Thread: Anonymous Mission Testing and What I Told the Devs

Sorry if this has already been stated (I haven't read all 8 pages), but how hard would it be for the Devs to give us a target mark command (i.e. /tar mark)? Wouldn't this be a decent compromise? That said, I don't think what Tanks is proposing is out of line at all. Those that insist that it will still lead to gank squads simply do not know how BH missions work. Just looking for some common ground here.
That is quite a good idea, but then you simplify the work for the exploiter who tried to hold mission on their jedi.
Have the Jedi next to the BH, and after taking a mission, do /tar mark and if the jedi get selected, bingo.
Well I played quite devil advocate, I still like your idea in fact.

Er.... What stops them from standing right next to eachother and using tab? They don't have to worry about the mark seeing them as they frantically try to press tab to figure out who to kill.

Tanks, this is no different than it is today. It isn't hard to tell when a BH is approaching. If you are out in the wild, and a blue dot pops up headed toward you, it's probably a BH. If you are in a city, the Jedi can't tell. What's different again??
Difference is that in live I can "/target Jediname", so that when I get to him I can start shooting etc. The way I do it by the time I am noticed on the radar I have already targeted the Jedi, dismounted and have combat initiated.
In Pub. 20 by the time I target the Jedi there is no longer any surprise, if any, at all!!!
Its worse when you go out and find that your target is in a pile of other jedi all challenging you to duel while there is a lair of creatures or NPCs nearby. The name has to be given prior to the arrival of the BH. If first strike is our one major advantage then this patch will remove that "surprise"
So Tanks...
Does it look like they're going to implement it or not? Since NOBODY here thinks it's a good idea I'd hope not... Or are they not telling you anything either?

You can't launch an Arakyd probe if a mark is offline. I guess BH was not one of those professions you grinded out to get your Jedi.

Oh, one other thing. If you really tested thoroughly, and if you weren't so antagonistic to the idea of truly anonymous terminals, your #1 priority for fixing wouldn't be the provision of the name at some point. It would be having an ability to check if the mark is still online, maybe with some kind of button in the mission description that does "VERIFY MARK ONLINE STATUS" and tells you if they are online or offline. Because as the code is right now, when the servers have been up a while the majority of missions on the terminals will be for offline Jedi who have logged on, gone on terms and have long since logged off. With anonymity in place, once a server hasbeen up 24 hours or so you guys will be wasting huge amounts of time looking for online Jedi, unless you get the devs to fix this.
Then again, maybe Tanks doesn't wantthis fixed the proper way, so he can proposehis ownfixalong the lines of"let us have the name so we can check if they are online"....
Tanks, in your post just above this one, responding to my other post, you said there is a 3-5 minute delay between accepting a mission and launching an Arakyd. Meaning, 3-5 minutes wasted time per mission you accept for an offline Jedi. I guess the internal consistency of your own arguments isn't one of those skills required of a correspondent?
What makes you think it's possible to accept a mission for an offline jedi?

And that relates to me wondering why he said "Meaning, 3-5 minutes wasted time per mission you accept for an offline Jedi" how?

you dont have to attack on the first pass or the second or ever, if the oppurtunity doesnt present itself....just get that name on the first pass and flit off, then your ready, at the time of your choosing
dont wait tool long though, the missions decay afer 3 days. which is really lame. Dont we have the stalker title for a reason?
