People who want customized low level pets = Unknown market
People that want customized mounts = Unknown market
Pet Stim users. = Not an exclusive market (Medic/Doc stims)
Pet Vitality users. = Not a desired product.
Combat CH types (as opposed to explorer/zookeeper CH types). = They get their own pets
Pet stims are the closest thing we have to a good market. It's hampered a little by Medic/Doc competition and by resource rarity. However, the thing that makes up for this is that pet stims and packs are consumable products.
I guess we'll see how the clone line improvements along with the CH revamp works. However, without getting a global, exclusive market, I don't have a lot of hope.

Mounts belong to creature handlers hands down. Take a mission, tame the babies, get paid for the mission, sell the babies. Its a win win situation for a creature handler. It cracks me up to see a creature handler selling a baby they were already paid to tame.
Worried about datapad space? Why? Just sell the baby and tell the customer to come back in a few days. If they come back, train the animal, if they don't come back, who cares. You got paid already.
Spawning new versions of non-creature handler mounts in the wild just free for the picking does nothing but drive bio-engineers to become creatuer handlers themselves. If you can't beat em' join em'
I'd personally enjoy BE powerups to medical packs, provided we could get a enhancement slot added to meds. People are real nuty about having the "best" equipment... and will pay most anything to get it. people are extra nutty about trying to make te biggest medicine pack ever. Especially if they sell things.
-----------------
What else could BE's feasibly make that could sell?
A captive market may not be possible, but 8+ partial markets may be enough to keep everyone working.
Instead of ranting about what hasn't shown up yet (and it will).
Move on to the next step.
What should be done NEXT?
If this market problem is a big problem, even after cloning is in. Then you all need to start proposing more items you can make to get this fixed.
Screaming clone clone clone all over the boards here isn't helping anyone. it is jsut wasting time and space that could be used constructively to fix even more fundimental problems with BE.
DE's had the same problem... same with chefs... so do soem of the combat professions (to a much lesser extent).
They let themselves be sidetracked on 1 issue, and delayed getting other issues hashed out and looked at. BE's and Chefs ended up needing a total redesign. You needed cloning redone.
Now what? This is a MMOG. There is always more to do.
----------------------
So I put this to you:
As a crafting class... you don't see more market-share in the future, even with cloning.
What can you make to get that to happen?
Start up constructive threads working on new ideas and way to make the game better. Work with other professions, crosspost ideas for items and services.
Work with Talthazar to get this other stuff drafted out and proposed.
Let go of your hate.. for hate leads to the darkside. (sorry... had to)
This is a game, we must always challenge ouselves to have fun (even when things are mssed up).
This is a messge board that represents less then 10% of the players.
We also must challenge ourselves to make the game better for those who do not come here, or come here infrequently.
You are the people who DID NOT QUIT, in the time when it was the darkest. You are at the turning point of this profession.
The question becomes, do you want to make it better, or do you want to rant?
The choice waws always up to you.

Thank for the info Talthazar.
To those worried about the 'when' so much - given the huge volume of people out there that have no clue about the upcoming change of non-CH max CL from 15 to 10, plus the reduction of overall CLs for 90% of dabblers, we are going to see a lot of people wanting to switch from whatever they have to the lower level variants. I am going to make an assumption that the clone line changes, creature level revamp and CH changes are all going to have to be introduced at the same time. Given that, we are going to see solid demand from both CH and non-CH (and, likely, a heck of a lot of new BE jumping on the bandwagon).

Look I really want to get those clone fixes but with respect to mounts its to little to late. By the time we can make these "better" pets the market will be glutted. Most people will already have one or more pets and we already have a problem that no one wants to buy our mounts because they are not rideable day 1. Who is going want to upgrade to a slightly better mount when they have to use up datapad room to do it and once again its not available on day one. As a mount goes the already small difference will be negligable. Sure it has 5% higher HAM, but your probably not using your mount to fight. All that matters is speed and I;m guessing they won't be any faster. Now if you can let us experiment up the run speed of the mount and have it as a displayable attribute on the deed, then your talking. Till then getting the clone fix won't change the fact that BE is once again being beaten at its own game by a combat class that should be its main customer.
I totally disagree, simply because of the nature of human beings, especially game players. Game players want to get the best they can, and are willing to pay for it. Without knowinghow the new clone line will work in detail, it is clear we will be able to mix and max properties to manipulate the end CL of a creature. For a mount, imagine being able to, say, double the HAM or add decent resists at the expense of damage output?
Speed on mounts is, imo, fine as is. They are all fast enough to improve travel without dumping me into a pile of reds too often, and then fast enough to gallop away if I want to avoid said reds. They have said already that mounts are ranked next to vehicles for speed, and that the final speed of vehicles is going to be a matter of game engine limitations. That all said, I wouldn't object to being able to modify speed as well as other attributes, I just don;t think its one of the things that will be possible.
Last point - as both a BE and its 'main customer', as much as I love taming wild creatures, you can bet your house that I am going to be using BE versions of my current pets once I have worked out enough of the details and done some mad-scientist experimentation. I have even worked out an RP scenario of splicing other types of DNA into some of my current pets to 'enhance' them ![]()
Sooty,
First off I don't see how the creature handler nerf helps us to be honest. Creature handlers are convinced wild animals are better than BE animals at any given level. In a lot of cases they are correct. Now there are new animals for them to tame. Will the clones be fixed before the nerf takes place? I'd be genuinely shocked. If they were going to wait I doubt they'd even be discussing a nerf since we have no clue when the clones will be fixed. There's nothing on testcenter. Why stir up a lot of creature handler folks for months before they nerf them?
Secondly, of course you use your engineered animals. They're free LOL.
When will we be able to make mounts a non-Ch can use?
We can make two of them right now, and thats it.
And by the way, I see wild ones very much better then what we can make of any of the mounts.
I have seen giant versions, bright red ones, bright yellow, while we make drab colored ones.
Also none of our stuff has armor for the mounts, yet wild ones do, and they have more restances.
I saw a Bright Red Giant Carrion Spat just yesterday it had Armor 1 and 2500 HAMs, this was while speaking to Tilen in game, and taking 4 hours to make some creatures for someone else.
So anywise, I love how we not not only fail with DNA sampling but no we get the illfated "unable to get a vialble sample"
I suppose the creatures becoming ticked off much less is a pluss, but if they are red, they attack immediately, and Masked Scent does not work.
Also the DNA cap is great becasue now as a MAster I can get only Lame DNA to make things, so my Products are not nearly as good as they where.
Not that any low level creatures compared to the wild ones, but thats besides the point.
Oh well, I give things away to people, and they sometimes tip me anywise, even though I dont ask for money, since I find not many people want our stuff.....
Not that a NOn-CH can use it anywise.
And not like our stuff is that great.
Everyday i get asked for something that I cannot make, or that I cannot do.
Its kind of dis-heartening...but then what can anyone do.
Sooty,
Face it, getting a mount from a BE is a pain in the ass. No question about it. You buy it, then you tame it, then you grow it, then you track down a CH to tame it and make it a mount. Look at all the whining people are doing now of having to wait a few days for the pet to grow. Look at the price difference that people are paying between fully grown and trained mounts vs a baby. Also look at how many Kadu are out there right now as mounts. They have less HAM and damage than Spats, yet they are very popular. You only need to look around now to see what people's behavior will be in the future, and they are not going to be replacing their mounts just because we can make a slightly better one months from now.
