sounds like you attempted to tame and you had a failed tame. One outcome of a failed tame is the creature will attack you.

A creature that sense your mask scent may attack you (have had it happen 3 times and non aggressive can agro you too) but the mask scent icon goes away.

Mask scent is almost useless now for anything but taming because of the aggro. It is much safer to run around aggressives than to leave it on.

freaking mask scent works like a charm now. Its sooo funny to see groups get ganked by impossible mobs and me just sit there watching, masked and not getting touched...

I love it now, rarely ever broken except for uber high mobs and even then i can burst run out of their range...

Yes, Maskscent is seriously bugged. Though it does not drop, stalking creatures will still stalk and attack you from 60m away!

Not only that, but my girlfriend plays a scout and she is constantly aggroed by Non-aggressive creatures if her maskscent is detected!

As a Master Ranger, I cant walk through a herd of Feral Banthas without being detected! About the only thing it is actually working against is Kreetles... yay.

This has probably been answered but I cant find it. How high of mask scent do you need to get close to mutant rancors? I have a full suit of +14 and im still having problems getting close to them. And does crawling or walking help with getting closer?

Thanks for the help.

Don't bother wearing more than +25. That's all that actually applies anyway.

Crawl. Barring that, walk.

Anything that's vicious can have a chance to break through Mask Scent/Camouflage at any level. A stupidkreetlecan break it even if you're over 100 (had this happen when I was briefly a Ranger wearing 25+ mask scent/camo). Just get it as high as you can and hope.

Bothans have a racial bonus to camouflage that does not get included in the +25 mod bonus, by the way.

The best way I have found so far is get at least +15 mask scent clothing. Find a group of mutant spawns and crawl your way toward them. Getting past 1 mutant isn't too hard. Getting past a group of them is very hard to do. One trick is get close enough to agro them but not close enough to get hit by their bleed attack. They will start fighting each other at this point. Stand back at max range and start shooting the one that is loosing (good way to get alot of meat). Keep doing this till there is only one left and make you way toward it. If you time it right you will get close enough in before the others start respawning. Once they respawn there is a high chance that you will not be noticed and should be able to get several samples before they get pissed at you again. At this point run away and start the process again.

Standing gives you the default maskscent stat. Crouching increases it by 25%. Prone increases it by 50% (thats 25+25) Soon as you start moving it drops a bit. If your walking you'll find its effectivenessdrops by 25%, if you run it drops by 50%. The best solution is to actually crawl up to them.

These were the numbers quoted when they changed how maskscent worked on the scout forum several months ago.

The nice thing about Mutant Rancors is they are slow. If you get aggro you can safely run away spamming /peace until the aggro clears. You don;t evne need burst run to do it.

The not so nice thing about Mutant Rancors is how hard it is to get a successfull sample from them.

I got lucky this morning and logged in to the middle of a pack of Merek Harvesters on Endor. After writing down the /loc I popped up at the cloning center, renewwed my insurance and happily ran back to begin sampling them. Took me a while to sort out which lair was theres as there was a mereak assasin lair, a boar wolf cub lair, and a bark mite burrower swarmling lair all in the same area. Anyway, I got about 20 samples of Merek Harvester and I don't think I am going back to Mutant Rancor. The Mereak Harvester DNA produced far better clones then the Mutant Rancor DNA did...

I'm ExpIV with +25 mask scent clothing.

I just hover around the 60ish meter mark and keep trying.

I don't ever walk or crawl.

Its just patience to get it to stick.

Heck I got it to stick on an Ancient Bull Rancor without even trying.... because it didnt' break my MS I went up to try sampling a few times to faillures. I wouldn't ever try to get close to the big bad'uns on purpose though becuase it takes so many attempts to finally get there... this was just an accidental "Oh neat".
