I'm making a fortune AND I don't charge an arm and a leg
20k per crate (thinking of going to 25k) for 80+ nutrition Broad Spectrum Nutrients
Why aren't BE's making a fortune? most of 'em aren't businesspeople... they wouldn't know the hopper of a harvester from the power input.... 5cpu for flora, gimme a break... harvest your ownflora for 1/4 cpu(OR LESS). Meat, yes meats a killer, here's a neat little trick to gets you meat for a fraction of the cost of buying from someone else who uses the same method to get their meat:
Make friends with that chef you're selling 1000's of nutrients to and get a case of Vasarian brandy casks (if he's not making casks he's a foold) and a case of Vegash (in the 30+ range) (free hopefully)
Figure out how to use the other 100+ skill points you didn't spend on BE to Master a combat profession (TKA for example)
Buy some good armor (this will last a LOOONG TIME)
Pay a doc 5-10k for Buffs
Fly to Dathomir
Drink a Brandy
Hop on a bike
Drive to that spot you used to sample Rancor DNA
Drink another brandy (you wanna offset the brandy usage so you can drink another as soon as the first wears off)
BEAT THE RANCORS TO DEATH
Eat Vegash
Harvest
BEAT MORE RANCORS TO DEATH
Harvest...
You get the picture... 120k Dathomirian harvested at a rate of about 10k per hour at Hunting III, WITHOUT Vegash(no, I'mnot a BE, thats my wife's job, I just do all the business work).

I just finished a factory run on Scylla of 85% medium nutrients. The meat was 900+ in Flavor, PE, and OQ to get that, the flora was in high 800s.. Be my guess on how much that meat cost. That will probably be the last run for a while.
Now, need a buyer - lol.
That meat is expensive b/c you have to hunt on freakin' Rori to get it. Its a lot easier to hunt the dath wild and sell +83's.
Also, you fail to articulate the true cost of harvesting your own flora. There is still a time commitment involved to survey, place, maintain harvestors. It is not zero cost credit-wise, nor zero cost time-wise. You don't just drop the harvester down and 500,000 units of flora will pop up. You have to continually go back to it every other day to make sure the spawn hasn't shifted. That takes time, and time is the most valuable, most expensive resource in any business endeavor.
You sell an entire factory run for 800,000 credits, but your true profit margin is very, very slim because you do not factor in time. You've also put in a substantially greater amount of time into crafting a single run, than a businessman BE who buys all his meat. The BEs selling the tissue for 50k-60k a crate, the ones who bought all their resources, can crank that stuff out of the factory without spending one second pulling the trigger of a gun, nor firing up the speeder to survey and maintain harvestors. If a BE bought the meat at 25-50 cpu, and the flora at 5-25 cpu, the profit on a factory run would still approach 800,000 credits: the amount you're selling your crates for.
When you sell the tissue for 20k, you're actually just selling the tissue at resource cost, and giving away 30k credits worth of your time for free. The successful BE businessmen will be the ones who can best manage their time. They also drive the economy by giving hunters a job. The BEs who gather all their own resources cannot make more than one or two factory runs a week, ... and that's if they spend all their time hunting and doing harvestor runs.

I am on lowca, It takes 20k of HQ meat to do a run of those I think. I just finished my third run. I just got done buying another 100k of meat for 2 million.. I have 6 heavy harvestors gathering flora on Yavin to supply the 55k flora needed for each run.
I started a BE on Starsider and quite frankly I have found a totally destroyed mercantile. I cannot find anything at an affordable price. I could not find a house at any of the 200 places I went around Theed. No weapons. There are no decent pets at a decent price, I had to gather the resources myself to get a tissue made (tensile), and now cannot find a tailor to make it... sheesh. most resources go for 10 cpu. Not much is available and what is, is not that good and over priced. Most good resources are not harvested.... This really makes me appreciate my shop on Lowca.

Selling crates of the tissue for 20k a crate will only net you 800,000 credits for a full run. It's not that others are not good businessmen, it's that you're subsidizing the true resource, labor and time costs by using the generosity of a chef friend basically giving you free brandy/vegash. Also to get 10,000 units of meat an hour, you'd have to kill one every 50 seconds or so, ... and not normal rancors, you'd have to kill the baddie rancors to get 10,000 units of meat an hour. The 10,000 unit of meat figure is also based on the assumption that you'd be lucky that your server has a spawn of good quality meat on something big like a rancor. You'd be screwed if the meat you want comes off of a kwi. I think killing a baddie rancor every 50 seconds without stopping to heal is a bit of an exaggeration. No one can kill a rancor every 50 seconds, non-stop, consistently. One always has to heal and run to find the next rancor. You also fail to calculate the time sink you'd have to find a master doctor to buff you, wait in line, and wait for the actual buffing to happen.

Ah, opportunity costs... so what could I do that would make me more money?
Lets break down the time it takes to actually gather resources myself.Setting upharvesters, an hour surveying every 5-7days and 10-15minutes every 5-7 days toclean out the hoppers. 2 hours for the meat for a single batch.10-15 minutes to travel around from hunting to harvester planet to home to make a schematic and walk to a factory nearby to start it all running. Resource cost? I posted it already 25k per 1000 units... thats what it costs me out of pocket to get the resources to make Broad Spectrum Nutrients. Lets say 4 hours of my time (if we really stretch things out) to make a batch that sells for 800k credits (95% of which is profit). What could I do in 4 hours to make as much, guaranteed? There's no guarantee in 'uberloot', and missions certainly wouldn't net me 800k in 4 hours.. And the time on harvester placement and maint usually pulls enough resources in 1-1.5 days for 1000 units and I will have the harvesters down for 5-7 days, so I expect that time harvesting to spread out across at least 4 factory runs. The only constraint on production is the factory speed and how often I can go out for 2 hours to hunt meat.
I was pulling 20k meat in 2 hours, my Action bufftimer was just over 2 hours when I applied it at the outpostand I was fighting every rancor I saw. You're minimizing Youths and Gnarled rancors, which go down really fast but only have 1/3 the meat of an Enraged bull. Takingdown 5 youths pulls over 500 meat and is faster than taking out an enraged bull. And I only haveHunting II and I wasn't using Vegash which would increase my harvests.
As for having to move to other meat, there's always a window when you can collect a large amount of a good resource to stockpile for the future. And as resources shift new meat will always be around that can be harvested in quantity, but it might not be on Dathomir.
"Why aren't BE's making a fortune supplying your tissues to Chefs and Tailors ??"
If the ones who post on this forum are representative of the general BE population then the answer is because they are poor businessmen.
Instead of paying a price for meats etc they waste their time hunting it.
In the process of saving a few up front credits it kills the profits over time because they can't do any kind of decent volume.
The person Annzac who posted from Bloodfin(who i don't really know that well).. that person buys quite a bit of his meats and such. I don't know how much he gets free or does himself buthe buys quite a bit. ( and often are one of the ones setting the going rate). He makes a ton of cash because he's always selling and re- stocking. Unlike some of you who in your cheapness to pay the going rate for certain resources are cutting off your nose to spite your face. The down time is what's killing your profits. buy the majority of your meats.. raise prices to reflect that cost if you have to and constantly have thingsselling.
For many of us its not a "waste," its a fun change of pace. Variety is after all the spice of life. I agree though that you won't make as much money doing this (although if you've got the free time, why not).

Very true. I certainly didnt mean to imply that you shouldn't hunt some of your own stuff. Just that it wasn't as profitable in the big picture.
Well I sell a lot cheaper to my guild members (50k a crate) then I would to the public (75k a crate) all are around +80 and I dont charge more for a +82.
I have made 2 full factory runs and have a 3rd in. Botch factory runs have been bought by Master Chefs in my guild. If anyone wanted anything they can send me a tell.
As for the meat, I tend to pay my guildmates for it, the are usually working on a profession so they dont NEED the $$ but I pay em a decent amount, not 40cpu though, that is for sure!
