Hero,

Not to defend art but your post is about as constructive as a poke in the eye. Get past it. Move on. The issue is whether a bio-engineer, or anyone for that matter, should sell a schematic, should give a schematic away, should schematics be tradable....etc.

If you have nothing to add then please spare us the flames.

Thanks

Spazzers,

My original post has a lot to say about whether BEs should sell a schematic. It gives a lot of information about why chefs look for schematics, and what some are willing to do to get them. It attacks no one but Art, who had it coming with his repeated attacks on the entire chef profession.

Thanks, though! I appreciate the general toneof your post. Somepeople are nicer than others.

I came to this forum because I'm a chef in need of a schematic. Now I don't think I'll even ask, for fear of having my brains blown out my ears by some angry BE.

I just thought I'd give you another chef's view on the matter. First of all, it's a free market economy, and I really think people should charge what they want for a schematic, be it nothing at allor a million. Personally, I won't pay even a master over 50k for a schematic, if even that, because I simply can't afford it right now. I've busted my ass to find the resources needed myself, AS WELL AS the resources I need for my food. I have barely started making food since the chef patch because I've had to learn the chef profession all over again, as well as trying to find a BE. Turned out the only MBE in our guild wasn't an MBE anymore because he's holo grinding. Anyway, right now I have no income. Hoping to sell some non-enhanced Vasarian Brandy to finance the tissue schematics, but I can't make too much, or I'll have no resources left for the ENHANCED stuff.

Ah well, enough of that. There's been a few comments like "Would a chef sell me a schematic of brandy? I think not!". Well, did you ever ask? If someone worked hard finding out what resources they need, what stats matters, finding the resources, getting a factory, I wouldn't mind creating a schematic for them at all (not sure what I'd charge, but most definitely not 1k per item). It's just that it doesn't seem anyone's had that idea yet. The only people who ever ask me for schematics ask me as a Master Artisan for components. These tissues of yours are really no different than Electronics modules. An architect cannot be without these modules, and right now, a chef can't be without the tissues. You can sell them ready-made, sure, but why are you so adverse to creating schematics if people are willing to find the resources and pay for the factory run themselves?

When saying this I'm obviously adressing those of you who won't make a schematic at all, or severely over-charge for it. You're welcome to do as you will, but I won't buy from you, simply because I can't afford it and will likely go to one of my guildmates, even though that means I'll get less good results and they recommended me to find an MBE. I will however most likely get another alt and grind it to MBE, just so that I won't have this problem again. I already have a tailor who can make trim schematics for me, another subcomponent needed for a chef component. As for those of you who're willing to make a schematic for below 50k, I salute you, and feel free to contact me if you're on Bria becauase I NEED you. 50k is my limit for a schematic, I really can't afford more. If cheap, I'll give you some of the food once it's done.I do that toeveryone who helps me out withmy cheffing (awonderful resource dealer friend of mine gave me most of what I neededto grindchef, for example - I wonder if other resource dealers bash her for this act of friendliness?).I also have some pre-patch food to trade with if you're interested.

Ethics are not a personal and private thing...lol, where did you get that.

Ethics is what allows people to co-exist.

Think about it... if I gave schematics to everyoneon the server, then the BE selling stuff would be cheated. You are describing that as a personal choice? I am talking about a world where we live by the golden rule. The golden rule does not allow you to do things in total disreguard to others.

Lol, ethics is a personal choice

On your server, you are either going to have a dog eat dog situation, or one of professional respect. Which would you prefer... and how much does it cost to buy you off?

Ok, I'll call your bluff. How would you like to sell me a brandy schematic for 50k? I just moved into a PA and city where there is a novice chef grinding away, primarily so he can supply his pvp brothers with brandy. Just this morning he was begging for people to use his components and food for uxp. I'm sure he would jump through a wall at an opportunity to make me some medium additives and alcohol if I supply everything else and we can split the bounty. I just need a little time to harvest some gemstone and fruits and we're all set. Deal?

Just out of curiosity how much does meat go for on your servers? 20cpu, 30cpu for the high OQ/PE stuff? How much does flora sell for? 3cpu for decent stuff? So assuming 20cpu for the meat thats 400k there, 3cpu for the flora thats 240k for a total of 640k resource costs (we'll call this low). Not too sure on factory times but I think its like almost 3 days to do the BE run, but even at that its only 4 or 5 more k for factory maint, and another 2 or 3k tops for power so we'll call it a nice even 650k total cost to make a full factory run. I'm gonna call 50k per crate a fair price, though I may get flamed for this later, putting the gross earnings for a full factory run at 2mil, and a net earning of 1.35mil. So at this rate you are charging 1350creds per use of the schematic. Now to be fair here the chef DID gather all the resources, and he WILL be using his own factories to make this, so you don't even need to own one or worry about getting more. So I recomend giving the chefs a nice 25% discount on the cost of the schematic.

1000 creds per use sounds about fair to me, though you may have to adjust this for your own servers economy.

Actually, I am on starsider, but I would be willing to pay for schematics as long as you provide the resources. And my price is, and always will be....2k per schematic. Keep in mind, if you want to make 1000 casks of bio-enhanced brandy, you need 7 schematics. So that would be14,000 total. But that is what I personally think of as a fair price for the 5 minutes it would take me to do that...provided I don't supply any resources myself.

Just to explain myself, this person still needs to collect:

  • 20,000 Cerial

  • 150,000 Crystaline Gemstone

  • 2000 Trim

  • 20,000 berries

  • 20,000 Fruit

  • 15,000 Water

  • 1000 Additives

And once he is done with all that....he will need more brandy. It is a consumable resource that will need to be replenished. So he will either come back to me or buy it from another chef. It isn't like a vehicle where some you buy one and that should last you for a long time.

1000 brandies is just a drop in the bucket of what chefs have to produce to meet domands. I won't be taking anything away from any chefs.

And that is one thing that bio-engineers have to understand...1000 additives is a drop in the bucket. If you can't provide the meat or the meat is too expensive, fine....sell us the schematics. We will go through it in a week (or less) and come back for more.

Sure thing, Mr Dent. I'd love to make you a schematic. Send me a forum PM when you're done collecting resources and I'll get back to youwith my ingame name so we can get in touch.

That was an excellent contribution to the debate, it seems that quite deservedly you have found yourself a deal as well as a contact

What's more you show I think why BEs should be making an effort to work with and help Chefs, most of whom are thoroughly deserving, but a few of whom have come across rather unfortunately in recent posts

So, You do all the work, you make 1350 per use of schematic. I do all the work and you expect to make 1000 per use of the schematic? You need to lay off the drugs.

Since this debate started, I now refuse to sell resources to a BE unless they give me a 1000 use schematic (I bundle them and sell them to Chefs w/ the neccessary meat and flora). It's not that I need their schematics to move my product, it's that I want to ensure I'm not selling to BE's like ArthurDentonBria and Greenstock.
