Thread: Experimentation

The thing is that my base effectiveness was 79% after I experimented, but it shows 4% and I don't know if this is of use to armoursmiths. Should I experiment the integrity to 300+ and really low HAM cost? I don't think the current armour matters much for HAM as it is low-end armour. The next set of armour might, but who knows?

As an Armorsmith it seems the best thing to do is get some good hides with high OQ and SR and put as much exp. points into the base eff. (quality I believe) to get it to 4% anything left over can then be used to lower ham costs. Most AS don't worry as much about Mall or UT. OQ and SR are top priority especially since the wookie armor already has fairly low ham.

A good suggestion would be to hop on over to the armorsmith forums and browse a little bit. When I first became an AS I was blown away by all the mathematical equations players have ciphered out to find the best use of exp. points. Maybe the sticky on AS crafting on the Forum might help you understand more.

It has been a while for me crafting but I think a Great Success will bump your % by 7 points and an amazing success will increase it by 8%

Where can I get any? Im on starsider, and I cant seem to find anyone or anything that drops/wants to sell any, any ideas, what do I do? I got good materials, but without experimentation, uber chefs with 25 max experimentation still got me in a bind....

I bought my apron and all of my tapes (excepting two +1s that were gifts from friends) on the galaxy trade boards. All in about a week, too. Just camp your trade board and start bidding. Oftentimes people will contact you if you're bidding on an item, and they have a similar one - "hey I saw you bidding on a +4 tape, I've got a +3 tape, wanna buy that too?" And so on. The higher point-value the tape, expect to pay several million and up in auctions like that.

The chef apron is definitely the best investment you can make in terms of tapes; on our server they still go for 200-500k, definitely worth it for 5exp/5assembly. They go up for auction frequently, and I know a lot of tailors that take orders on them too for when they pick up schematics and leathers. If you can settle for 10 (+1 experimentation) then an apron and 5 +1s aren't too hard to find. It's the +8s and higher that are tough to get.

I've heard rumors that the area that people camp for the tapes is going to be nerfed soon, so I imagine the price of tapes will be going up in the near future.

You need +10to experimentation skills to add +1 to experimentation to a weapon. The bandolier adds +3, so you need +7 more to become an 11 pt smith. Good luck, its a long road to get all those skill points very quickly unless you got a ton of credits sitting around.

Just a quick one,

interested in how you fine pro-chefs out there do your experimentation. Do you throw all your points into the one bar, seperate them and use 3 at a time, or go one at a time for each point you have available?

Just wondered if there was a way of increasing the chances of getting those very handy amazing sucesses.

Thanks

Talst

I only just made MDE (last night) and started working on a few droids for my own pleaure more than anything. One thing that I did find that I hadn't thought about properly was experimentation points and where I should spend them. I didn;t have the factory runs for advanced R3's (working on those now) do I was playing about with advanced R2 and Advanced Probot chassis. Just what difference do the three experimentation lines make the the finished product? I instinctivly went for overall quality, but would durability or efficiency play any part in determining the final output?

At the moment I still only have 10 experimentation points and was finding there wasn't really much of anything left for upping other stats once one was maximised.

Hi folks!

I'm making an alt artisan ( non combatant ).

Couple of questions:

1) Is being Human for the Artisan Experimentation +10 Bonus a significant advantage? Does this bonus count towards an experimentation skill cap ( if there is such a cap)?

2) Are there SEA's for Artisan Experimentation?

1) it's actually a +15 bonus that you get as Human, and yes, it's HUGE, since with Artisan Experimentation skill tapes you can max out at 140 Artisan Experimentation instead of 125. That means that you can have 14 points to experiment on items instead of 12.

2) yes, see above.

A few details you may want to consider, though:

1) The human bonus only applies to artisan experimentation. You won't get any bonus for items crafted from elite profs like weaponsmith and armorsmith.

2) Most artisan items either can't be experimented, or have only a single experimentation category. This means that 90% of what you can make can be maxed out with 10 experimentation points.

3) The few artisan items that do have multiple experimentation categories are low-level, so they don't have much market. Sure, a human artisan can make better CDEF pistols than a Mon Cal artisan, but most people blow through Marksman skill boxes fast enough that it doesn't really matter. And bone armor made with 14 experimentation points probably won't sell either.

4) That being said, there are a few Artisan-level foods (which have four experimentation categories) with effects not eclipsed by chef-level foods. They are special use stuff (Travel biscuits for +terrain negotiation, Jawa Beer for +mask scent) but they do have a market. A 4x4x human artisan with +25 worth of artisan experimentation skill tapes would be able to make some very high-powered versions of these foods.
