A couple of thoughts re XpNsVe's web site (WWW.SWGBIOENGINEER.COM) --

First, the quality of the mounts in the suggested prices is extremely poor. This raises a question I've been thinking about for a while -- is it worth making mounts of high quality? One the one hand, I have to think yes, since mounts can take damage in combat. But is the difference in a Kaadu of 800 vs 1000 HAM worth the significant extra effort and cost to make them?

Second, and relatedly, the 30k flat rate assumes to variation for quality. Again, I can crank out an 800 HAM Kaadu with basically no effort, while the 1000 HAM version is going to require decent DNA and other resources. Surely our pricing should reflect that?

(Actually, on second thought, I'm not sure it's possible to make an 800 HAM Kaadu without really trying.)

I'd be interested in peoples' thoughts on this...

If I have time, I'll be making some higher quality mounts but your right that it isn't worth the effort for the most part. I'll be chraging 3x the original cost.

eg. kaadu; 30k = super kaadu; 90k

eg. gurrek; 50k = super gurrek; 150k

And they do sell. I've got backorders for super gurreks.

Only 90k for a Kaadu? Man, what a bargain. Personally I think I'll charge 1,000,000cr for them. Those puppies will sell like hotcakes.

I will be (and currently am) stocking spats on muh vendor for 30k .. alot of people are buying them and taming them now to pay a CH 2-5k for training later ... which is how it should be IMO

THe CH's will not be able to supply the market by buying the BE kaduus and training them... THey have to be 60 percent grown to tame as a mount. People will have to grow them and then bring them back.

I have told my customers not to tame them yet to hang on until the patch. I thought when they are tamed the option to make them a mount had to be selected. Is this not true?

To me this whole thing just seems so insane. Master BE's using their best dna and meat to try to crank out Kadus and Spatswith an extra 100 HAM or whatever and charging a bazillion credits for it. Oh man, what in the heck has this profession come to?

Your right about this, it does seem insane. The upcharge is a direct reflection of the work that goes into it. I hope they increase experimentation in the future.

I think the noob with the novice BE box is going to be able to charge exactly the same amount as the master BE for mounts, and that is what is going to set the market price on them. The higher the initial price for mounts, the more noobs will step in and drive the price down.

This is only the case with Kaadu because...

Dewback require Clone Engineering I

Carrion Spat require Clone Engineering II

Bol,Brackaset and Falumpaset require Clone Engineering III

So.. Regardless, they will need to dabble BE in four levels if they want to make all mounts and three if they want to make only non-ch mounts.

Yes, I'm aware of the clone requirements to make the various mounts, but the real question is how viable is the market for all mounts except the Kadu, consideringthe reports that theKadu is the swiftest of all mounts and can be made so easily with so little skill? Kinda like how someone with clone 4 can make a dalyrake and a guf drolg, but how cares since a noob Kahmurra is a better pet for a non-CH.

This is all speculation right now, but what I *can* tell you is that I've tried pricing Spats, and Dewbacks, and Kadu at 10k in a busy, high-traffic store for the past week or so, and sales have been abysmal at best. Perhaps that will change when mounts go live, but I'm not holding my breath. I think those hoping to make a huge killing on the upscale mount market are gonna be dissappointed.

My experience is the same as Arthur's. Basically, I'm not willing to make any pet for less than 10k, and they aren't selling at that price.

Intersting that your mounts havent been selling. I have made my mounts and placed them in my moderately visited shop and have been selling, on the average, at least one mount a day. I have also priced them at 10k and placed a little note on the animal that this is a low quality animal and one should seek a Master Bio-Engineer that far out skills me for better quality mounts. I am only 1010 as I am currently working on CH skills.

I do believe that the mounts will be similar to clothes selection to tell you the truth. I for one dont see a Trando TKA running around on a Kaduu because it is faster. If they do, than more than likely they are the l33t dUdez and just want to power game. I for one am going to watch the market for the mount prices and go accordingly. I would love for the BE's of Wanderhome get together so that we can at least try to keep the market in reasonable check. I know that the prices will not only be set by the demand but also by the BE's of the server.

As all this is speculation at the time, I do believe that we as BE's can try to guess as to what we will charge for mounts, but we will not know for certain until it goes live. Until then I as a noob BE will only watch and follow the trends that occur.

I have cloning 3 and sell about pets on the bazaar at AH for between 800 and 1250 credits.

I have tried selling them for more and they will sit there until the time runs out.

No amount of price fixing here will change the age old principle of supply and demand. To those of you that are getting 30k for beasts good luck to you but I hope you are a master and the beast is of high quality as anything other than that is just yard trash (like my stuff) and should be only sold for a few credits.

As to the complaining about how long it takes to sample and create beasts, what a load of bull, i can sample the necessary dna and make 5 Kaadu (low end ones admittedly using all avg quality samples) in less than 15 mins. If I get 6250credits for 15 mins work im very happy. I dont buy resources and if you are buying them and then having to recoup the cost well........ tough...... because you are always going to have people in this profession who are self sufficient and can under cut you.

I wont be looking 30k for a pet until I reach Master and can justify the price. Rip people off and word gets around.

Send 'em to the bazaar in AH if they want a low endbeast for 1250 credits. I'll be commencing an advertising war real soon. What can I do with millions of credits sitting in a bank account, earn interest ? or maybe buy a holocron?

Haaaaaaaaahahahaahahah 30k for a mount. Wow as if the rich aren't rich enough and the poor aren't poor enough that will really help.

Reminds me of a guy I saw today selling a broken ancient lightsaber for 700k, ,I went to the bazaar and bought one for 2000 and gave it to the person he was gonna sell to. You're all con men and you should be ashamed.

Well I think there is a bit of what Greenspan would call 'irrational exuberance' with regard to mounts.

My present understanding of mounts is it will take a very high level CH to train one, and the creature to be mounted must be full grown. So the two main drivers on mount prices in my mind are

1. Professional services of a MCH for training

2. The fact that pets on average must spend 7 days in your datapad growing to adult status.

I have thought about this some, and have come to the conclusion- I will offer clone statues at normal pet prices, and then charge for the services of training any pet to be a mount, and also charge a premium for any pet that I grew in my datapad to adulthood.

So I am thinking the usual clone pricing of the greater of 5000c or 2xHAM, with a surcharge placed on 900+q DNA used in the creature, and a flat 15k fee for sitting in my datapad for 1 week. So a 1k Kaadu would go for 5k on my vendor, or 20k from my datapad, trained as a mount, and a 9k Brackaset would go for 18k on my vendor, or 32k If I had to grow it in my datapad for a week. I would offer to train any clone bought in my shop for free on the mount command, but stuff coming in from who knows where is going to get a flat fee depending on how involved the training is. I presently charge 500c per command on pet training.

What people fail to realize is that clones in statue form will retail for about what babies do...they cant be mounted, and hence any novice will be able to make them or tame them (the NCH versions at least).
