I don't expect the 10K HAM CL10 animals to work forever. I'll admit its insanely stupid that a CL10 10K HAM animal is still valid and a CL10 1.5K HAM animal is not. I made a CL10 cu pa using voritor dasher and rancor youths. It has 4K HAMnice kinetic resistand knockdown with a ranged attack. I used to make 2K HAM animals out of scyk and cu pa but those are invalid now. It's ridiculous.

As far as the BE taking so long to make a custom animal I can shead a little light on that. You'll find most BE's, not all, don't make custom pets anymore. I used to before I had a vendor. Now I just make the animals I like to make and if you want to buy one just look at my vendor. If you want something very specific I may or may not make it. I can make gobs of money without having the stress of this amount of HAM with that number of resists and make sure it has these specific specials. You also have to consider there are many more ways for a bio-engineer to make money now. They don't have to rely solely on pet meds or animals. Chefs willbeat paths to our doors if we become a reliable source of tissues for them. Making chef tissues can become a full time job just by itself.

I don't disagree with you Pluto, In large part I agree that creature handlers are leaving but I don't agree with all the reasons you've selected.Bio-engineers aren't driving creature handlers out of the profession. PvP players don't take creature handler anymorebecause TKA or some other combat profession is so much more powerful. The creature handler you see today is typically a PvErole player that enjoys having a team they can control without having to deal with other players. The creature handlers that have left the profession are in most part the jaundiced PvP players that have realized their animals don't rule anymore.

Wokka,

I didn't say I was unhappy as a CH, I love it. I don't really give a rat's tail about credits, long as I have enough to have fun playing.

The question is where have all the CHs gone? I was just posing some answers to that. The great nerf got rid of dabblers who were abusing the class. What I see now is dabblers who are now using it to their benefit, which is great. It's good to have players using 6-20 sp in CH and it may lead to a more robust profession later on. The number of MCHs is way lower than what it was, partly due to nerfing and partly due to holocrons and probably partly due to not a whole lot of benefit in being master.

From the BE side, I'm going to spend a lot more time in making lvl 10-24 pets just cause I think that's where the market is. I could be wrong, but hey, it's only a game and I'm having fun.

My apologies Fan, I misunderstood. And yes, at first sign of the CH changes, I saw the dabblers leave and that was very good news to me. It made me feel like I was visible again. As a CH I looked like just another suit standing in the courthouse.

And I'll have to admit I'm guilty of dropping master. And the biggest reason was "no real benefit for being a master". I keep my CL at 50 because that allows me to call my favorite pets and keep my useful branches of the CH tree. (4/4/1/4)

Recently though, I have noticed many people in my guild I hunt with are totally fascinated with how I handle my pets and my own 2H combat at the same time and provide success and safety so I do not become a liability. Others have been taking up CH and are falling in love with their pets just as I did.

Recently though, I had to report a nice benefit of having multiple pets. Our latest guild outing included one of our darling entertainers who does not do combat and required protection. I assigned one of my GSP's to her via the "friend" command, then I issued a "follow them" and a "guard". She had her own private GSP protector. She never initiated combat but everytime a mob would even aggro her the GSP would step in and wipe the floor with them. She was sad to see the kitty go at the end of the night, but I'm sure he'll be happy to join her again next time. But still, because I maintained CL 50 I was still able to keep a gurreck out for myself that I used via commands independant of the GSP.

And, I just had a vendor set up for my BE pets. They range from 10-40 and hit every possible level in between. I'll find out tonight which ones sell the fastest. I specialize in poison, intimidate and dizzy because I know what a CH likes.

I can still sell pets, though I happen to be in a town where there are a number of CH left. Coronet use to be a zoo with more than 50% of the spamers selling animals. Now you don't see a one out there.

The problem is, something people are missing, is that harvesters got a hug boost. Everyone is on all the planets, so SWGCraft.com is kept up to date. So when there is a shift of great resources everyone mines the hell out of it. This means armor is amazing, weapons are top notch and doctors can buff for 2500 a pop. Not only that, but people can buy enough armor and weapons due to huge supply and lots of money from 25k missions that they can get good slices on everything.

CH was popular when an animal was the only thing that could tank. Now people with the uber templates, full comp and buffs are by far better tanks and they dish out unreal damage. No pet can complete with that. So while CH got nerfed, everything else got far far better.

The bugs are huge. They make pets annoying to work with. Speeders are huge too. Even the fast cat skins don't keep up fast enough to make them worthwhile. In the end, their power is weak and their usability sucks. Therefore they go unused and CH is something to drop, not pick up.

Only the diehard CHs are left. Those that really love animals keep them. The problem is those that really love animals will not delete their pets for anything, so they don't buy new ones. Pet stims sell well and I noticed vitality packs sell well. Still if you make a really nice pet in a popular skin, those will sell well.

Spazz, I was not really blaming BE for any mass exodus. I at that point was merely stating the sour taste in my mouth. I do not yet know what it takes to make a CL35 Graul with 10Kish ham, KD/Dizzy, AR1 and nice kinetic. I will some day soon. Even ifI have to grind it all out then figure it out later.

If the jist of this thread is to figure out where the CH buyers are I think we can point to several things

1) PvP players moved on. (no reason to keep CH if it cant PvP).

2) CL10 pets are roughly equal to CL70, with some variations. There are none that really count on pets for damage. (no reason to keep CH with all things being equal).

3) The validity check frightens me personally. (very little reason to pay good money for something that is unusable in my combos).

4) You have to have BE's willing to specialize pets for CH. (Each CH's secondary profession to PvE will set the agenda for his pets).

5) CH's brokeness is far more damaging than other professions so people leave.

That is just the short list. That leaves us with 4 Dev issues and one BE issue.

I'm still here but I have never bought a pet off of any one else because I'm a BE as well. As for other non BE CH, if they are anything like me the care they put into their petsis incredible. The lowest vitality pet I have is 98 and that was because my computer locked and couldn't adjust for the situation. When in combat I will call back one of my pets when it is low on HAM and let the other carry the battle for a moment while I hit the wounded pet with one of my mighty stims (if one of my city's medics are not on the hunt with us) then send it back in. Works really well. I think the group I hunt with must be the expection because I'd say 1/3rd of us use creatures. Hope this sheds some like on what you are seeing in the BE market. Good Hunting.

That's just it though isn't it? I mean the new creature handlers you see entering the profession are bio-engineers.Obviously a BE isn't going to buy a pet from a BE. They can make animals themselves. If you spend any time on the creature handler forum you'll see many many posts of long time masters dropping the profession.

The latest schedule that pushes out the combat balance to publish 11 at the earliest seems to be the death nail in those master's coffins. Pile that on top of the known bugs that have plauged creature handler for months and still aren't addressed. I can't say I blame those masters for leaving.

To put it simply, sic yourfavorite uber peton a group of mutant rancors and see how long it takes for the animal to kill off the mob. Now watch a TKA do the same thing. The difference is stunningly remarkable.

As I posted earlier, the remaining creature handlers that aren't bio-engineersare happy with PvE only. Many are role players. They may buy a few animals but beyond that point any sales to those creature handlers will be pet meds.

There's a couple good points here. first, yes the TKM's are waaay uber, rediculously so. And they're not the only nose-to-nose combat class, but they got favored for dealing damage. As a 2H swordsman, I can say that when I'm in there with a TKM, I tend to get aggro most of the time and I'm the tank, not them.

And yes, I make my own pets. But then again, before I was BE I tamed all my own pets, excepting one rancor I bought early in my career. From that time, I've now tamed a multitude of rancors on my own. And since half the fun is taming your own creatures, what is there to buy and who will buy creatures? Why would I think that I can sell a pet to someone who can obviously tame one themselves? If they have the skill to use it, they should have the skill to tame it as well. That puts my only market as being the ones that either are too lazy to find/tame their own, or those that don't know where to find them yet. I find that a very small customer base, so that's why primarily I don't sell creatures.

BE creatures are different, they sell because they are mostly unique in their skills and stats.

I think whatever Wokka sprinkles on his corn flakes should be distributed free of charge to all of us MCH's that way when we wake up in the cloning center we can smile and say "Geez wasn't that a fun trip, I sure am glad to be back in the friendly confines of the cloning Building again."

I hunt Krayts, I use my pets, it hurts to see them lose vitality, so I use them less and less. Fact is you want to get swore at a lot out at the Krayt graveyard, pull a pet and see how happy the TKM's are, or the riflemen.

We are not Uber. No discussion. End of Story.

That said I am always on the look out for High Level nasty pets that will bite, claw, poison, disease. CL 65 and above with good HAM nice resists, light armor, bad attitude, and a special or two. I like them in gurrecks and razor cats. I tamed two graul maulers whose soul purpose is to bring me to CL 70 when getting missions, otherwise they sit in the datapad playing tiddlywinks. My cl 65 gurreck can whup any lair of grauls or rancors, and lasts a good while against a krayt, not nearly long enough but longer than you would think, he does very well against Juvenile Krayts and can take down a normal kimogilia.

That said I have a gurrcat growing that will be a nightmare. I have dueled TKM's on these conditions, a) no buffs, b) no heals. They don't do well. So far it is Rhavin (my razor cat) 12 TKM no score. For fun i took on my guildmates droids from the droid invasion, they set their droids against a level 32 BE cat. Result, droids dead Cat licking paws.

I love the high level Pets as their ferocity tends to be such that they won't run, the combat adjustment bug is still here, but today I sicced my pet on a lair of 5 grauls and in about 8 minutes my cat had killed them the worst part was the running so i just stayed in one spot, called the pet back, waited till the grauls were close and attacked again. It was interesting, at the end my cat had lost about a third of it's health. It may have taken longer than that. Meanwhile a TKM came along to his Graul lair and was gone in about 3 minutes after killing the spawn and the lair. Makes you wonder doesn't it.

....and then no matter how hard we get nerfed, we still keep CH because we are still some of the coolest characters on the game.

Geez I hate it when I get off on a rant.

Anyway yeah MCH's are leaving in droves cause the profession is so broke. If BE's are entering good luck, cause like spazzer said BE's aren't going to buy pets from other BE's.
