Thread: Getting to know you and your profession!

Chef is actually in pretty good shape post-revamp. (I've been a chef since release and man were we borked back in the early days!) The few major issues we have, have already been well covered in this thread, so I'll just add my uncommon beef: I agree with the guy who said he misses Wedding Cake!

See, most of my business comes from PvPers and PvEers who are trying to min/max their characters with my stat and skill buffs. But I also get an occasional order just for fun - to decorate someone's bar or dining room with food, or to cater a party or wedding. The latter presents some challenges. I can always make Air Cake and rename it "Wedding Cake", and make veronian berry wine and rename it "Champagne." But these are skill foods, so you can only eat/drink one, and then have to wait till the effect wears off to drink another. So while they look good, having to stop at one bite of cake and one sip of booze is really an immersion-breaker. How is someone supposed toparty whenthey pick up a drink and get told, "You are already under the influence of this food. Eating more will not offer any benefit" or whatever the message is? And more often than not people don't even eat the stuff, since it takes up stomach room that they might need out hunting after the party.

Before the chef revamp, we had this great food called "Wedding Cake." There was no benefit or penalty for eating it - it was a recipe just for fun. This recipe was inexplicably removed in the revamp, and everything we can make now is purely utilitarian. We need our fun foods back!Somethingwith zero filling and no stats, with a really groovy graphic and a fun description. Having at least one food and one drink like this would put some of the RP value back into the chef profession.

Carbineers get:

Weak offense

Weak defense

Redundant specials

Slow speed

Medium accuracy

1 weapon with AP2 which has an incredible min-max gap.

Ability to lay lots of states (which get resisted all to often)

Multiple knockdowns (arecompletely negated from 1 charge thakitillo which the opponent ate to counter the melee professions no less)

The ability to boost its attributes by going up the Bounty Hunter tree (with a significant point cost)

*the first few are some of the most important ones.

We need new dmg types and/or an AP3 weapon to become more viable in pvp. I do ok, but Ive spent millions of credits on krayt carbines and (prior to picking up BH) attachments. Not everyone can do this. Also, speed and HAM costs are a large issues. Please fix these

I think that carbineers should get a little better defense rolls. The defense rolls we have now are just absurd. Especialy when you compare it to pistoleer...they get at least +40 to almost everything. And we only have defense vs intimidate and knockdown and even then its crap. Hope to see some changes. Thanks devs.

Elite = Energy
It would be nice, but having a different damage type AP2 is a higher priority imo.

Id rather have the dxr6 made AP2.

I have been a MCM for over a year now.I had the most fun in the early days being neededby my group of friends when we went against harder PVE critters or NPC's for my area/ranged stims to just keep them alive. I did not get to help much in the killing process but at least I felt needed. This was before buffs and uber armor was in great use. With better armor and lower level buffs I was still helpful if my friend(s) was mobbed by every NPC and I could then return fire with my rifleman skills.

(I remember MCM's getting PAID to go with groups when attacking large level MOBS or entering caves etc. I want that usefulness again).

Resource Spawns/Crafting:

Enough said about resource spawns. I had spent a year gathering enough medical and combat medic resources to try and open a shop to sell lower level poisons/stims to those who dabbled in combat medic only to see that economic support of my toon vaped with subsequent changes in our and other professions. Oh well...back to mindless killing of NPC spawns.

Reliance on MD's to make schematics needed for our components...nuff said again.

One point I get tired about the game is just when you get the Master Combat Medic title, spend time to find all your resources, get a good crafting station and crafting tool and now you need fire spider venom, rancor bile and $20M in tapes just to make poisons/disease packs that will stick and tick. Mastering aprofession should give you the necessary tools to be master of your profession and not be negated by some uber gaming troll who has no life. I can see tapes to help slow or lessen affects of poisons/diseases but notto make them immune. If these defense stackers are going to walk like tanks then maybe they should only get to move and fire like them (jedi not included). Someone in composit armor in PvP should be like those bank robbers in LA in assult body armor...tuff for just one person to take out but many will overtake them...they can not move as fast or run you down and are still vulnerable to fire from heavy weapons.

We do not craft anything of value for the masses. I have to balance out whether or not I want to sell components to docs for credits that will negate any effectiveness of my profession on the battle field. No one is going into PvP without getting their poison/disease buffs unless they are those defense/tape stacker that are not vunerable to any attacks.

Put the COMBAT/MEDIC back into Combat Medic.

I liked the idea of some type of weapon to use our products on the battle field.

Well done people with the thoughts. May be there will be a reason for us to keep this profession. Until then there is JtL BETA.

I think a huge issue for all ranged professions is that, compared to our melee counterparts, our defenses are underpowered.

Melee has Center of Being, we have Tumbling. Both increase your passive defenses, but only melee can actually use them, due to the fact that ranged cannot use special attacks while tumbling.

Also, counterattack appears to be broken.

Finally, in my mind, carbineers do not get enough defenses compared to other professions.

Just my 2 cents.

And thanks for posting here!

yeah, defenses are the main problem. I had to pick up pistolTEch for the defenses cause i couldn't stay standing vs. a melee stacker for anything.

cold damage would be neat... to my knowledge, the sg82 is the only gun that does cold... and its a rifle..

i wouldn't go as far as to request stun damage, but.... whats with restraint? i havent seen anything with that... so why not stick us carbineer with it?

well I hope I am not a day late and dollar short on posting seeing how the origional was posted a couple weeks ago. I have been a MCM for the last 8 months and have an opinion or two on the profession. I was one of the few MCM's on Bria for a while now we are a dime a dozen. For those of us who dont have the profession soley for PvP there are a few problems. Yes I agree with most everyone that has posted about the problem with doc skills edging in on our territory and that we are essentallyuseless in PvE (unless you get an unbuffed group) and now with the great buffs we aren't needed unless we are doing the DWB or a vette.

One of my biggest frusterations has been not having any defense. There is a catch-22, we are to be on the battlefield and heal/poisen/disease but we are not to fight. But what about defending ourselves. More then once I have been out with a group doing my heal thing and gotten aggro'd and while I am weakly defending myself looking for help to step up the rest of my group is fading fast. I cant get a heal off because heals are part of the combat que. I disagree with this, I think that the heal should over-ride what you have loaded into your combat que, even if you clear it you can't get a heal off very fast at all.

Yes and the stuck we seem to have for 4 sec is not much fun in that situation either. I finally picked up swords just so I can defend myself. More then once I have used an area heal and gotten TEF'd just to have an opposing faction take me out as easy pickins because I dont have a strong combat profession.

Now even having a little swords has helped but you can't come close to mastering it unless you can not have any novice scout to harvest your own supplies. Our skill points unfortunatly have to be widely spread to be good at our job, unlike most all other professions which are mainly one profession built on just a fraction of a begining level. ie: TKM is just novice brawler and up the unarmed tree then to TKM, same with pistoleer, carbineer, ect.

oh well, that is what I think. I love being a MCM and didn't holo-grind because I didnt want to give it up. I probably won't even though we are nerfed everytime you turn around.

So far its all already been hashed on in the past topics.

Our poisons/disease work well in PvP...but not PvE.

Our ranged and area stims....are hardly needed

The difference between a master and a dabbler.....is very small

We are combat medics....without any defenses to help us survive combat.

Our main job in the DWB and corvetter are "insert combat profession" first and "MIND pool replenisher for a doctor" second.

Our medical field is surpassed by doctors on and off the battlefield.

Our ranged and area stims need medicinal subcomponents crafted by doctors to get the best useage.

Our ranged stims are handicapped due to a error in a crafting modifier or complete oversight.

I agree pretty much with what is being said here. I have been a MCM since Launch, with the exception of the hologrind era. I quickly went back to it, finding changes from what I had rememered.

What ever happened to getting the actual COMBAT POINTS from the use of the COMBAT medicines? "Once upon a time there was this ATST... I never shot at it... but yet I was given COMBAT POINTS." Anyone remember those days? The reason why I bring this is up, is because after the holo grind, I chose to master CM first. Knowing the use of the stims and dots would help out my climb to the elite profession of a marksman skill. Not now. I can solo an NS Initiate or a tad higher mob, and only get a mere 200 carbine xp and a 20 combat point. Yet the mobs are anywhere from 10-24k of ham. Granted I get the medical use points and end up maxing the 80k out in no time. I still thought it was nice to be able to get those points once upon a time.

I am a strong believer in giving us more of the cure states for the battlefield. As said so many times before, we are after all COMBAT Medics. I would feel more useful if this were an attribute I had.. REZ. Heck in RL I work at 911 and can give instructions on saving a life over the phone to someone who isn't even quailified! Not to mention my friends who work on Rescue and EMS, for crying out loud... they trained and REZ very well. The REZ is my biggest and most frustrating concern. Keep the cures, give me REZ if I get anything. I remember the first day I mastered CM.. I ran out and bought a rez pack... lol... boy what a misleading title... COMBAT MEDIC.

But having to rely on Doctors for us to make Uber stims isn't too much of a problem for me. I agree that SWG should remain a community game, but let them rely on us for some of the things they need in return.

The mind stim is a great idea, but with a minimum usage.I don't think they should be able to be used by dabblers. It would make a MCM useful once again to the groups who do go after the Kryats and what not.

Please forgive me if I have ranted or gone astray from topic. Just had this on my mind for some time. I love being MCM, but the resons for that are long gone, but I stay with it, because I am a good one.

i am in this prof to make money(as i guess most of the other people, if not all) and in order for me to make money 2 things must befixed that will increase my profits(at least i think they will..) is:

1. fix barrels so i can charge 25-60k more for my products.

2. the 45min stomch digesting...(TH said it should be 30min in some post) quicker stomch digest -more food eaten.. more food eaten - need to buy more food. buying more food i am getting more money

edit:

another 2 things:

1. remove serial number from subcompenets...(really useless and stressing for no reason at all)

2. if you can implment a way that we can move large number of items at once.. (moving 40 crates from6 factories and dragging them 1 by 1 is not fun at all!)

My biggest issue is right here!!!!
