Thread: BEs dropping like flies?

I don't find the system terribly complex at all. It works relatively straight forward except for CL calculations which only really matters for non CH pets to me. It must be for most though as I see ver few BE pets in use and 80-90% tamed pets still when I'm out sampling.
I don't know.. every tell I get asking if I make pets includes a requested level. Yesterday one of my PA mates said.. can you make me a level 14 pet? My initial thought was that I have no clue how to make a decent level 14 pet (my pets all have been mid-20's and up). My second thought was that by the time I figured out how to makesaid level 14, he could get another skill box in CH and able to use a wild CL 15 one.
I like the idea of having a set recipe for certain levels - maybe I will approach it from that angle. My other thought was to just make a variety of decent pets and post them for sale on my server auction board. Once I figure out what a decent pet *really* is. ![]()
Ri'a
Actually, in the past week or so, I've had two novice BE's /tell me for help and advice. Neither was a holo-BE, they had just heard about the changes and wanted to try it out.
For my part, I've been having a lot of fun with the new system, frustrating as it sometimes is. Last night, I spent several hours trying to make a level 22 carrioon spat with certain stats/abiltiies. At the end of it all, I suddenly realized that-- between searching out the DNA I wanted, and working out the details of the clone-- I had managed to have a full day's worth of fun crafting. It actually felt like a quest. Plus, I gained 10,000 XP without having to make a single micronutrient supplement.
Hehe, well, here's an observation from a MBE who has been a BE since Sept. From Sept-Nov we'd get a few threads every week with pretty much the same title as this one. Only difference was that there were a lot fewer BE's back then, and the BE's who were quitting were frustrated by the fact that this class got no developer attention and the promise of the new cloning system was unfulfilled. Where is it? Where is it? When will we have it? That was issues #1, #2, and #3 on our list (and #'s 4-10 as well, lol).
So what happens? We finally get the new clone system, we see a HUGE influx of "BE for a day" types around the holidays, and nowthe exact same threads that we were getting before are starting up again. Anyone who has been around here a while can see the irony in this. Anyhow, a couple thoughts. 1) It proves that you're never going to make everyone happy. 2) If some of the BE's "drop like flies" that is probably very benefitial to the community at this point to partially offset the big influx we got.
I actually feel like I can't turn around without bumping into another MBEthatI've never seen before.
I'm not interested in giving up the profession yet, though I was ready to pitch my computer after trying to make a few CL 10's this weekend. I think I managed to get four... though I have a sure fire recipe for CL 11. ![]()
I had to spend to many hours chasing down pikets for meat (and getting my butt kicked repeatedly), and having my friends chase down meat for me to give it up any time soon.

I was one of the Sept-Nov 'faithless', and I dropped 4344 BE not only because the profession was about as unplayable as any in the game but also because the process of gaining xp had become completely decoupled from the process of having fun.
Masochist I am, I wanted so badly to be an MBE with the new system (that I frankly thought would never arrive in any form, let alone a playable one) that I just finished grinding my 5100 micronutrients after about 10 days of grueling arthritic hell.
And you know what?
I couldn't be more excited.
I find your comment extremely insulting.
Arthur,
I've been an MBE since before the patch, having mastered the profession in early November. I'm not new to it, and while I certainly felt the prior cloning system was lacking, I at least understood it. The new one is frustrating. Every time I've tried to make a non-CH clone, I've ended up with something in the 11-14 range.
Futher, there the endless parade of tells and emails asking for broken non-CH clones, with 6 billion HAM and infinite resists, coupled with the endless emails and tells for CL 70 kimos similar stats. I eventually started refusing custom orders, and decided that if somebody wants a clone, they can take what I've made available on my vendor -- that's it. If somebody asks for a custom order, I tell them to find another BE. Rude, but given the complexity of the system, and the specificity of the customer requests, I've never been able to make what people want. I just gave up.
Sigh. Sitting here typing this message, yet another tell just came in...
Customers are demanding, and pushy. Impatient. Clueless as to teh work involved. Angry if I don't want to take their commission. New Johnny-come-lately BE's with drive and lack of scrupes are taking people to the cleaners with pet prices, and it seems to me that making a **edit** good clone is a) more work than it's worth and b) less work than what people charge. However, I'd be foolish not to charge the same.
To be honest I only keep the class now because my wife has a master tailor and one of my best friends is a master tailor. And last night my wife told me she was going to pick CH back up again and master it, so I kind of feel obligated to stay and make pets and tissues.
Not really having fun in the class anymore though. I decided to try out DNA sales. Went out with my ranger friend last night, sampling on various planets. After a few hours on Dantooine we found some Frenzied Grauls. As I was sampling the one farthest from the lair (3 samples woo) a party of about 7 people came running through and started blasting the lair. In the group was a guy with a bio-engineer tag. I asked them to stop, of course they wouldn't. So I asked the BE why he was destroying the lair instead of getting the DNA, which is like gold. The idiot said he needed the exp and because FG were too hard to sample because he wasn't a master, the carnivore meat (1000OQ, 870PE, 716FL) was worth more money to him.
What a **edit**ing idiot. And then it hit me. Bioengineer has become a money-making class. People aren't experimenting or treating it with any kind of sense of fun. They are comign to this forum, reading the creature recipes, then behaving like total **edit**tards out in the field, trampling over people and then using the work of others in discovery to color by numbers and take their pets out to sell them for large amounts of money. And naturally since the customer doesn't care what kind of **edit** they buy from the system rewards that kind of person.
It used to be that if I bumped into a nother BE at a lair there would be a gentlemanly exchange of greetings and maybe a brief conversation about the class and taking turns with the mobs, etc. Now it's dog-eat-dog and frankly it is somewhat disappointing.
I have thought about droppign the class every day since about a week after the clonign patch. Master BE since October.
i dunno, but i enjoy BE i find this system for the cloning rather easy for me to understand.
its probably because i started after the patch and got to see it from the begining, and its not that hard since im getting rather used to it.

Ijust find a good recipe I like, stock up on it, and carry the final templates around with me. I can make a pet on the spot in whatever skin/color they want. I don't do non CH as I haven't found a recipe yet that I like.
I sell two models, a CL30-33, and a CL60-63, in any skin of the customers choice for 75k.
That way I know exactly what to go sample and how much, exactly what to combine and experiment, and both recipes make fine pets for a master CH iether pair or single, or a novice CH that can use a CL30.
Other than that I just make some house decorations occasionally for free. I only sell to people who see me using these pets and ask about them.
I don't find the system terribly complex at all. It works relatively straight forward except for CL calculations which only really matters for non CH pets to me. It must be for most though as I see ver few BE pets in use and 80-90% tamed pets still when I'm out sampling.
thats exactly what i do, i do CL 15-19 pets CL 25-30 pets and hanvt gotten any higher ones yet
bolle bol DNA for the CL 15-19 i forgot the CL 25-30 one, but i got it written down somewhere at my house (at school atm)
Mmaughme,
I totally agree about the non-ch pets. To me it's absolutely rediculous that if you put 5 CL 10 dna samples in a blender you come out with either a cripple or a CL 11 creature. That does really need to be fixed. However, bugs, pecularities, and lack of documentation aside, we finally got what we asked for as far as the new clone system and I still believe we are much better for it. Now ask me if I think this profession has much of a future, and that's another story, lol.

ROFL, now that's a hilarious comment. C'mon, surely you can't be serious. For months BE's sold nothing but pet stims. We were all filthy rich and extremely unhappy. BEs that put any effort into it at all were making millions every week. Some were making tens of millions. Do you think any of these folks are suddenly now "all about money"? *rolls eyes*.
Call me crazy, but I actually think BE is probably less that way then any other crafting class (perhaps with the exception of tailor), just because it's one of the only ones that isn't simply about pulling things out of a harvesting and inserting them into a factory. If you honestly think that sampling dna and making creatures is less fun then harvesting and putting things in a factory then I'm seriously wondering why you are here.
