Thread: where are all the ch?

It is true that there has been a mass exodus from CH. They targeted the "dabblers"... (as a side note, I still don't know what the heck is wrong with dabblers... if you want a skill based system, allow peole to mix and match... if you want a level system, have a level system) ... and it worked. Most of the dabblers dumped the profession as fast as they could. Of course this sets up a glut of mid-low level critters floating around. But those of us who are hooked on CH are here to stay. We take the hits and adjust.

There will likely be a few more people turning to CH not that they have unstacked the melee defense. We had a fencer hybrid in our group who used to brag that he could tank anything spamming center of being. Now it is a bit harder to tank that way, so people are looking for some damage mitigation.

I think, however, the bigest market in combat pets is in the Krayt grounds. Krayt hunters burn through pets and are always looking for replacements.

Most of my sales have been for RP. Somebody wanting a Bantha because they have the Tuskan mask, or a mount that is hardier than their old CL10. Or a white Cu Pa, etc. Personally, if when I threw on my Expert BE title at Theed, I practically got mobbed.

Here's an idea, though. You can redeed buildings. You can redeed harvesters, why not redeed pets? I know it would be a difficult system to work. But I would even go for redeeding pets to a deed you cannot use. One you can drop in your house. I have a ton of pets I would like to retire to make room for new ones, but hang onto for sentimental reasons. I came 1 button-click from giving away Scruffles, my first pet, the other day. But I couldn't bring myself to do it. A lot of CH's develop sentimental ties to their pets, and even when they aren't using them anymore, are loath to give them up. More space on datapad = more creature sales. Just a couple stray thoughts.

Mad,

First, take out the TKM, sub in a different combat class, and make the same statement. I'm not knocking it, it's a great template, but it's probably not reflective of most CHs today.

Never!!! You will have to pry TKM from my cold dead toon hand! But I do know where you are coming from. When I went CH I had always had a combat class along with it (Pistoleer, Rifleman) before I settled on Mr. Jackie Chan.

What'syour trick to finding vendors? Put two next to each other and you can't even read em on the OH map. I can find a lair in a few minutes using a mission terminal. I have to go hunting to find a vendor, lol. Okay, every once in a while the /find works, though it often tells me the nearest X is 3800m away when there's one 50m away. A comprehensivedatabase would be a great idea.

I just get hit CTRL-V, go to vendors, look for BE stuff, get on bike and vroom! I am there. I am to lazy to do anything else. Has an aside, I will never be Jedi due to laziness. Sometimes while going on a mission a vendor pops up on the display (CTRL-M) and I walk in to see what the vendor has. That's how I got the BE CL60 Grasslands Slice Hound. I was looking for a BE Narglatch I had seen the day before in a BE vendor I could not remember the name of to save my life. I saw the cute doggy in the vendor and it was love at first sight. But it was basicly an impulse buy, I was just window shopping so to speak. I never try using /find. It never works right for me.

IMO, the bulk of the CHs today are either tamers or group players. The need for the uber tanks just isn't there as much. There does seem to be a new influx of dabblers that see the advantage of having a better pet than a lvl 10. But I'm thinking that market will be lvl 12 to 24 pets.

Add to that the fact that pets decay slowly and in today's game, CH is a credit poor class. And with the more crowded planets, vendors are a pain to find...

You couldn't be more wrong on all your accounts of CH. I've been CH since the start and enjoy it more today than when it started. Mostly because it got those dabblers away from the profession when it was revamped. (you may refer to this as the great nerf) The class was made for a particular type of person, and I happen to be that type. You're obviously not. I'm still called on for particularly nasty battles and my pets long outlast a player with buffs, and are more dependable and responsive than a player.

I love my companions because that's what they are. They take a beating, but that's their job when we're not just out gallivanting around. Also, my pets do not decay because I take care of them well, they just don't die when I'm there controlling them. I've made mistakes of course and we've both paid the price for it, but it turns into a learning experience and the occurrance will be less.

I'm not credit poor. I make a killing, but I don't sell pets. I am a warrior with a killer sidekick. I haven't had to worry about credits since I made MCH, and I've *never* sold a pet. I've given lots away andI train for free, and I mount for free. To survive as a CH you need to change your perspective, that's all.

To those of you who are frustrated with CH, ask me for help, try harder, or please get out of the profession for something you are better at. Enjoy yourself, that's what we're here for.

Well, Being a TKM/DOC on my main, and grinding BE now as my alt ... I gotta say ... CH should never have been nerfed ..

The problem was not CH was too powerful, its that too many news cried nerf, as the whiners do everytime ... its happening now with droids ... etc..

I fought a master CH with 2 rancors ... slaughtered the rancors... a kima BE ... KILLED IT. ... etc etc.

Does it mean nerf my profs now ... NO

It means that if a CH can use a lvl 60 pet ... he can use 2 lvl 60 pets ... a better nerf should have been you can pull two pets and not three at you current taming lvl ....

So far BE is slow... I can usualy master a prof in 2 days... this one ... I need the damn meat and I am done.

Granted, pets do decay slowly or not at all if one is very careful what one fights and how the fight is performed. I don't feel I am a credit poor class. On a starter planet like Tat, I (a solo MCH/TKM) can make 10K a mission when grouped with my pets. On the adventure planets it is more.

I aint rich, but I aint poor either. And vendors are a pain to find. Only a pain in the time it takes me to go to the store and search the vendor. Why SOE does not place a central datbank (database) in the cities to see what is actually at that store is beyond me. It puts my panties in a bunch when I go to a store to buy something only to find "No items listed".

I actually bought a BE pet a week ago. An unusual pet (at least for me) which is why I bought him. A BE CL60 (thought it was a 62, no biggy) Grasslands Slice Hound. I like dogs. I will buy more. But only if they are unusual looking (not everyone and their Mom has one) and they are better then what I can find on my own (which is usually the case). Heck, if you guys could mix body parts of critters together to make a cool looking pet I would marry one of you. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy taming. I enjoy taming bloodthirsty killers. But to have a pet that looks part Merek (legs) and part Hadarack Rock Crusher (upper body) would be great.

heh I am glad I am not the only one who wants twisted pets, personally I would love to be able to make a monkopotamus...imagine the throwing arm of a monkey and the entrails of a hippo...what a ranged attack that would be.

As a MBE/MCH(eventually, don't want to give up player track)/Ranger dabbler I feel less and less inclined to using my CH side, to the point of questioning having CH at all. When you can get marksman 0404/some armor/drugs or food/decent pistol and kill a lair of pikets in less time takes your Rancor\MBE pet\Arachne Whatever\Merek it makes you wonder if CH really is a combat class. It maybe my general distaste for being a cheerleader of combat instead of actually being involved in it but that's how I have been feeling lately.

I think that part of the issue with selling pets is that once a CH buys a pet, it never really wears out. So, selling PetStims (and maybe the stray Vite pak once in a while) makes sense. Not much action on Kettemoor either (even though my CL41 black-n-white Sharnaff is really sweet!). There aren't a whole lot of people attracted to the class right now unless they're hologrinding.

I figure if the devs do the right thing and allow CHs to engage in full-blown mounted combat, develop a point-pool based training/command system (there is a large number of commands, each costing a certain number of training points. Each new box a CH gets earns them points per pet, which they can save or spend on commands. Thus, each creature might have a unique set of skills instead of the same ones over and over again), and create a functional reason for taming baby creatures in the wild, then the profession might become attractive again.

Thanks for noticing Gully.

You're only the fourth person to get the reference.

And in my case, the game wouldn't take "Kokor Hekkus" either...I assume that first name was a little too racy.

And as for yourself, we can only hope that the stars will be your destination...once the space expansion is released.

I think this is the heart of the "problem" - I'm not sure CH has been 'nerfed' - more that other combat classes have been improved to the point that in comparison pets are very, very slow in combat.

Trust me. I have been a MCH/MP since the week after release. We were Uber then but it only lasted a month or so. What made us Uber was not our skills or abilities but every other class was broken. The game was also broken. I mastered MCH/MP in 2 days because as a Novice I could call a Rancor and Snorbles could not climb steep hills. It was all the devs concentrated on. This "exploit" was quickly fixed. The other professions took months and months to even look at. Remember when a probot ruled? They killed the DE profession in one patch. Not because the probot was Uber but because everything else was broken.

Now that those from release have the impression that we are still Uber, we still get nerffed as other classes get fixed. The situation has come full circle. Most professions, I said most lol, are now functional. The CH class is now totally borked. I am a RP guy. I have not called a pet since the patch before last. The "exploit" the devs created made all my pets run for the hills. It took them over two weeks to fix. I learned then that I could do better without them.

Creature handler has been nerffed into uselessness. The only ones playing it now are newbs and PETA people. The reason I have not surrendered the skill is because it is like watching a train wreck. It is interesting and amusing in a way. There is no way to make money. It does not matter to me because I have a ton from selling resources to grinders. Thank you Surveying. lol As alot of you are probably noticing, the skill grind is now REALLY tough. You get more combat XP for most kills than CH XP. You also can not even think about GCW or PVP. So, without RP, there is absolutely zero content.

Yes, I have BE pets. I helped many BE's level back before they were the FOTM. I still dump all my meat, eggs, and fish on them. To the guy who likes weird pets.... The first BE pets I have were made the day of the patch by a friend. Huurton and a Bearded Jax, both AR1 60% kinetic and decent other resists. Both are CL 35 and I do not want to know how long it took her to make them with a brand new, unexplained system. lol I call them FrankenPuppy and FrankenKitty.

Wokka,

I didn't say I was unhappy as a CH, I love it. I don't really give a rat's tail about credits, long as I have enough to have fun playing.

The question is where have all the CHs gone? I was just posing some answers to that. The great nerf got rid of dabblers who were abusing the class. What I see now is dabblers who are now using it to their benefit, which is great. It's good to have players using 6-20 sp in CH and it may lead to a more robust profession later on. The number of MCHs is way lower than what it was, partly due to nerfing and partly due to holocrons and probably partly due to not a whole lot of benefit in being master.

From the BE side, I'm going to spend a lot more time in making lvl 10-24 pets just cause I think that's where the market is. I could be wrong, but hey, it's only a game and I'm having fun.

I have been a MCH for a while now, and I LOVE my BE Rancor. The reason I don't personallybuy much BE pets is (at least on Tarquinas) most ofthe BE's try to WAY over-price pets. I do missions for my money, I'm not rich rich, and can't craft much of anything, so I'm not going to spend 150k+ on a pet that isway below the BErancor that I paid about 60k for. I think that if some ofthe BE's on Tarquinas would re-vamp their pricing, they would sell a lot more. I'm sure it's not everyone overpricing, but a lot of them do.

The only way to save CH and BE isa pet skill base system. I was a Master Tamer in UO. What they do is, your pet get stronger in their skill everytime you fight with them and you can view their skill set to get an idea what to train next. This itself will create an dynamic situation that benifit both CH and BE.

Since the pet in SWG has more skilll option (melee, poison, desease etc). A CH can than train these pet toward their special attack to the cap. And BE can tailor those popular skills set that a customer want and a can than train the pet for his/her customer.

Think of this :

BE make a pet and sold it to a customer, Let said CL 10 and it has special attack like stun. The customer than bring the pet to a CH and request him/her to train her pet in it special attack, aka stun. Before training, the stun level at CL 10 wouls give let say 15%, after fully train, it raise up to 50%on stun and accuracy.

This will subject to wild creature that a CH tame as well.

In this, BE get an option to customise a pet and CH being make more useful.
