yeah i know what you are saying, even after getting to 3000 i notice a difference in how much xp i get per hour. The speed mods are a great thing, not to mention the flurry attack that will come with the 4th level box.
still if im only fighting 1 or 2 mobs i just use head hit, less force cost than area attacks it seems.

if you feel you dont need it then go right to sabers 4. sabers 4 is the best next box short of MLS.

Well, why would you bother not getting a skill that allows you to grind xp faster just for the choice of getting another skill that gives you another ability just cause its quicker?

If you have a -8 or -9 crystal you wont need channel force. I know I didn't until I started hunting Krayt. Nothing like running out of force in 2-3 mins of spamming my 3rd gen /sigh

Although I can't answer your question about what to do with the points (I have been MD, novice Swords, Merchant3001 for some time and like it), I can say that you are correct about needing 0240 at a minimum. However, the more typical template is 0440 since the 2nd branch gives you your wound treatment skill. If you go 0440, you will lose approximately 10% on your buffs. I don't know how much more you would lose by going 0240, but I would expect it would be another 10-15% of the master doc figure...
Good luck with your new template...

As stated to be able to buff worth a darn you will want to get 0440 doc. At this skill you can buff, use stims, rez, and heal stats. Thats about it. You can not cure poison/disease.
By dropping down to 0440 you will have 47 points rather than 18 left over.
If you like to PvE I would pick up 0430 fencer so you get better def. You would be one mean tank.
Or go 4000 tk and keep 3440 doc. This way you can forceofwill, power boost, and meditate with tk and still be able to cure poison. Then nice thing about disease is you can ignore it untill after the fight and then meditate it away as well as any wounds.
If you like to PvP I would pick up 3004 pike so you can land some fire dots. (buy up a few skill tapes and nice pikes). Land the dot then flop over to your hammer. Very nice if you going Jedi hunting.
You will not have enough point to do much as a CM. If you really want to dable in CM then go 4004 CM and 3000 doc and M. Swords. This is a very nice build. You can toss nice range dots, use area stims, cure poison and stats. The down side is you have to buy CM meds which can be hard to find. The other down side is you have very little def. but know less def than you already have as mdoc/mswords so you will no know what your missing.

I was talking to my guildies about pistoleer for pve, and they all seemed to agree that it was not very good. they told me to ditch the bh pistols / m pistoleer for bh carbines / m carbineer. what should i do? i really like pistoleer right now, but they told me carbineer is so much better. argh. im confused now. i guess ill just wait for the curb and see.

Really it depends. Get a good scatter pistol (krayt enhanced perhaps) and you can do some damage to a krayt. Get a good launcher pistol, there goes those pesky turrets and AT-STs (if your reb). Carbines is fun, ive played it before, but I prefer pistols as its faster and if you know what your doing you can hit for more damage.

I don't know what to tell you really as I have never done carbines. Pistols are alot of fun tho and I don't think I will ever switch for anything else now.

As a master pistoleer without BH pistols or Dirty Fighting, I can tell you that in PvE, anything with medium AP or over is tough to damage.
I make up for it by stacking poisons to inflict damage, but if you are looking to make a template that can dish out damage to high end mobs then Pistoleer isnt really what you're after.
I hear speedcapped carbineers can dish out a fair bit of damage.

If you are staight pistoleer without the other professions then if you are looking for high damage that ain't us and never will be quite frankly.
However, if you have the other professions pistoleer is a fun class to play and like its been said, if you know what you are doing you will be fine.
If you enjoy a challenge then pistoleer is the place for you.

If you have a good Pistols Template, probably with BH Pistol and Smuggler Pistols then there is a lot of fun things you can take on in PVE - It not all Tusken Warlords and Baz Snitches
Here are a few of the higher end creaturesyou should be able to take on solo.
Force NPC's on Dantooine - Medium Armour, 80% resists, 25-35k HAM
Giant Kimogila onLok - Medium Armour, 20-100% Resist, 70k Ham
Enhanced Klikniks and Kiwis in Geo Caves - Medium Armour, 5-95% resists, 30-45k Ham
Stoneskin Hanadak on Endor - Medium Armour, 60-100% resists, 90-100k Ham
Ancient Bull Rancor on Dathomir - Medium Armour, 60-100% resists, 20-30k Ham
Now tell mePistoleers are no goodfor PVE
Krayts and NS Elders were never meant to be solo'd - It seems these day that any profession that can't solo them is considered "no good for PVE" /sigh
