Kneel to put on DoT's like the bleed. If you're standing and 'seen' you'll get aggroed right away. If you kneel first, you won't be aggroed until the first bleed goes off, plenty of time to get in close for a flame.

Also, don't forget the power of a supression fire for kiting. I find the launcher pistol is much more accurate and successful for this purpose.

Hmm good stuff for the smuggler dirty fighting tree, I'm thinking of dropping novice medic and going up the first three boxes in that. Not having med worries me a little bit but I figure I could just walk around buffed all the time, heck I'd rather do that anyway.

carbineer is an excellent complement to commando. It gives you no-timer KD and supression fire2.

if you know how to macro, this is great.

although the smuggler dirty fighting tree has more utility in3 boxes than carbineer in 2 whole trees.

'Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefor, it has no boundaries.'
'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

The usual groups of NPCs I'm fighting are Storm Troopers. They will of course not touch you if you aren't declared or don't havea TEF.

The best scenario I have found to take them all goes like this:

  1. Catch them all standing together. Troopers at one of the bases with the three towers typicall do this. There is usually 4-6 of them.

  2. Drink one Flameout for 1100+ health advancement. Take spice of choice.

  3. Set off Flamecone and then run around cleaning up the rest.

Basically, after they're on fire, they're going to die and you just need to help them along with the process by putting them out of their misery.

This is my formula for soloing Stormies. If you can't do number one, then it's a little more risky. After the food and spice, I run up to each one making sure I hit them with a flame special. Then it's all about cleaning up what's left.

Ok - Haven't spouted off about tactics lately, and with the new crop of Rangers, I think it's time.

Hunting is not armoring yourself, getting doc buffed til you are purple, then chugging down some Chef goodies til your HAM is in the ozone, grabbing a weapon more suitable for carnage and then heading out to the city outskirts to whale on durni.

Hunting is you, a good weapon or two, some stims maybe, and a wander off into the weeds, looking for something that maybe you can drop, and maybe can drop you.

Hunting is tactics - knowing how to use Fred's one creature pull. Knowing how to draw a target into a nearby crowd of unfriendlies. Shooting and moving. Using TN to your advantage. And knowing what creatures BAF and which don't, and what DBs and what doesn't. Maskscent is a huge tactical advantage, as are traps.

Tactics are a few basic tricks which keep you alive. It is not standing in one spot, spamming specials, then whining when you fall incapped. Tactics is starting combat, ending it, moving, using traps to advantage, moving more, healing at the right times, and more importantly, freaking running when your fecal matter is weak.

Rangers in and of themselves are not great hunters. Technically, a Rangr can't kill squat. Only our combat classes give us that ability. Tactics is using that combat class to it's fullest extent. Ranged have advantages and disadvantages, so does melee. Regardless, use your weapons as they were meant to be used, and throw in some minor tactical ideas and you can beat about anything.

Tactics is having two BHs (fully armored, and buffed) watch from incap land as you drop the Rancor - electrical resistance is a nasty thing - that just dropped them.

Tactics is dropping 12 Rancors with one shot apiece - ok, the Makloks did the work. But I bled em all, trapped them so the Makloks had an advantage and stepped back, and harvested and looted when they were dead.

Tactics is taking on a herd of 3 Bull Torturs that someone just aggro'd - using traps, TN, and specials, and never getting hit once.

Tactics is knowing that the Peko Albatross is more than a handful for little old me. Calling for help and while waiting for the help to arrive, using nearby mobs to keep it fighting and getting weaker was to my tactical advantage.

No, you don't have to become Sun Tzu, or Patton for that matter. Know what you can and can't do, learn a few tricks, use what you got to your advantage and you can win most of the time. We are way smarter than the AI in the game, start playing that way.

cant even count the number of times when i was a ranger that i would say "dont attack it now!". of course, commandos are just that "uber" so they attack it. the creatures friends come, waste the commando. and as he waiting out the incap, i just run over and say "told ya so". seems that after one group member goes down like that, people begin to listen to the ranger as if he knows something...

Hope some people from other boards read this, how many times have i gone off into the wilds with a group, i've left my bike (I'd usually walk, but got to go with the group) 200m from the target, to stop evaluate the area, position of the target and surrounding beasts, only to have some fool on a swoop fly in to 30m, jump off and start spamming crap all over the place, then bitchin' when no one heals them or joins in! Great post JBMat

One of the great things about tactics... I can pull ravenous tortons, one by one....and dispatch them fairly efficiently all i need is my whacking stick and a couple of stims

I only hunt with my guild and they are all trained up (lair shooting is our biggest problem). Anyone who forgets their training gets no medical help. I will admit we do slaughter hunts where we buff up and cut a swathe of destruction just to do it . If you can believe it, tactics come into play, even in that situation. GOdd work JB, and this topic can never be brought up enough .
