Thread: What do YOU think?
well i am a RL Musicain and have been for almost 20 yearsand let me tell u now there is nothing better that hearing wot u or ur band r doing at that moment when u r playing either in front of a crowd or in a rehearsal. so that in its self is wot u would call a buff or a ( BUZZ ) so if u either play in front of a crowd or on ur own or as a request u get something from it... ive performed for people as a request and as for business (ie GIGS ) and from doing so u get aBUZZ from it, providing u did a good job, and that buzz should reflect the same principles as getting a self BUZZ ( BUFF ) .... ive played in front of 5000 people at the isle of wight cows week ( festival ) and i got BUFFED !!!!!!!! ![]()

Whether to let entertainers self-buff has nothing to do with how well it models reality. In real life, listening to music or watching dance does not increase your mental powers, not really. Record stores would then have really smart people working there instead of being the employer of last resort (this is a joke so if you work at Tower or Virgin Records do not feel the need to defend yourself). I think this issue has more to do with what your vision of dancer is. I think there is a segment of the dance community that wants entertainers to just entertain and for whom the thought of a dancer or musician as a secondary profession desireable to a combat profession is just repulsive. If you want to argue that there should be no mind buffs for entertainers, that is easier for me to accept.I do not get whythere is somehow a reason to suspend disbeliefon the proposition that entertainment increases your mental powersbut that you cannot suspend disbelief about who gets theeffect of that buff.

Ilooli, donot forget that this is a game, a sci-fi fantasy game in fact, and that, imho, using "real life" in any argument about it is often pointless, but to address some of your points...
There is actually evidence that listening to certain types of music while taking mental ranking test does improve one's chances to score better, and even if there wasn't, you're point is moot because Musicians and Dancers do in fact do this in the game and that will never change.... and to allow them to use this skill on everyone but themselves simply is not fair.
thank you
Should Musicians in SWG be able to buff their own focus and willpower?
YES
Should Dancers in SWG be able to buff their own mind pool?
YES

First of all, comparing Professions in a virtural computer game to real life is a waste of time imho. But I'll add my answers to your two other questions.

From a realism standpoint Im oposed to dancers/musicians buffing themselves not because they can't watch or lsiten to themselves that argument is absurd. I am against it because a dancer/musicaian can not let their mind go by jsut enjoying the show they are working and thinking about there next cue and their next costume change ect. Now the point brought up about the entertainer "high" is a very valid one and one worth concidering. I would go so far as to say from a realism stand point I no longer have an arguement against it. I would think that from this stand point and entertainer could buff themselves though I would ask that it take longer then buffing a customer. I may retract that when Sony gets done deciding just how long it will take though.
From a game standpoint I like that we can't buff ourselves because I think an entertainer relying on another entertainer for buffs is well within the spirit of the class. I don't care if doctors can do it, that is not a valid reasonwhy we should be able to do it.
All that said I agree that it is most likely a code isue and not an intended isue and most likely despite my objections we will soon have this ability.

Someone pointed out a long time ago (sorry can't remeber who) that not being able to buff ourselves is most likely a coding isue rather then intended (the game gets confused when the buffer and the bufee are the same person) that is probly the case and one day we probly will be able to buff ourselves. That said if it was up to me we would not get this ability because I feel that having to get the buff from someone else is more in the spirit of the class. If I want to the buff I go to a cantina and do some dancing while I get it that means I have to give to get.
1. It is a Coding Issue. That was a Dev quote from RM. I've read the original in the corre forum, it was verbatim.
2. I'm sure Sultrina knows this, but just a little note for those who are new... you can not actually receive a buff while Dancing. You will still most likely get a passive buff while teamed with other Dancers and Musicians, but I'm not sure on the mechanics of this. *shrug* Perhaps some other Dancer can explain this better than I can.
3. The 19 answers does have new information on this topic which have not been posted to the public forums yet. I can't say what was said or give any details yet because I don't know how much it will change before it is posted. I am confident it will shed new light on the subject when it does get posted. Hopefully we might get to see it as early as Monday. ![]()
Note: I'm revamping our links and FAQs so I am all over the forum... please excuse my thread ninjoring. ![]()
