense: 169 melee 244 ranged
Defender has NO weapon equiped
Damage: 744
Defense: 240 melee 315 ranged
Defender has weapon equiped
Damage: 709
Defense: 269 melee 244 ranged (used +100MD vegaparsine)
Defender has NO weapon equiped
Damage: 718
Defense: 340 melee 315 ranged (used +100MD vegaparsine)
Defender has weapon equiped
Damage: 709
Defense: 269 melee 344 ranged (used +100MD vegaparsine AND +100RD Thundercloud)
Defender has NO weapon equiped
Damage: 718
Defense: 340 melee 415 ranged (used +100MD vegaparsine AND +100RD Thundercloud)
Defender has weapon equiped
Damage: 683
The above numbers show that my assumption about how melee and ranged defense work seem to be true. I've highlited the Damages and the corresponding defenses. I've also tested this briefly against a Jedi yesterday (he's melee), and after I took my ranged defense drink, he hit me for less dmg (after re-equiping my rifle ofcourse. Note I havent tested this for an extended period of time against a melee character, but I have no reason te believe its working any different).
So it seems to be that:
- Melee defense means your defense value against Ranged OR Melee attacks when you have a melee weapon equiped (your hands are also melee)
- Ranged defense mean your defense value against Ranged OR Melee attacks only when you have a ranged weapon equiped (You must re-equip your weapon after you used ranged defense food!!)
Thats why Thundercloud doesnt work for a jedi Nicka. Because he equips a Melee weapon. He should infact use Vegeparsine

EDIT:
I've done some simple testing with Clothing and Armor with Ranged / Melee defense mods. It seems to work exactly the same as I described above!
If you have above +25 on some skill in attachments on your suit, it will count as +25 to that mod. I tested this by using some clothes that would give me +46 in ranged defense. Altough the character screen might say you have a higher ranged defense, it actually has the exact same result as using +25 in attachments! When I had a +21 ranged defense mod on my cloths, it showed an increase in dmg, but +46 = +25)
I just tested right now since I am Master BH/MCABRS/CM4000 with tons-o-defense. With a carbine Equpied I have 245 Melee Defense and 280 Ranged Defense. With no carbine Equiped I hae 180 Melee Defense.
No carbine = 180 Melee Defense +100 Veg = 280 melee Defense 216 Ranged Defense
With Carbine = 245 +100 Vegespaine = 345 Melee Defense and 280 Ranged defense
My damageby aranged attacks was exactly the same both with no weapon equiped,( melee) and with a weapon equiped.

So it's not defense VS melee weapons, but rather Defense WHEN USING a melee weapon?Seems like the development team screwed this one up bigtime.
I think there trying to say if your a ranged proff the only defense you need to worry about is ranged defense, it will cover ranged attacks and melee attacks aslong as you are equiped with a ranged weapon...?
If that is the case I can actaully make sense of it... If anyone made a screw up its us the players for not realizing sooner.

Uhh, No, Not really.
Instead of calculating defense on the attackers weapon, defense is being calculated by the weapon you hold. That is totally borked...
It's borked because if what you say is true, then my question is why does a ranged prof have melee defense mods? lol.

Exactly, There is a huge thread going on over in the Jedi Forum. WHY DOES DEFENDER GET +90 Ranged defense when they will never hold onto a rifle. Why do I have +245 Melee Defense as a MASTER BH/MASTER CARBS. Hell I would rather have all my melee into range defense then. So I would have +245 Melee+280 Range = 525 Defense. That would be awesome.
It would not be that High since I have +25 Carbine Def and +25 Melee defense but I can still handle +475 Ranged Defense.

I can tell you I tested this LAST WEEK and the foods were working...
I tested this just a few mins ago and it is is not working. If you are a ranged profession with a ranged weapon Vegesparine will do nothing for you. Also make sure to unequip and reequip your weapon after you eat the food for the state to take effect.

How long after you take the food do you have wait before you un-equip and re-equip? If you made a macro that ate the food, how big of a pause would you put after taking in the food before re-equiping? One second? Five?
Narrow question, I know but important to those with food macros.
