Thread: DNA Sampling
Never mind. It's still a great technique and i sit down whenever my mind runs low and as i sit there I think about you and your tip to sit down and then I get up again and sample some more. When I'm sampling low level critters i use the sampling macro. It's just that Malkocs walk too much in one step - i always have to run after them waving my needle saying 'come back here!!!!'

me: 'oh well they do that when you sample 'em ... look'
BH: 'oh ... well it stays factioned for me after you stop (I was trying to show him how it went off and on)'
me: 'hmmm...well i'm just hoping it doesn't kill me'
BH: 'ok so that's not a pet?'
me: 'no I'm a BE sampling DNA not a CH'
BH: 'ok.....(pause)'
BH: 'and you're a woman'
me: 'um ... yes'
BH: '(pause) ... so do you want help with sampling?'
me: 'well thanks but it's best done alone actually but thank you very much for your offer'
BH: 'oh ok ... I gotta go kill my mark then ... cya'
wow. I don't know what to say to that.
you did say BE, and not HE, right?
Just a couple tips:
Always always mask scent when sampling DNA and milking creatures.
Try to eat some grub or drink that improves your mind and action bars quickly when sampling.
If your combat rating is low bring a couple friends that are bored to halp you kill any agros.

I was sampling on dath for an hour last night and came up with a rather nice lvl 70 pet, I decided to sample it's DNA in my inventory only to get the message 'you fail to take a sample of DNA' and poof my pet was gone. I was NOT impressed ![]()
The rate of falures at master really needs to be looked at, I really dislike wasting my time in this game.
I slightly remember novice BE ... it's wondering how anyone ever ever gets to master at this rate. It's slow and tedious and our correspondant actually did the whole tree in like 4 hours last time he was testing it and I really don't know how he did it but he knows what he's doing. Read his recommendations on what to sample (they're in the FAQ).
Also, it occurs to me that the following (totally untested) macro might be useful - (here are complete instructions in case anyone doens't know how to set up a macro in SWG):
control- A to open your command browser
click onmacro
click on new macro
type a title, choose an icon, type the following:
/target [your name here];
/pause 0.2;
/ui action cycleTargetOutward;
/pause 0.2;
/follow;
/pause 3;
/sampleDNA;
/pause 1;
/stopfollow;
/pause 0.2;
/sit;
/pause 8;
/stand
/pause 0.2;
then if you want to repeat that endlessly you put on the last line:
/ui action toolbarSlot11
the toolbarSlot11 means you are going to put it into toolbar slot 12 - yes TWELVE - because the toolbar is zero-indexed - they start counting the first key as 00 and so on up to 23 if you have both parts dragged down.
so ... click on OK and then you can drag that one up to your toolbar to the F12 key.
Find a nice spawn of small creatures and go and stand in the middle of them ... you should be ready to act if they aggro tho and it is also useful to put the following command macro'd onto a different function key:
/dump
that is the command that stops all macros. You can just type it at the command line too of course....
Disclaimer: afk-macro'ing is not permitted in SWG - I am not advocating to use this while you are not at the keyboard - I merely supply it as a way to do something else useful while watching the game because let's face it - sitting and sampling small creatures for DNA sampling xp is not terribly useful on the whole ...
You'll need to probably adjust the times and the command in that macro to suit yourself. As I said that's out of my head and totally untested so use at your own risk!!!

How on earth could someone grind the whole DNA branch in like 4 hours?
I'm only CL13, 'cos I'm already master chef, wanting to be Master BE for those BE additives. But while grinding with that macro on packed mobs around Mos Easilly, I get just 74 XP per mob, taking into account that I get a lot of fail attempt also. So I would just get around 2K XP per hour,that's the whole branch in 85 hours. Am I making something wrong here?
You'll get more xp at higher levels of animals that you're sampliing from of course. I get about 900 xp for a level 75 (I think). Not that sampling 75's is time-effective for grinding and you can't sample them unless you are a master BE anyway, but you get the idea... you'll want to move up the DNA tree sampling higher level creatures - see the sticky marked FAQ for guidelines of what level to sample for each box.
Lamm is a whiz - don't know how many BE's he's ground up from the start but I bet it's more than 5. He's our correspondant of course. And ... i don't know how long he reallydid take - i didn't go back to look. The correspondant's blog is gone from the stickies ![]()
