Thread: A message from the BE designer
Thanks for the responses. But they bring up a few more questions:
WHEN will we be able to get milk, eggs and seafood in bulk? Factories don't help if we need over a thousand of something that we have to gather 2 at a time. Since I make stimpacks, I know how hard it is to find 1600 herbivore meat to make a single batch of high-quality stims. It will be 100 times harder to make a single batch of something requiring eggs and seafood, and bloody impossible for milk. I don't see why you are spending valuable dev time trying to figure out how to jury-rig these resources in when you could just change the recipes in the database to something that can be gathered with harvesters. Our profession is already disadvantaged compared with the other crafters enough without requiring us to use resources that you don't make available in sufficient quantities. How you felt you could get away with not providing these resources after you got rid of the Farmer profession, I have no idea.
In short, if you are not planning on offering egg, milk and seafood harvesters, then you are not currently working on solving the problem.
Lastly, one question I forgot to ask before: In the long response from the BE dev a couple of weeks ago, he specifically said that BE components would no longer be able to be added to armor. Yet the response from yesterday indicates that there is not going to be any kind of change like that, he still lists the bleed defense, etc. that gets added to Reinforced Fiber Panels which are used to construct armor. Has it been decided that you will continue to allow BE products in armor after all or are these components going to be used in different tailor products instead?
**** Now the question is, how is my newbie grinding character going to get her hands on a food factory? I should be able to make novice bio today. First a zillion missions for money, then a trip off planet, then running around to find an architect...at least I just met someone grinding for tailor. Looks like I have my work cut out for me.
*shrug* Factories run 50k on Bria (give or take) - I'd imagine roughly the same everywhere else....get a weapon, go do some missions....20-40 missions and you have your money....not a difficult concept.

Tissue Engineering
- Medicine Use & Taking Cover were removed
Could you kindly explain why this was removed? Too powerful? Or didn't you get it to work as intended?
I'm not sure what taking cover was supposed to do, but medicine use seems pretty clear and I know many, many ppl who would have loved to see this finally working. So why was it removed?
Could you give us an explanation about this? Thanks.
Holo, please tell me the additional creature we will be able to create will include:
1. A lot of armored creatures. We have so few and everyone want armored ones.
2. Creatures with ranged attacks. Unless I am mistaken the brackaset is the only ranged attacker we can currnetly make (ok, blurrgs have a ranged attack too, I think, but cannot be used). Please add more.
3. Creatures with a poison attack. We have none and people really kind of like those.
4. Creatures with disease attack. Ok, so no one can have these yet (except maybe diseased gubbers) but I can dream.
5. Can we get some more NON-lizard like creatures. I am so sick and tired of all the lizards. Oh, and perhaps no more cats...too many cats in the game.
6. Most importantly...I hope we get a large number of creature that normally fill the CL void between brackasets and rancors/gurrecks.
Sorry, Holo, yet another question...In terms of the new list of creatures, can we be assured thatALL the creatures we can make will be tamable?
Ok, another one Holo...If I start stockpiling DNA from a specific CL now will those samples be valid after the patch is put in. Along the same subject, if I create several blurrgs, right now, using crappy DNA, and then store the deeded blurrgs will I be able to sample and get CL 50 DNA from those blurrgs post patch?
DNA sample request...The final creature product will contain all the critical stats, can we please have those same critical stats on the DNA sample? If nothing else, can we please have the CL available on the DNA sample?<- I really think this is necessary with the proposed changes.

An intern wouldn't have any clue as to what exactly to tell you (or the correspondent). In fact, *I* don't have much clue of what to tell you--these messages take the actual dev working on the system to write them.

Every week to ten days wouldn't hurt and would only take about 10 minutes of your Intern's time.
Holo,
Thank you for addressing and clearing up what was an unbelievably ignorant and insulting statement directed towards one of your programmers. Even though I don't agree with all of the changes your team has made, I'm sure they're working hard, and it's nice to see you striving to maintain a constructive atmosphere here on the boards.

And now World of warcraft is coming closer and closer...
You know, people keep quoting this, but if anyone thinks that WoW is going to be released and NOT have practically the same problems that we see with SWG, they're delusional. An MMORPG is a thousand times more complex than a regular game, whether single or multiplayer, and this is going to be Blizzard's very first one! We may not all like SOE, but they have experience and they have a very large staff, even if that's not apparent to us when waiting on tickets.
Personally, I think WoW is going to be worthless the first 4-6 months after release. Don't get me wrong, I like Blizzard, I have played all three of the regular Warcraft games and loved Starcraft, but the game just isn't going to make it.
Back on subject, I hope the creature fixes get in there in the future, but this is a great start! If all of this really makes it into the next update, I think we'll be much better off than we are now. At least a fair bit of our profession will be working then, and I'm willing to wait an extra update for the creature fixes if we do indeed get more than double the number of creature appearances than we have right now, not to mention them actually working! ![]()

I envy you guys. Maybe you could let DE borrow your Dev for a few days?
Just so we're on the same page here, I'll be the first person to agree that DE has a ways to go, you guys DO need updates and you need much better droids and modules to work with so you have a better market, not ot mention more useful things. Right now though at least you guys can build craft droids or field medical droids or such. Our profession has been 95% broken, the *ONLY* thing that actually works in Bio-Engineering right now are the pet stims!
So please show a little bit of understanding?
Like I said, I agree, DE needs some lovin' and attention, a good deal of it, but we're by far and away the single most broken profession in the game. We're not simply worthless, we don't even work except for those new stims. ![]()
Thanks a bunch Holo! Though I'm a bit dissapointed the creatures won't make it, I've had it in the back of my mind that it wouldn't anyway. It's an ambitious project reworking our cloning line and if all goes well, sounds worth the wait to get it right and I think you're doing the right thing waiting to get it right. On everything else, great - all except the rare resources.
Some of the tissues I would want the most are the tissues that are the hardest to get. We really need better ways to get some of these. How about fish farms as a new harvester, or fish traps for scouts or rangers, not new ideas as I've seen both before. I've seen someone mention using a bird cage to trap an avian creature as a means to get eggs. Milk- my grandfather had a bunch of cows that he would slap milk machines on at the crack of dawn, but we really have no domesticated creatures here. Killing endless plasma theives in hopes of a couple milk drops is just no fun. Perhaps an idea similar to the bird cage. A trap that requires a female creature as a target. Once captured the female creature will provide X number of milk per day. Make something like this usable by a scout since it seems it would fit well in a trapping line. Maybe we could even bring DE's into the mix, many of those creatures are big, shouldn't you need a binary load lifter to move an animal cage around with the animal inside?
All in all, the new list looks great. You've shown you've been listening and I see a lot of things in that list that originated from the BE community. Please, if you're going to give us tissues in factories, don't wait to give us the means to gather the resources.
Holo be careful what you say i can see 1 million sig's now with this
