Thread: Armour Macros

GEEZ - of all the things that need to be repaired in this game and they give us an armor time-sink? Who can fathom their priorities?

Just to cast my vote, it won't affect my DNA gathering style cause I'm a wookiee and went so long without armor, I don't even consider it useful. What armorwookiees do have is weak and decays very rapidly, so is a non-issue for me. However I sure hope they don't mess with my macro to hop on my bike and speed away - that is the only life-saving feature I use! Can't even wear but one mask scent tissue - in the shoulder pad - all other wookiee clothing takes synthetic cloth and a mask scent tissue can't be added to that. So even with Jawa beer, my mask scent breaks a lot and I hit the macro tojump onmy bike& speed away!

Thanks for the heads-up Nancy.

Ok, who uses armour macros? Ie a macro to equip your armour in the event of getting aggro?

Currently on test there is now an approx 10 second delay when equiping armour - therefore these macros will no longer work.

How badly will this affect you?

I just asw a post on the Test Center Forum saying the delay is 3 seconds per piece. Can this be confirmed? 3 sec/piece isn't that bad.

How about a 3-second delay ONLY IN COMBAT? Armour equips instantaneosly when not in combat?

I wear a mix of Chitin and Ubese when Im sampling. Wearing an Ubese jacket with Chitin rest, I have a full set of armor that has 65%kinetic for the Chitin pieces, and 74% for the jacket, all with a HAM of 180/190/210 (or really close to that). I wear a workshirt under the jacket that has +17mask scent, and a pair of pants with another +17. If this goes live, it really wont affect me much because I usually wear my armor all the time, and just swap out the pants/chitin legs when I need that little extra mask scent.

For the record, I dont really like a 10s wait per piece of clothing, but I just thought Id share an alternative solution if it does go live.

My pet wookie is the BE and he near wears armor. Got him a set, never really used it. Synsteak works pretty well and is easy to use without a delay. Do that with a set of buffs and you have enough time to run away from anything.

We're not the only ones who this is going to affect negatively, as N'jessi has pointed out - how many people are going to take their armour off now? A bad change for tailors indeed.

I highly doubt this, it's nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction. The only people who would need to worry about the delay are those who might be engaged in combat - namely Overts and people actually out in the field. What I find ludicrous is the idea that it takes no time to put on armor. If that US military personel was in a potential combat situation he'd bloody well be ready for it when it happened or be dead. He would not expect to be able to hold up his hand and ask the enemy to stop firing while he got his gear ready.

My bio engineer never wears armor. My bounty hunter only wears armor, never unequips it. My smuggler/doc is the only one who swaps back and forth frequently so this is going to suck for him, although he doesn't usually do it mid-battle.

Ugh! whos "brilliant" idea was this anyway?

PS. 10 seconds per piece is too long. The 15 seconds applied to pets to equip the whole set is fine. Honestly I don't think you should be allowed to equip armor if your in combat period but we've gone to long as it is for that route to be accepted.

I have to agree with n'jessi, more and more time sinks are being added to the game that are making players scream - anyone seen the abuse going on at the ID tents?
1.5 minutes to put armour on is too much.

As for the US military guy - this is a case of realism vs fun. Though in this case I think the delay is a matter of balance rather than realism.

BTW did I also mention that while you wait for your armour to equip, you're naked?

I think Talthazar's comment comes to the heart of it - if you think you're likely to get attacked, and you have/use armor, you're either likely to be wearing it or too brain-dead to worry about anyway .

I do think it may affect role-players a bit more, (not hard core, always in character RP's, but those who change to clothing for a night in the cantina or on the town, as compared to armor in the field.) who tend to swap gear. It seems doubly odd to have made the exception to be able to swap weapons with a full inventory, but to make a player waste 10 seconds for each piece of armor (9 pieces of composite, not counting a belt or bandolier for example). The timers on the ID commits may currently be a good bit longer than necessary, but they have some measure of a purpose; this one seems devoid of much sense at all.

In the end, it will be trivial; people will wear armor more often in dangerous locations, and add to the already somewhat beligerent look to the game, as compared to the movies in which few pieces of armor were ever displayed, even in many battle scenes. Bounty hunters and Storm Troopers wore armor, the rest wore clothing more suited to living in that living through.

The point that you'll be naked, at least in the spot the armor is to be equipped, may in the end have the biggest effect on this timer's survival than anything else, if the female players in game complain about the obvious consequences of standing around waiting for the armor to be equipped.

If you don't like the wait in useing the macro then just click on the individual pices in your toolbar. I can do that and equip my armor in a matter of seconds that way w/o a macro.

Actually, I have an ID alt on another server that I've been playing since the ID changes and I haven't seen it. For the most part the people I've dealt with seem to like getting their stats changed in 10 minutes over waiting a day or two to have it happen even if the did say the timer was too long. The biggest mistake with the ID revamp imo was confining the stat migrations to 5 locations. If there isn't an Id'er already in the tent, many refuse to pick up and go there when contacted for a change. Certainly understandable if you have to make the trip into town or to another town to do it, but it seems that this is where a lot of the friction is coming from. There needs to be either player placed tents that can go anywhere, driods to perform the function on the tent or stat migrations need to work outside the tent. This bit about wanting it to be easy for players to find ID'ers makes no sense. For one, most of hte people that contacted me for a change didn't even know where the tent was. Secondly most players already knew how to find id'ers using the search function.
