I think you only get 1/4 the exp from factories. Might as well boot up that macro

Is it possible to use a factory for a skill you don't have?
Lets say I want to mass produce composite armor segments or something else. Assuming I get a schematic from someone who can, I have the resources, and I've placed my own armor factory, will I be able to produce these pieces?
Thanks in advance.
Best,
Lexan

Yes, it's absolutely possible for you to run the factory schematic when you don't have the skill. Make sure, however, that you have the exact components (i.e. same exact types of minerals/chemicals with the same name), including the exact serialed sub-components. I've had a lot of armorsmiths bring their own materials to me in order for me to make a tailoring component for them to run ina factory.
Of course, for all the lurkers out there - a few tips:
- Before you make a schematic, make sure you have enough of everything to do the entire factory run. Do not depend on snagging the rest of resource B before it shifts. Not going to happen.
- If you are getting someone to make you "item x" make sure you bring the crafter enough of the ingredients in order for him to do a few tries - in case of crits.
- if it's a finished product, be prepared for tells. No matter who makes the schematic, the factory owner and not the creator of the schematic will be listed as the "creator" in the examine screen. If the crafter labels the product "xxx by Y" this will mostly solve the confusion.
- Please, use a calculator. Just trust me on this one.
- Date your schematics if they are in a large run. For example, when I make a run of 1000 synth panels I entitle them "Synth panels 1/25." That way if I need a large number ofidentical ones, I know which boxes of synths came from the same run, without looking at the serial numbers. It saves a lot of hassle, particularly since each run of 1000 synth panels produces 40 boxes of 25 panels.

Ok I have a situation I am trying to do. I want to make 40 BER 13 heavy mineral harvs in the factory. For this I need 2870 Structural Modules to make the 287 walls I need. I can only make a max of 1000 SM's ata time. Now do SM's and Wall modules have a serial number? Cause if they do I will need to make 3 batches of SM's 1000, 1000, and 870. They will come out with different serial numbers. When I go to make the walls and make a schematic say out of the 870 batch and then slap the two 1000's batches and the 860 in the ingreadient hopper will it read the 1000 batches as acceptable since you make the schematic out of the 870 batch? cause if that is true you can't do this. You can't make more then a small number of harvs in the factory and the effort is not worth the output.

Both structural modules and Walls have a relaxed requirement. The schematic says "similar".
You dont need identical serials so any mix of hand, factory, crated or not is fine.
The architect profession would be about 10 times as restrictive if it did.
Walls and Generators are my current bane. 200k reactive, 500k aluminium, 200k copper. It's grind level resources but its a damn lot of junk!

If I make a print of 1000 in a factory. Will all crates it produces have the same serial? or a different one per crate?

All crates made from the same schematic have the same serial number. So if you do a run of 1000 components, use one to make a schematic for an item, you can make 999 final items (since most factory made items that need components require all components have the same serial number).
