I agree completely! This is probably the biggest reason why I wont play it. The gameplay will have to far outshadow theartwork for me to be interested.

Well I hope you enjoy COH for myself it got really old really fast durring beta, would have cancled my preorder if gamestop had let me as it is have a box sitting here collecting dust just not a fan of NO content. Pretty sad when the best content is creating your character in the first place.

I am not saying there won't be bugs... but I am saying my faith in Blizzard is that it will be free of gameplay bugs that make the game unplayable.

ROFL

And my faith in Blizzard is that is will be complete vaporwear for the next two years so they can remove the gameplay bugs that make the game unplayable; e.g. Starcraft. By that time you'll have 15 more Tolkien ripoff MMOsout there to drool over.

I have a guildmate that is beta testing WoW.

From what he tells me the game sucks.

The graphics are cartoon-like and there isnt the ability to customize your character like there is in SOE... Something about SOE has taken the time to use different art work for the graphics (time intensive) while WoW recycles a lot of the art to same time (quicker).

I'm trying to remember everything he told me... It was a few weeks ago when we had the conversation and it was late at night...

Anyhow, if I think of more of the conversation I'll let yall know but I can tell you afterwards I was like, "blah".

I'm not saying to anyone here that the game wont be fun for some... But I will say, despite all the bugs here, SOE has really raised the bar... Part of the reason why thereare so many bugs in this game is, in a lot of ways,SOE isdoing things other MMORPGs just havent done or were able to do.

Yes, there are areas that need improvement but overall I think a lot of people who have been playing SWG for a few weeks/months are going to feel like they just took a few steps down.

For me, I'll keep an open mind and give it a test run... So is my guildmate... He is not, nor I, against WoW... But again, I think there is perhaps a little too much hype...

Besides, how many more "swords and magic" games can some of us take? The Sci-Fi setting of SWG is a very welcome break from the same ol' same ol' of all the D&D style MMORPGs out there IMHO

Well if anything ever changes and they get around to actually finishing the Bio-engineer revamp that we were promised for what is getting to be almost 9 months ago then I'll become active again. I still drop in from time to time but it just frustrates me as Sony is adding more 'content' while there is still alot of works to be done on professiobns, balancing and things like that. By comparason CoH is blowing them away since everything actually works, the only thing which is currently bugged is the Taskforce missions which are in the process of being repaired. As for it being contentless I have to disagree as there is alot of variety and storylines in the game. Its not something you can play with a single character for like 12 hours straight without getting a little tired but with so many possible power combinations and over 2 billion costure possibilities you can easily make a variety of characters for when you get playing a certain style. It might be a pure combat game but oddly enough its actually 'fun' which is something you don't have very often in recent games. Its not complicated to get into however tactics in combat are essential compared to the usual SWG means of spamming the same special over and over and hoping for the best since its all you can do.

But the bottom line here is when I look at SWG and CoH i see that one still has critical issues with enjoyment and things actually working while the other is extremely solid.

Blizzard has a great trackrecord, even with online games.... They take a lot of time to develop and TEST good software before releasing it. Something that thus far, SOE hasn't done. WoW hasa lot of hype, b/c Blizzard has a big base of loyal customers, that know what to expect. And honestly if Blizzard fails to follow through... they will lose a ton of respect with Hardcore gamers, something they don't want to do.

Having played Diablo2 (on-line) from release, Blizzard will have the same game-play, balance and endless nerfing that SOE has done.

Blizzard nerfed and changed so many things in D2 for "balance" that I simply quit when they did the necro nerf.

Blizzard has history with "on-line games" and it isn't better than SOE's IMO.

Blizzard has done good with their RTS games but don't kid yourself that translates into MMORPG games. Besides, Blizzard has to patch its games just like anyone else, from bugs to balance issues.

good luck tal-n , your posts on this forum have been very helpful . I feel the exact same way as you , i just log in now and then and check the forums till my subscription runs out . Looking for a new mmorpg to come play till WOW comes out . space expansion for SWG doesnt intrest me at all , maybe if jedi changes happened sooner i would have tried that but cant be bothered now . Enjoyed the game alot while i was playing it , thats because i was running a business , always found the combat in this game was crap . I too wish they had fixed things instead of adding more content.

This thread may wind up being deleted, but I'll throw in my two credits.

I feel pretty much the same was as Tal-N.. but even worse, I'm *not* looking forward to the space expansion. I can't play twitch games to save my life, and I'll likely get motion sickness from playing it. I was so very disappointed to read that there will be NO new content added in the form of planets to explore/fight on. I'm so sick to death of the handful we have now. I have zero desire to login, and I'm trying to decide if I care enough to save the piles of "stuff" I have accumulated in my remaining two accounts.

I'm playing CoH now.. I too thought it was the lamest sounding thing I had ever heard of, until I played it. The game is just plain old fun. Login, choose a character (all with radically different playstyles and abilities), find a group (super easy to get one), and go kill stuff. And yeah, the combat takes strategy. I was in a rocking group last night where we wiped twice at the beginning of really hard mission - lost a couple people, grabbed a few more, and went back and kicked ass. We all had to work together as a team to finish it (and no, you can't just spam your "specials" non-stop).No crafting, no resources, no harvesters, maintenance, vendors, BUGS, etc. Compared to CoH, SWG is like a real-life job. I used to joke that I worked harder at my SWG career than my RL one. Sad thing is, it was true.

I haven't decided what to do with SWG.. I figure I'll hang on until the holo-grind goes away, and then see what effect that has on the game. But in the meantime CoH is the perfect summer-time diversion. Who cares if I'm tired of it in a few months - at least I won't have so much "stuff" accumulated that I feel like I can't cancel my account.

and your posts were always worth reading Tal-N, look forward to more if CoH or WoW turns sour.

Tal-N, I am in 100% agreement with you. I waited about 3 years for this game to finally be released, and expecting the space expansion after 6 months with no charge (my main reason for wanting to play the game in first place), as stated by SOE on a number of occasions. Now, after almost year of (what I should have expected after 3 and half years of EQ) nerf after horrendous nerf, the game still has a majority of the same bugs that existed at public release as well as a few new ones thrown in, and SOE keeps holding to their loudest minority rules in ruining class after class.

I started out working toward weaponsmith, then came the Factory XP nerf (many alternate solutions presented and never responded to, actually even reveived denial of knowledge of thread by one who started the thread), so in not wanting to grind crafting, i switched to CH. I have been master CH since (after checking some of my old posts) late september, shortly after the first major nerfs hit the class, as they made me realize it was the same old SOE from EQ and I had better get ahead quick. As a MCH for all this time I'm sure you all know the nerfing I've been through with that class. Then shortly after the "BE Revamp", I decided to take one of my other character slots and build a BE. Since then I have mastered and enjoyed the class greatly, but am still plagued by the same issues (bugs, further nerfing, general SOE BS). I then decided I wanted to get my Jedi slot, and almost as soon as I make the decision, SOE announces they're nerfing the known path as well. Now with yet more recent news, soon as a BE, I will no longer be able to have vendors of my own (that I put in the effort and skill pts to get and have been paying for).

Now as of today, I stopped playing SWG over a month ago when I received a free trial as a former beta tester to return to the game Eve-online. Granted that game still has it's issues and bugs, but they have shown they actually try, and with a much more limited base of income than SOE, I think CCP is doing a hell of a job. The only reason why I didn't continue playing that game once it went live was because I had already been waiting for SWG for 3 years and it was just being released a month or so after beta ended for Eve and I could only afford one MMOG. So now I'm spending my time there, and unless SOE wakes up and smells the player base, they can kiss my monthly payment goodbye, and not expect any further income from me because between what they did to EQ, and how they are completely ruining SWG, I do not see me every playing another game from them.

At this point it looks like I'm out of SOE's "vision" because they keep proving they are clueless. Although I have thoroughly enjoyed games by Blizzard, I don't know if I will be going to WoW as (as others have stated) the cartooniness (new word I think), but knowing Blizzard as being a group who does have a clue, I imagine that game will be pretty dang good. I think I'll stick with Eve for awhile as it is about the closest to what Freelancer was supposed to be (read: Privateer online) as can be found right now, and the game seems to be having some really good things coming for it. With SWG, unless the SE totally rocks and SOE get's their heads out of their asses about the rest of the game, I'm out.

I guess the biggest example I can come up with about why MMOG like SWG are doomed for me, is that they want the same crowd as The Sims. Instead of the "true gamers", they want everybody else. I don't know if that even makes sense. All I can say is that I tried the Sims, and after a highlight of putting a few neighbors in an outhouse and removing the door for a few days, the game totally sucked....yet it has been an incredible "success" with countless expansions and even moved online. Between that and losing companies like Janes Combat Simulations, it seems "true gamers" are becoming more limited every year.

Oh well, now I guess I'm just rambling. One more Jack-n-DrPepper and I'm going to sleep.

Fare the well all

Hey there. Nice first post in the BE forums. Since you don't know Tal-N how do you know he doesn't have friends (do you have friends?). How do you know he's not in a PA?

Now, instead of coming here and replying to a post of someone you don't even know, in a profession you aren't a part of, why don't you take your ignorant self and go back to the Doctor forums and practice having your prostate examined. I'm sure that will be much more fun for yourself than posting here and getting it examined the hard way.

The good part is playing with friends, working together. If you are looking for graphics, gameplay, no bugs, etc you are looking at the wrong type of game. This game is for groups of people. For FRIENDS to play together. it is a massivly multiplayer game you know.

This type of game since it is the most recient generation of game types is bound to have problems, bugs, and dynamic issues caused by such a large organic player base.

Single player games can give you fancy graphics much easier, They can also test them to work out the bugs and test every aspect since they don't have the huge unknown that comes from many human players doing all sorts of unknown things.

I suggest meet some friends, join a guild and start having fun again.

I give em credit for trying to make a game that is that much off-center, but yikes, looks kind of embarrasingly bad. Maybe I'd feel differently if I actually played it but I don't think I'll be spending all that money just to find out.

I'll definitely be giving WOW a try though. I was SO dissappointed that I was not chosen for their early Beta but I guess they're opening up their beta before long.

My son, who gave up SWG because of frustration over the continuous NERFbat being the only manner in which management was able to deal with anything, started playing CoH and Planetside.

Planetside is beyond terrible to me. The control are completely unnatural and the cameras are almost useless. Quake 3 was better than this.

CoH was decent, but quickly ran out of any content that interested me within 6 hours.

However, 3 requests for help produced a CSR in CoH within 5 to 10 minutes, even at 11pm PST at night. I was shocked, stunned and amazed! Not only that, the CSRs knew what they were talking about! They definitely have customer service far beyond SOE.
