Thread: DNA Sampling
Novice - CL12
DNA 1 - CL 23
DNA 2 - CL 34
DNA 3 - CL 45
DNA 4 - CL 56
Master - CL 75
That cap of 75 for the sampling level is actually for a master BE. There is a different cap for all the DNA Sampling levels up the tree. I don't know what they are tho
I expect it's probably that that you are dealing with there.
We really need to be able to Sample from creatures with a higher CL than 75. If they increased it by just 10 CL (to a max of CL 85), we could go out hunting with our friends and Sample from the mission creatures.

You know what? We were hunting Rancors when I tried to get my sample and I did not even think to look at the lvl. The same goes for the Bols and Pikets. Now that I think about it, I know the Bols/Pikets were lvl 80+.
I feel sheepish...
Is this normal? I've always been interested in BE, and heard that it used to be an epic struggle getting mutant rancor DNA, etc. -- but I didn't expect it to be quite this rough on non-aggro creatures post CU, lol. Am I missing something?
Also, does sampling from mission creatures with different level than natural spawns result in different stats on the DNA?

I'm sitting at 4044 BE, and the game *allows* me to sample CL75 creatures (trying with malklocs as we speak), but my success rate is extremely low. With Kwis (level 65) yesterday, I got 1 sample in about 30 mins of sampling as fast as my mind could regen. A critical failure drawing aggro was *much* more common than a success.

Yes this is very normal, expecially post CU, before CU i could constantly sample rancors for hours withvery little fails and only maybe 1 or 2 aggros and more if i forget about reusing mask scent, but now on aggressive creatures i tend to get aggro'd on average 1 out of 4 samples and fail usually 3 out of 4 samples

ok, im a Master BE with a combat level of 34.........he is my crafter.......well since the CU i cant seem to sample anything 'above' me. I used to be able to sample rancors...and now....well i get chewed up. I tried some level 71 klicks on Yavin and i failed 4 times before i got killed... im a master and i fail 4 times, whats wrong with that
The sampling fails seemed to have increased and not only for the higher CLs. I'm only a combat level 18 but I manage to sample from the CL70-75 range although I do not believe that our success percentage has increased (pre-CU it was a 5% chance of success at CL75 if I'm not mistaken) and I fail more times than I succeed.
I cannot sample certain creatures when out on my own, Baz Nitch for example aggro me instantly, but that doesn't stop me from trying and eventually I'll hit that 5%.
I tried to sample kliks on Yavin last night and got slain and incapped multiple times for my efforts. Got ONE sample in about 3 hours. I was grouped with a level 80 for damage mitigation, etc. They are aggressive (the kliks not my groupies). It was very frustrating. I haven't had so many problems on dathomir and will probably go back there - doesn't seem to be anything special about klik DNA to be honest.
I did however, did get an offer for help from a chivilrous level 80 BH - was very funny. I was sampling a lurking spider and comes up and says:
BH: 'Nice pet'
me: 'thanks but it's not a pet it's wild'
BH: 'how come it's factioned then?'
me: 'oh well they do that when you sample 'em ... look'
BH:'oh ... well it stays factioned for me after you stop (I was trying to show him how it went off and on)'
me:'hmmm...well i'm just hoping it doesn't kill me'
BH: 'ok so that's not a pet?'
me: 'no I'm a BE sampling DNA not a CH'
BH: 'ok.....(pause)'
BH: 'and you're a woman'
me: 'um ... yes'
BH: '(pause) ... so do you want help with sampling?'
me: 'well thanks but it's best done alone actually but thank you very much for your offer'
BH: 'oh ok ... I gotta go kill my mark then ... cya'

*shrug* I guess it's all relative to how / what you're sampling. I find it works against high CL critters that fail a good amount or mid-CL ones that you can get 5+ samples off of. Doing a lot of sampling, like pre-CU MH static spawn, I get the, "You are too tired to sample" message slowing me down the most. I keep both the vanilla sample button and the mind-friendly macro one on the tool bar and play it by ear.
