Rare enough to not have been on Starsider since launch.

I believe it is supposed to be one of the rarer materials.

I am very new to the game, I am going for Weaponsmith, am still just an Artisan. My question is, why is it, when I survey for resources, sometimes the titles of the various resources disappear from the list I am search for. I know they are all not there, but sometimes one will disappear and I cant look for it. I happen with an Iron. I was sitting on it for an hour, sampling for the grind, when all of the sudden, I get the "Resouces density is to low to sample" It was at 79%, but I figured maybe there was a shift in resouces. I noticed a few of the AFK Artisans that were macroing stopped too. But the wierd thing was, I could no survey for that metal anymore, that particular Iron was gone from my list.

Why is that?

And, how do I get to look for other things I knowI cant know. Is it in the Survey level-up? When you become Master Artisan?

Thank you in advance for you help.

You must have been sampling during a resource shift.

Resource shifts are intended to occur gradually every 6-8 days. Usually the ones that were there will disappear one by one, and a new one will replace it within a day. This keeps the resources fresh, and allows for not all resource types to exist at the same time.

When you get to weaponsmith, you'll find that shift can be your best friend (when it brings you the one resource you've been waiting a month for), or your worst enemy (when it robs you of that 990/970 metal you've been using).

For me this adds to the fun. Finding resources first can give you the edge you need to get a little place in the market. Or at least, the best quality materials, which can be painstakingly difficult to locate, will make your weapons just that much better than the next guys.

Good luck, and have fun!

Sorry for the bad grammar, I really should check my work before posting. English is my first language, if you can believe it.

I figured it was a shift, but my problem is, the Iron I was sampling had disappeared from the list of resources in my Mineral Survey Device. I could not Survey for it anymore. It just wasn't there anymore. It has happened to me on more then one occasion.

ok, i see the confusion.

"Resource shift" does not mean that the resources shift locations. It means that the resources that exist now go away, and new ones replace them.

You shouldn't be able to survey for that iron anymore, cause it's not there.

you can survey only for things that currently exist and are on your planet somewhere

And when you need a specific type of mineral, go to a planet, and open your survey tool. You will know right away if that specific item exists on the planet. Yay

Is there a list telling us what planets are best for what resources? At least I am assuming that certain planets will tend to be better than others for certain resources. If not, maybe there is a similar list of planets / areas (cities) / resources?

I just can't imagine trying to survey every square kilo of every planet for every resource by myself, but if there has been a cooperative effort amongst players / crafters to compile a list like this can someone let me know? That is if there isn't a dev list already.

Thanks in advance,
