Was gonna say we are engineers and not surgeons ^_^
You know.....you said that in jest but it's actually not that bad of an idea.

Some kind of player 'implant' or cyborg tech, requiring interdependence between DEs and IDs.

I can see the mature requests now once this goes live.
N00b: MAKE ME TEH IMPLANT FOR YOU KNOW WHAT
Rasal: Certainly sir. One brain replacement implant coming up...
I like the idea of implants A LOT. And I agree that it's ripe for some really cool interdependancies between a variety of professions. I can see BEs, Doctors, weaponsmiths, master artisans and ID's having a hand in this for sure.

- An ocular implant, to increase your ranged accuracy.
- An adrenal implant to increaseyour burst run duration.
- A communications implant toequip you with a real time uplink to your tracking droids, giving a droid speed bonus.
Nothing over the top, just enough to give you that much needed edge. Advantages of Implants would include the obvious bonuses to the consumer, but it would also give a much needed new source of income to the BE's and DE's.
The wayI see it happening would be similar to the ID tents, only user created. You spend x amount of time in the booth with the BE/Doc (whatever it would be) while theDoc 'Implants' the enhancement. Have a max of3 or so implants per character, kind of like sockets on clothing and armor, make them permanent. Unless you were to change prof's, then you would loose a profession specific implant.
You would havegeneric implants, such as (+ Xto attack bouns),and Profession Specific Implants. And perhaps even have a new class of char personalization, mechanical arms,heads etc...
Performance Enhancing Implants?
I am aBounty Hunter with an alt newb DE. As a bounty hunter I believe that this sort of implimentation could significantly help our severly handicapped combat profession, and add a new levle of character personalization to the game.
Consider if you will;

- A communications implant to equip you with a real time uplink to your tracking droids, giving a droid speed bonus.

I can see no feasable reason why not to impliment this into the game. We have Bio-Engineers, we have Droid Engineers and we have Doctors. And implants have been a part of Star Wars since the beginning (Vader). So why not impliment them in game? I think with our support the DE's might be able to get through to the Devs on this one.
