Thread: Chef wanted schematic
I am a Master Chef on Wanderhome, and I have found a few BEs that will make schematics for me after i bring them the resources. I would drop chef in a second before I would pay 1000cr per item in a schematic to a BE that does 2 seconds of works fabricating the schematic when I supply all resources, like some BEs on my server want me to pay.
I know BEs love brandy to help do the whole DNA sampling thing (I would have loved it when I was doing BE, but it wasn't available at the time), where do you all think the money for the schematic would come from? yes, you guessed it right... the consumer. Brandy expensive now? The prices of brandy would be astronomical if I had to pay millions for just bio components. I dont know if you guys know what goes into making a full run of 1000 items of brandy, but i assure you, to make a quality product, i work all week just to get a run of 40 crates on my vendor by the weekend, and they are gone usually in about 2-3 hours. I personally dont have time to dilly-dally with a BE that refuses to make schematics for me because he wants the profit of actually making the crates himself. I own the factories, I harvest the meat, I harvest the other resources, why should I pay someone Millions because they sit infront of a crafting station and open up the menu to their crafting tool and click a few buttons, and then turn to me and double click their mouse to trade.
I always tip my BE a good amount for the schematic he makes me, not because it takes 2 seconds to bust it out, but because I respect the work he put into mastering his profession, because I've been there. But asking for millions of credits for a few seconds of works is nothing but greed as far as im concerned, and I would stop going to that person in a flash, and I would make sure other chefs and people I know wouldn't make the same mistake of sending him a tell asking for his services either.
Because you are one, lol. It's not so much a matter of respecting or "being nice" to your fellow BE's (although that can be a motivator too), it's a matter of preserving the value of your goods and services. If you are busily giving away free schematics for tissues, next time you try to sell some tissues you might have a big problem. And yea, they'll be repeat customers alright, they just won't pay you much, lol.

In the free-market system of this game, why would we care about our fellow BE's? I definitely agree with not selling that guy a schematic since you had tissues for sale. However, I agree with that b/c holding out makes you more money, not out of any moralistic sense of good for other BE's. If a regular customer placed an order, and I could not fill it (lack of meat or whatever), I would offer them a schematic just to keep them as a regular customer.
Since you do not care about us or our profession, I would just soon you not come here any more and profit from our efforts....
And I sure hope you are not on my server.
ME, ME, ME, ME, ME.....
You are only interested in what is good for you... Well try this angle thatyou have probably not thought of. Price wars hurt all. Selling bugged pets hurts the profession. The CH's could not have a lower respect for us as a profession. It is up to us to change that or we all suffer. Chefs are not going to supply us schematics, weapon smiths arent either. I can not believe you would even ask. When a person is screaming for supply, it drives costs up and supply as a result increases... That is a free economy. to sell schematics is stealing from your fellow BE's for your own greed. And you do it appearing to be the good guy... how self centered can you get?
BE is now a Business Profession, it doesn't take 2 people to make a broad spectrum nutrient, why should I worry about the BE next door when someone is knocking on my door offering me money?

You talk about your lack of ethics in public, you have no shame?

Ethics? This forum is all about helping other BE's, sure, but business is business in the game, and you're not gonna stop a Chef from getting a BE schematic unless you have a union of BE's that refuse to sell schematics to Chef's.. its not gonna happen, so either you take the money, or someone else will, there's nothing unethical about it.
I have from time to time toyed with the notion of a mega Merchant
The idea was to just run factories, buying resources from miners and schematics from crafters.
This is far more like the way modern business works than the rather medieval notion of "crafters".
Also clearly this in an intended part of the game - every hand made item is a prototype which implies that it's only a mock-up for the real commercial business of factory production
Does this hurt small crafters? Yes, clearly it does look at history. How many local fizzy drink makers are there, compared to Coca Cola. And does the MD of Coca Cola have the skills needed to make it in the kitchen? I doubt it very much
Commerce in SWG is essentially about negotiation. There are two main models:
1) The guild model. The hunter/fighter types run around having fun and grinding missions for cash. The crafters keep them buffed & supplied and occasionallly ask for (free) quantities of harvestables or cash donations. Large hunts may be organised to supply needed resources (such as hunting bols & pikets on Dant for herbivore meat). This is actually a pretty uber model as long as internal politics is relatively frictionless. Only a few guilds actually work like this but it is an ideal that some people reach
2) The strangers model. The hunters main interaction with crafters is at the vendor. They only actually feel the need to talk to the crafters when the product is sold out or to haggle or because they have a query. For the crafters, although socialising is fun, the main business is moving resource from the harvester through the factory to product on the vendor. Any unusual stuff that is hard to get (BE tissues, Doc crafted med components, avian meat) needs to be negotiated for and goes to those who are both nice and who pay well
Now in a guild model trading schematics is simply empowering. If you're sharing money, products and resources it really doesnt matter who gets to turn the factory on. Input into this thread from people operating in that model is (if you don't mind me saying so) irrelevant
In the strangers model there are ample opportunities to get the stuff you need but you have to work for it. A frustrated chef, working to get the resources together that BEs on his server haven't got, then asking for the schematic is not unreasonable.
As a BE though I would only agree to do this if
1) there were not other local BEs trying to make a living selling this stuff, ie if the vendors really were empty
2) I had a good ongoing relationship with the chef and I believed that if I wanted at a later dateto make and sell BSNs to the same chef I was doing a schematic for then I could
Back off, think it over, and decide if you really ARE god before you continue to ruin your own reputation.
